Indian Army during World War I

Which 5th Light Infantry are you talking about? Mahratta Light Infantry ?

• I have always seen them listed as the 5th Light Infantry (e.g. Farwell, Armies of the Raj, Hopkirk, Like Hidden Fire, and on http://www.britishempire.co.uk/forces/armyunits/indianinfantry/5thltinf.htm). Apparently, pre 1903 reform, they were the 5th Bengal (Light) Infantry (earlier they had been 5th Bengal Native (Light) Infantry (1861-1885) and originally 2nd Battalion, 21st Bengal Native Infantry(1803 - 1824)). I think the only Mahratta Light Infantry during the First World War were 103, 105, and 110th Maharatta Light Infantry (2 of which were with Force D)--HistorianBell 09:43, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

The article just syas that they went to Africa, was it East Africa? Force B or C? Any sources?

P.S. When you said to East Africa after the mutiny I thought after 1857.

• Sorry was referring to the 5th's mutiny in Singapore. When I get up in the morning, I will put them up. --HistorianBell 11:04, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

• Since the OOB for Force B does not have Bengal 5th Light infantry it seems to be Force C. But there are a lot of editors who will tear up the entry in the name of "original research" . So we will have top find out a source which says Force C.

Wiltshire Regiment

Just FYI - I've split the early history section of the Wiltshire Regiment article out to a new page at 62nd (Wiltshire) Regiment of Foot - this seems more appropriate than having one of the early regiments dealt with in the main article and the other dealt with seperately, and it's the way it's done for most of the other regimental articles.

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. User group for Military Historians

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.
