Australian Timber pages
[edit]Hi there, Very new to Wiki, I see your point though, will refine my additions to the very specific speci only. Also, I do actually regret that there are no pictures of the actual timber on these pages, as the australian timbers can be so wild and amazingly figured, and so few people even know what they look like inside. So I think those additions are relative. Sometimes the timber is prettier than the flowers! NeriumKristina 21:45, 5 July 2007
Just looking at it noticed lead is only one para? Gnangarra 13:30, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- That rule shits me; I think the lead is a good size. But yes, you're right - we need to expand it to two or three before taking it for FAC, or we're just asking for people to oppose per WP:LEAD. I'll have a look tomorrow. Hesperian 13:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There I am going through the un rated importance article and a handful of names I havent heard of turn with high rating for Aus law. Gave them a low WA importance then decided to go back an see why law was high and surprise surprise the articles had been csd(in February) and the talk pages with headers were all that was left ;) Gnangarra 10:58, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no foundation position. We worked very hard to get this user to stop posting harassing information on his website. All parties were notified. A month and a half later, one of those admins decides to post this: <http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3AColScott&diff=136496298&oldid=128145952>, thereby stirring up a hornets nest all over again. ColScott responded with antagonism, he's not a friendly person to begin with. H blocked him. Remembering the problems from before, I unblocked him. Everything turned into a huge mess. All the Personal Attacks have been on his user page, and they have all been response to antagonism. This is not a friendly man, and nobody should be posting on his page or blocking him for Personal Attacks that are in response to an already sensitive sitaution. I encourage you to unblock, before the whole mess starts all over again. Cary Bass demandez 12:25, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- There is no turning loose!!! This is not about turning someone loose on the project! He's aware that he's not to involve himself with any users. But his talk page is not exempt from that. If people talk to him he will talk back with them. You can be as disgusted as you want, it won't change the facts. Some people are habitually nasty. I don't want him to contribute or interact in any way. But he is allowed to make corrections to some topics he knows about. You don't know the full story, and my interest is this project and my users. I have asked people not to talk to him on his talk page. They choose to ignore my remarks. Your blocking him has caused additional problems. Cary Bass demandez 12:38, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We've never really edited alongside each other. I saw you a few times as an anon editor, but didn't ever really contribute on the same thing, I think. I'd like to kinda say goodbye. In this whole ColScott crazyness, you seem to be sane about it, and I liked your summary of position on the AN board. I'm ticked right now due to something personal on this whole thing, so I'm not unbiased. Ha, I'd just like to think SOMEONE read this, it got removed after a few seconds, and I understand why. I'm likely inflammatory about it, and for that I'm sorry. Since you don't know me, I'll understad if you just delete this comment from your page and never give it a second thought. I'll still be around on my talk page, and still be editing the project, I'm not leaving altogether. But I am going to contribute where able without using talk pages as much, and certainly with no mind to stuff like WP:ANI, etc. Anyway, if you feel like reading something that got removed from the AN page, give this a look. I do find the idea of my words never being read and only being a "ghost in the machine", kind of sad. I wonder if they would have been left on the page if I was non-anon? Probably not. I want to see how this whole thing turns out, but can't see it being good. This is enough drama anyway: Peace, you seem a good fellow/fellette (sic). Raeft 13:26, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, those Cubs are something else. I understand about you know wanting to say anything more about the current situation, sad as I am about that. I'm on my way to work now. By then, I'll have cooled off, and maybe I'll be grateful the comment was wiped straight off of AN, because maybe by then some rationality will have returned, and the whole foundation will stop using un-announced Office actions to defend harassment junkies. Then again, pigs could also fly. Have a nice day, and if anything interesting happens in this whole discussion, feel free to drop a link to the discussion on my talk page. Not so I can contribute, I know I'd get wiped out/deleted ('m not important enough for my opinions to stick on pages), but just to read. Be well.Raeft 13:42, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 'upright' picture parameter gets around thumb'ed portraits having the same horizontal dimension as a landscape, and thus being overly big. More info here. It's worked to reasonable effect in the 'history' section of Indonesia. Note that without it, the two portrait shaped pics would be as wide as the landscape shot. The alternative of course is the clumsy forced pixel size. Clear as mud? Merbabu 05:08, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(Now that was a long header wasn't it?) There's a debate here about commas versus parentheses for scientific names for organisms (well in this case birds). Sorry for the horrible bolding brainfart there... Circeus 23:37, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I see the point about Banksia, and I sort of agree and disagree because it's "only for stub amd start articles." While I see the point that the article as a whole is then usually inappropriate, I have a visceral annoyance with overlong taxoboxes the stretch beyond the article (although that is more of an irrational editing fiat.) I haven't looked much after other articles because it rapidly gets tiring to do these changes.
- As for the subsp. thing, I agree. I should have looked into it a bit more (although since "subspecies") was given,I still think it was a bit unnecesary. Circeus 00:30, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's a (small, but annoying) issue with letting George's taxonomic arrangement of Dryandra act as a species list for Dryandra: it leaves Dryandra prionotes linked solely from List of Banksia species. Also, you originally omitted to actually link George,s arrangement from Dryandra, I've fixed that. Circeus 04:24, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- "Whose idea was it to start a WikiProject on an entire genus? That is way too broad a scope" LOL You tell me. User:Djlayton4 has been working on cleaning up material related to aster and its segregates, and is not close to seeing the end of it. I don't even dare thinking to actually work on more than one species in Asclepias, or to revisit Pilosella officinarum and P. aurantiaca.
- Anyway, I had just assumed that particular change (separating the list) was completed as intended. As is, the best way to deal with this thorny problem (at least until a complete new classification is properly published) might be to simply mention Dryandra prionotes as a species posterior to George. Is it acceptable for Wikipedia to list it under sect. (now subser., I suppose) Armatae? Circeus 05:12, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I did mean place it under Armatae in George's taxonomic arrangement of Dryandra. Circeus 06:05, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it looks like the burial categories are going to be kept. You should be exceedingly happy that this was a group nomination; I doubt that such a strong consensus would have been built up for keeping these categories had they been nominated individually.
Could you perhaps find a way to manage and maintain the burial categories once the nomination is closed? At the very least, they could be organized by country.
Also, would you mind if I drafted a decent tabulated list for people buried in a cemetery? I just want to demonstrate that lists can work very nicely. Dr. Submillimeter 09:11, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
