I'm pretty sure that trying to hypnotize users via one's sig (HighInBC Need help? Just ask.) is a bannable offense... El_C 13:56, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Hey, speaking of violations, that signature of mine you posted has clearly been imported. It should be blue on this page. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 21:54, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I subst'd from earlier like a boss! El_C 22:22, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Well you know a signature is imported lawfully when it's colour is determined by the mod16 of the page id. As is traditional. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 22:46, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey HighInBC, would you mind doing me a favour? Both Anthony Appleyard and I moved Over the Top (Smiley song) at the exact same time, and it's lead to the actual article being G6'd [1]. Anthony doesn't look like he's still around, so would you mind undeleting it please? Thanks, --Jack Frost (talk) 11:59, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The page, a song
It was deleted, oh no.
Can you fix it please?

Am curious how a Wikipedian might contest or dispute a ban once it is in place, given that the WPian can't post. Can you tell me, please? I won't tell you my user name just yet, but will once a dialogue is created between us. You probably may also use my IP address to track me down. 2001:8A0:67CE:CB01:1AB:D528:DC99:AEFF (talk) 12:59, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Just to note, HiBC, your ban notice didn't explain how to appeal. [2]. EEng 18:17, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Reqular blocks can be appealed with the {{unblock}} template. If one cannot edit their talk page the utrs system can be used.
- Bans given by the community must be appealed to the community through the {{unblock}} template or the utrs system. As a last resort they can also be appealed to the arbitration committee at arbcom-enwikimedia.org. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 22:30, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks, HighInBC Thanks, @EEng:, it's nice to know I'm being looked after, if not persecuted (from Latin persecutus, past participle of persequi to follow). 85.240.106.246 (talk) 18:26, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please block User:49.176.12.12 for, well, suspicious disruptive editing (I think)?----Rdp060707|talk 05:11, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't know enough about the subject matter to make a determination based on the handful of diffs I read. Can you help me out on this? Have you communicated about sourcing changes, has this been ignored? I am working on a project outside of Wikipedia right now and only have a bit of time for this so if you can do some of the legwork for me I can help. Otherwise you may have to find another admin. Just seeking your guidance on a quick thing. I saw a user (Jibal was posting on Talk:Bret Weinstein who had a blank talk page. I then saw from the history that they regularly blank it. So I used the system log [4] to check for DS notifications about the relevant sanctions, and thought I had checked and not seen BLP anywhere. So I added a BLP notification. Then I thought, maybe I should check and see if someone had added more than one in a single diff, and it turns out they had [5], added a BLP DSnotice after several others on July 16. So I self-reverted. Totally an honest mistake. The user then added: "People who spam me with notifications by posting bogus warnings and then removing them are banned from this page. Do it again and I will seek sanctions.
"
Feels very similar to the "people I don't like" thing they had on the talk page before: [6] and actually reminds me of a much more mild version of this.
Full disclosure, I don't think this user likes me very much: [7] [8] [9] [10].
Anyway, please advise? Is this a thing a user can do? I can't think of a rule against it. But am I no longer allowed to warn or alert this user? How does that work? What if I have to make an ANI case or something? Promise I'm going to avoid them at all costs, but I do want to know the rules here. Thank you for any help you can provide.--Shibbolethink (♔ ♕) 00:35, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Blanking messages from a user talk page is okay, blanking carries the assumption that you have seen the text being blanked. They cannot prevent someone from posting legitimate notices on their talk page.
- Posting DS alerts more than once per topic per year is a no-no, but honest mistakes happen and I doubt anyone will consider this a major issue if it is not a pattern.
- If someone asks you not to post on their page it is good idea to only go there for important warnings and notices. It is their burden to demonstrate a pattern of harassment if they think you should not be posting there, and that is something you want to avoid supporting. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 02:09, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- HighInBC, will do, and thank you for the helpful advice, as always! Yes I immediately realized my error and corrected it as quickly as I could :( I think now that I've more easily figured out the intricacies of the system log, it very likely will not happen again. sorry for the trouble--Shibbolethink (♔ ♕) 02:12, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
PAUL COTTON did not "Move to Eugene, Oregon" No person from Wikipedia has EVER asked permission to edit articles and Pictures of My Husband. The I formation should be CORRECT -- it is NOT -- How do I inform or update his Wikipedia Page.
This happened before in 2010 when INCORRECT information was posted to Wiki --- that some other Musician managed to get on and change. How do compose a "Personal Life" section etc. etc. Caroline Cotton - wife of PAULCOTTON - would like to have picture changed ... also requested 10 years ago !
paulcottonband@gmail.com OfficialPocoPaul (talk) 08:16, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I have removed the section about him moving to Oregon. Our WP:BLP policy requires that such claims be supported by a reliable source and since I did not see one I removed it.
- To clarify Wikipedia operates independently from the subject's of the articles we write. We don't require permission from the individuals or their family. We do however seek to make sure information is accurate and supported by reliable sources, especially in the cases of living or recently deceased people.
- We typically discourage people closely related to the subject from editing the articles directly due to our conflict of interest policy, however you are welcome to point out errors and submit content at the article's talk page: Talk:Paul Cotton.
- If there are any other factual errors you may contact me here. Please do not make legal threats as the volunteers here are not qualified to deal with making them and will result in the loss of your account. We prefer to deal with things through polite discussion.
- I am sorry for your loss and will keep an eye on the article. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 08:25, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Regarding the picture if you have a picture that can be released to one of our free to use licenses then you can use the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard to put it on Wikipedia. From there you can let me know and I will help add it to the article. Please note that this must be a picture that is not protected by copyright, for Wikipedia to use it it must be available for use by anyone. HighInBC Need help? Hi, sorry, I’m not very familiar with Wikipedia. But I understood you are one of the high rank members. The article Bouvet Island was vandalized and then reverted to an old version. Even sources of the RAND corporation were deleted. I fixed it and made a note on the vandalism protection site. But that article needs protection against anyone well-sourced facts. Here’s the link to the case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:598:A803:E5ED:50DA:F403:474E:D54A (talk) 17:41, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- This is not vandalism. This is a disagreement among editors about what is appropriate content for the article. I suggest you go to the article talk page Talk:Bouvet Island and make your case there. If you cannot gain consensus for your edits then they will not be included in the article. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 22:51, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RJ_Nieto Object404 insists on putting contentious content against the subject (and Rigoberto Tiglao) which violates the neutrality tone of Biography of Living Person. I tried to clean the article from negative tone but he insist on an edit war. His intentions are not good-faith. Object404 (Redacted) seems intent on keeping negative tone of Wikipedia articles about perceived supporters of Duterte government like Nieto, Tiglao, etc. blatantly labeling them "propagandists", fake news peddlers, highlighting the accusations on defamation to make it look like a fact, and so on. Could you semi-protect Talk:Love Jihad please? It's taking a hammering as a result of a Youtube video, request at RFPP is languishing without action. FDW777 (talk) 07:19, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Wow it really is getting a lot of attention. I have given it 3 days semi-protection. Let me know if it resumes once that expires. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 07:23, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you. Not a single post to the conspiracy theory subpage yet... FDW777 (talk) 07:37, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh they never read that. You have to move the requests there when they are made on the regular talk page. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 07:40, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- That seems like extra work the subpage was intended to avoid, if instead of simply rejecting the edit request I've got to remove it from one page, move it to another and reject it. While threads such as Talk:Love Jihad/Archive 3#Love Jihad is not a "conspiracy theory" do at least merit some discussion, you also get ones like Talk:Love Jihad/Archive 3#Semi-protected edit request on 23 March 2021, Talk:Love Jihad/Archive 3#Semi-protected edit request on 2 April 2021 and countless similar ones that bring nothing worth discussing to the table. A solution that allows the removal of non-constructive posts would probably be more helpful, and less time-consuming. FDW777 (talk) 17:47, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It was never meant to remove the need to respond to good faith, though misguided, requests. It was meant to keep the talk page free for actual work. At least at Talk:Muhammad that was the intent. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 03:56, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, just wanted to give you a heads up. The above user, which you denied a UTRS appeal in July, is editing currently under this IP. The user has a history of editing under Google Fiber IPv6 IPs out of Kansas City, while his IPv4 IP (registered to Charter, also out of Kansas City) is blocked. I have alerted the blocking admin to this as well. Just covering all bases. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 02:36, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
