- Dear Kj cheetham,
- Thank you for your kind greeting. It will be fun to work on Wikipedia. Of course, I have a specific goal in mind which is to translate a page about a friend and colleague from the German Wikipedia to the English Wikipedia ... but I understand that I have to practice by doing some service work before submitting it. I was hoping that translating an existing page wouldn't count as a "new" page but I understand the rules. I'm off and running :-)
- Have a great day!
- Cheers,
- Jim HeavyIons (talk) 21:30, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- Dear Jim, translating something from German Wikipedia still counts as new to English Wikipedia I believe! Given it's an article about someone you know, you should also be aware of it being a potential conflict of interest, so you should take a look at WP:COI too. But should be okay if you put it through WP:AFC once you're ready rather than moving it to mainspace yourself. Have fun! -Kj cheetham (talk) 21:40, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
AfC notification: Draft:Howard Wieman has a new comment
[edit]- Dear CNMall41,
- Thank you for your quick reply. I'm having fun and learning a lot about how the Wikipedia world works ... but obviously I have much more to learn.
- The Draft article about Howard Wieman (English) is a nearly word for word translation of the same article that was posted on the German Wikipedia for a number of years. See Howard Wieman – Wikipedia The content of the original German article (not authored by me) was taken mostly from material collected at the American Physics Society and I included that reference in the English draft as Reference 1 (Prize Recipient (aps.org)) .
- Are these sufficiently good references for review? I would be delighted to hear your thoughts. HeavyIons (talk) 01:07, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
