Hello Paulina! I still have the same thoughts as last time, but here is a paper to maybe add in: Title: Resolving the puzzle of productive and destructive conflict in culturally heterogeneous workgroups: A communication accommodation theory approach
Author(s): Ayoko, OB; Hartel, CEJ; Callan, VJ.
Also, the application section would probably benefit from being a bulleted list! So much more streamlined that way. Let me know if you have any questions!! --Pjk76 (talk) 03:20, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Hey Paulina! I have to agree with Pam. Your theory is very developed. However, it has an excess of information. It gets redundant because it provides a broad summary in one section of something that will be developed in another. For example, in the introductory section, the last line is not necessary because the same point will be explained later. Something similar happens in the CAT in action section.
The wikipedia page already encompasses many aspects of the theory, however I tried to find some gaps. If you think it can help, I used this book as reference: Miller, Katherine. Communication theories: perspectives, processes, and contexts. 2nd ed. Boston: McGraw-Hill, 2005.
It mentions some things that are missing in your page. For example, Howard Giles and his colleagues started to develop the theory since 1970s. In the section of convergence, over-accomodation and divergence you can also add the concept of maintenance. The book I mentioned before separates the convergence process in different categories. I think this can help to understand better the process of convergence. You can also add the consequences of accommodation in the Components of CAT section.
I hope this can help. Gjd31 (talk) 04:48, 4 November 2013 (UTC)gjd31Gjd31 (talk) 04:48, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Hey Paulina! So your page, Communication Accommodation, seems hugely developed! The main adjustment I might consider making to it would be in the applications section (“in action”). Each item is really interesting but not very well fleshed out, and often have no references/citations behind them. I’m sure a bunch of studies exist on each of those concepts! Also, the police one at the bottom could probably go up here in applications. Also, especially in the CCT world, I’d also wonder about the applications to social media. The librarian chat thing is ok, but social networking is so much wider and more complicated than that!
Ooh, just realized there’s no criticism section! A-ha! :)
Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! Go get em, Paulina! :)Pjk76 (talk) 15:34, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Hey Paulina! My first impression of your page is similar to Gaby and Pam, the editors before used too much space to describe the theory. It will look better if some tedious parts can be removed. For example, I feel the part of "Intergenerational communication" is too long compared with the "Communication accommodation theory in intercultural communications", which looks unbalanced. In the same section, it is better if the levels of subheadings can be further clarified, and the subheadings need to be edited into same form. Secondly, In the section of "Communication accommodation theory among diverse cultural groups", one part, " 'Speak Arabic please!' A case study in communication accommodation", seems not match other parts. It is strange to put this specific case study here. Thirdly, there are some typos on the page, for example: the subtitle "Overaccommodation" needs to be changed into "Over-accommodation"; some parallel subheadings don't have same size font.
