Huggle

[edit]

Dude, you really need to pay more attention when you are using huggle. You reverted someone who was trying to correct a typo on Solstice at least two times. I saw you make a few other iffy edits. Please be more careful. J.delanoygabsadds 03:53, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your attempt

[edit]

On requesting page protection for the Brian Posehn article. I guess no admins were/are watching that page or there not really interested, there probably not fans of that particular person, who knows? IF that article did not require protection then i dont know what does. Luckily its stopped. Cheers Monster Under Your Bed (talk) 05:43, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your subpages

[edit]

Hi, I reverted vandalism on a couple of your subpages that you transclude in your main userpage. Do you want me to semi-protect them (your subpages) so that it is more difficult for vandals to subtly vandalize you? J.delanoygabsadds 00:26, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, the subpages are semi-protected. If you like, look at Special:Prefixindex/User:Hmrox, and if there are any pages that you want something done with, let me know. (I do that sometimes with my own userspace to clean up stuff that I don't use anymore) Cheers! J.delanoygabsadds 03:48, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Calling all active WP:NOVELS members

[edit]
WikiProject Novels Roll Call

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!

Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 18:27, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations

[edit]

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal was to gather feedback to help design a tool that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)

We are particularly interested in feedback from new editors! We want to make sure this tool meets your needs.

Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.

Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.

Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 23:06, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your help-desk question

[edit]

You removed your question before I had a chance to complete a response, so here's my take on the matter, for what it's worth:

I would imagine that your RfA failed not because you aren't smart but because you were, at the time, insufficiently experienced as a Wikipedian. There's nothing to be ashamed of in concentrating on vandalism patrolling and new-page patrolling; both activities are honorable and necessary pursuits that keep the encyclopedia from being degraded into chaos and uselessness (though I admit that they are, if one does them well, not the best way of attracting attention to oneself). It's worthwhile noting, however, that RfA commenters look for a broad knowledge of policy and for experience in a variety of areas of WP editing and discussion. You might try branching out a bit, participating in XfD and policy discussions where you feel you have something to contribute and perhaps trying out some other kinds of gnomish activities (looking for references for articles that need them, geocoding articles on places near where you live, correcting misspellings in random articles, and so forth). If your user page is up to date, you're still pretty young (15 or 16?), and the more you learn in school and the more you vary your WP habits, the more you'll be able to contribute here—and, as a byproduct, the more people will get to know you and respect your contributions. There are a lot of very experienced editors around here who either don't want to become admins or are indifferent to the prospect, satisfying themselves with the knowledge that they're doing the best job they can. Speedy deletion of Userbox2

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Userbox2, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your reasoning on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DASHBot (talk) 00:00, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Query

[edit]

Hi. Quick question. I gave User talk:65.223.207.126 a final warning three days ago. I see you warned the IP for today's latest vandalism. But rather than follow the final warning w/a report, you only warned it -- and a mild low-level warning at that. Was wondering what your thoughts were. I would have thought a report would have been appropriate at this point.--Epeefleche (talk) 05:17, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. My pleasure. Thanks for your help. The admin still blocked him when I reported the violation. But some admins take the (in my view, wrong-headed) view that if there has not been any violation since the last warning, they won't block -- even if they would have blocked, had no after-the-final-warning warning been given. If that makes sense. Here, we had a good admin address it, with a one week block. Thanks again for your help. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 02:39, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Dabomb87 (talk) 23:21, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmrox,

I saw that you reverted an edit from an IP user. Did you mean to leave a note as for why? Why is it that you reverted it? It may be a good idea to do so, especially for an IP user. Shabidoo | Talk 15:53, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Right2bet article on the 18th of October

[edit]

Hello Katy, I believe that you deleted, or flagged up for deletion, an article I wrote a couple of weeks ago (18th October) entitled 'Right2bet'. I fully appreciate that your reason for doing so was that the article sounded excessively promotional, and read like an advert. I am a long term reader of Wikipedia, but only a first time writer. As such, I am keen to comply 100% with Wikipedia's standards, and will totally rewrite the article in order to do so, if necessary.

Would you be so kind as to tell me what specific parts of it were unacceptable, so that I can get rid of them completely and make the article suitable for publication?

Thank you,

Survey

[edit]

Hi Hmrox!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
