- Re. helpdesk, WP:HD#coley mccbe,
- You wrote, If you are an auto-confirmed user (at least 10 edits/4 days), you can straight away upload your file onto the Commons
- That is not correct; users do not have to be auto-confirmed in order to upload to Commons. Any registered user can upload there.
- You do need to be auto-confirmed to upload to English Wikipedia - but, normally, "free" pictures should be uploaded to Commons - only non-free content has to be uploaded to English Wikipedia itself. Chzz ► 20:33, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Hallows AG (talk) 00:09, 31 July 2011 (UTC)- If you want, you could just edit your response and change it, to just leave it saying, You can straight away upload your file onto the Commons under a free license..
- Unlike other discussion pages, on the helpdesk, it's usually fine to edit your own comment later - to keep it clear for new users.
- But, it's no big deal, it's really not a problem. I just thought I'd tell you, so you know next time; don't worry about it, and please keep helping users! Cheers, Chzz ► 11:51, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Rock-It-Ball
an apology
we have a problem with a user putting in inaccurate and self promotional text on the page. A group of us have been monitoring it and trying to keep on top of it (see pmhildreth's talk page). I went on there today, saw you had done an 'undo' and thought you had undone one of our undos thus bringing it back to the inaccurate self-promotional text. so I undid it commenting that you might have seen the list of edits and undos with the reasoning. I realised immediately that I had got it wrong and put it back as you left it, apologising in the edit - but I wanted specifically to apologise again here and thank you for your help in keeping the page as close to Wikipedia principles as we can.
85.211.85.180 (talk) 10:27, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
thanks for the message on my talk page. I guess I am also guilty of edit-warring as I (along with other members of the Rock-It-Ball community) have constantly been monitoring the page and undoing the edits of the individual who is using the page for self-promotion and point scoring. Does my constant undoing of his posts constitute edit-warring?
I did consult the Wikipedia dispute resolution page and I tried to proceed along those guidelines, including putting the reasons why I was undoing the edits. If I'm out of line, please advise.
Thank you
Thanks for your support. Nasnema Chat 22:56, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Your request for rollback
Hi Hallows AG. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! FASTILY (TALK) 06:06, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive newsletter
Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors
The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their September 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy editing backlog. The drive will begin on September 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on September 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles in the backlog, as we want to copy edit as many of those as possible. Please consider copy editing an article that was tagged in 2010. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". See you at the drive! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters. |

9/11 Truth Movement
The entire page is badly infested with weasel words, POV, and in general unreliable, as below:
"Some of the organizations state that there is evidence that individuals within the United States government may have been either responsible for or knowingly complicit in the September 11 attacks."
Considering that 9/11 Conspiracy theories covers the same grounds and without these problems, redirecting makes more sense than rewriting the entire page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.75.23.11 (talk) 09:12, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

It's not vandalism.
It's using the proper characters. Spaces, when used in Japanese, are not western spaces, they are ideographic fullwidth spaces. That's a distinct unicode character from what appeares when you hit your spacebar. The same applies to other characters.--174.51.209.11 (talk) 23:25, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Obopay
25/08/2011 Hello Hallows, this is regarding the edit @ Obopay. The current entry is outdated, the current CEO is Deepak Chandnani and not Carol Realini. Carol is now the Executive Chairman. Also "Obopay is a service that allows the transfer of money between mobile phones" is incorrect. Obopay also enables transfer of money from a mobile to a bank account as well. Please advise how I can correct this information... thanks

Please explain why you are overwriting my content
If you want to be an admin and are under review, etc., I would think you would know that when you are undoing an editor's work multiple times, a descriptive edit summary and/or talk page message is helpful. [1]. This reflects a real lack of understanding of the collaborative process --CutOffTies (talk) 20:08, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- I am not undoing your work. The user has made an edit that constitutes vandalism in the article Avenue Q. I was merely warning him/her. Hallows AG 20:11, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

- Just to expand on that a little. CutOffTies is correct that you are responsible for edits that you make using semi-automated tools - blaming the tool is not an option. If Huggle blanks a "last warning" when adding a new warning, then Huggle is broken, and you should stop using it (or stop using it in whatever manner you were doing) until it is fixed. Blanking warnings given by other people is not acceptable. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:28, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Reverting your own reversion of a threat
I'm just curious as to your rationale for reverting your reversion of a threat directed against me at David Welch. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 18:54, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
- It was enough of a threat for the project's legal department to become involved, oversight to be used to expunge it from public viewing, and for the IP to be blocked for a week for threats. Something to keep in mind for the future... ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 02:22, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Pepsi
I noticed that you twice reverted an IPs removal of text at Pepsi (here and here) with the summary "unexplained removal of content".
Granted, it would have been nice of the IP to provide an edit summary ... but failing to provide one isn't a reason for automatic reversal of their edits. And, if you look at the text you were restoring each time, it's pretty clear that it was vandalism content to begin with, so the anon was correct in removing it. It might be beneficial to be a little slower on the reverts so as to verify a little more closely what is being reverted. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 20:28, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Sandbox revert
I know that Taco223 was blocked, but in the future can you please avoid reverting and reporting users for edits they make to the sandbox? It seems kind of silly to me that you gave him a warning that encourages him to make test edits in the sandbox, and then when he does, you revert him and call it vandalism. Plus, you reported him before he broke the final warning. Please be more mindful of this in the future. either way (talk) 21:31, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- I have reported him based on his vandalism only actions (as shown here) before I made the the revert on the Sandbox. Isn't placing 'I like tacos' on the sandbox considered as vandalism?--Hallows AG(talk) 21:37, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Definitely not. The only warning/caveat we give to users who use the Sandbox is: Please do not place copyrighted, offensive, or libelous content in the sandboxes. I don't think "I like tacos" falls into any of those. either way (talk) 21:44, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
And now with 72.16.145.61 (talk · contribs) you just gave the IP a level 3 warning and reported him to AIV simultaneously. Please only report users who have broken their final warning. You are reporting users who haven't broken their 3rd warning. either way (talk) 21:48, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- I have reported the user as he/she was using the IP address for promotional purposes (as shown here) Look at the IP's contributions. Wouldn't you say his/her contributions were promotional? Also, take note that vandalism after final warning is not the only grounds for a block.--Hallows AG(talk) 21:53, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yes but to be reported to AIV "The user must be given sufficient recent warnings to stop." I would argue that two warnings is not "sufficient." either way (talk) 21:55, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
Be aware that people who regularly make problematic AIV reports, sometimes end up blocked, as happened at User talk:1966batfan. I suggest slowing down a bit and being a lot more careful with AIV. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:31, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Please do not move WikiProject or Task Force pages based on your personal point of view. The MCR project was previously a stand-alone Wikiproject, but in 2009 it was deemed to be inactive and too small a scope for a stand-alone project and was absorbed into a task force of WP:EMO, the relevant parent project. That you do not think MCR is emo is irrelevant; numerous reliable sources have placed the band within the emo genre, and WikiProject Emo is the most directly relevant parent Wikiproject for this group to be a task force of. The task force page will be moved back to the proper subpage; In the future, please do not make these types of moves without discussing the matter on the relevant talk page and establishing a consensus for the move. --IllaZilla (talk) 00:29, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Archiving
Hi,
I've set up this page for auto-archiving, as discussed.
Normally, I prefer to explain how to do stuff, but in the case of archive set-up, it's easier to just do it for you. The voodoo to make it work is here; the bot should come along within about a day and kick things off. Note the archive box at the top which, currently, will say "no archives yet (create)" - don't create anything, just let the bot do its thing.
It's set to 14 days (14d), you might want to change that. Note that it won't archive very small threads or things with no sigs in (ie no date) - you can cut those yourself and paste 'em into the archive page if you want.
So - that's about it; no action required, just let the bot do its thing, and - if I've done it correctly - all should be well. If it goes wrong, of course, give me a shout. Cheers! Chzz ► 04:59, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi AG you recently reviewed my article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/UNSW_Institute_of_Languages I'm a new contributor to Wikipedia and am hoping you can give me some tips on what sort of sources I should have. The sources I've listed for this article are very similar to those on another published page, Taylors College, which I used as a model to help build my reference lists. You've noted that I need third party sources, but there is some verification there from the Australian GO8 universities, as well as a range of third-party sources external to UNSW and UNSW Global. Hoping you can help me to understand what sort of sources are required and how my sources are different to those on pages that have already been published like the Taylors College page. Any advice/info you have for me would be greatly appreciated. Claire thompson01 (talk) 05:41, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia. Your article needs third-party sources, meaning that the sources should be independent from the subject itself (i.e: Not affiliated with the UNSW Institute of Languages). It is alright to leave the sources already there but third-party sources should be there to establish notability. You can maybe use the links you have provided in the External links section as those qualify as third party sources. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask. :) Also, read WP:VRS and WP:IS to help you to identify third party sources.--Hallows AG (talk) 06:42, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Hey AG - thanks a lot for this, really helpful. I'll check out the recommended readings and I think your suggestion about using the external links as sources could be a good one. Will look into it! Thanks again Claire Claire thompson01 (talk) 06:07, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Page Review/Suggestions
Hello Hallows AG,
I am working on getting my first wiki page approved! In your notes, you stated that I need to provide third party references for the site Colt International. I did provide an overview from Business Week. Are you looking for me to just reference additional sites such as this? Would Manta and links to aviation magazines/publications be sufficient? Finally, how many do I need to cite in order to be credible? Thank you for your help and guidance.

Hi Hallows, Can you provide a little more detail on the items that require more inline citations?
Some of the items under Martial Arts Tournaments / Various achievements are difficult to link to on the internet. Many of the organisations that operate these tournaments do not keep online records of past winners that are easily accessible.
If the inline citations are required for the Charity work referenced, I would be happy to remove this item from the article until I can get a citation from each of the charitable organisations listed which can be added at a later date.
Thanks for reviewing and I look forward to reciving additional guidance around this submission.

Hi Hallows AG -
I use wikipedia all the time, however it's my first time creating an article for it. You sited that my article read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Can you help me? I've looked at other company wiki articles similar to Merkle and modeled my article after them, so if you could please help it would be greatly appreciated.

Jodhpur Flying Club article
I note that you have elected to not approve the article submitted on the Jodhpur Flying Club on grounds of insignificance.
I am the Space Curator at the Canadian Air & Space Museum. The article submitted is derived from NEW research created by noted British aviation historian Peter Vacher (who amongst other things owns the Battle of Britain Hurricane Aircraft) Mr Vacher has spent a dozen years studying the birth of aviation in India. The Jodhpur Flying Club was established by the Prince of Jodhpur (Maharaja Umaid Singh) who was one of the few princes of India who dedicated all of his resources to the Allied War Effort. The Flying Club is now the location of the front-line Indian Air Force Base on the Pakistan front. The story of the club is a fundamental chapter in the story of aviation in India which involves Royalty, the Royal Air Force, Air Racing, a World War, a military base, a front line RAF AND US Army base during the war which housed entire brigades, world famous pilots, one of the wealthiest men in the world and more. The 80th anniversary of the Club just took place in front of members of Parliament and royalty. Here is a link to the story in India about the anniversary. There is a significant amount more to this story that could be added by the hundreds of war veterans who served there. It also very definitely is the history of the site of an Indian Airport (JDH), one of the busiest tourist destinations in India, (which BTW also isn't even listed on Wikipedia despite the fact that dozens of flights a DAY go there from all over India) You already have articles on the city of Jodhpur, the Maharaja of Jodhpur, the royal family of Jodhpur, the Umaid Bhawan Palace (the largest personal residence in the world and which is the HOME of the Flying Club's founder), the fort of Jodhpur and who knows how many other pages? The Flying Club was one of the most important things to ever happen in Jodhpur because it established the city as part of the critical fueling loop for the war effort in the far east. I fail to see how this would not merit an entry in the Encyclopedia since it clearly does NOT fall into the category of articles you should not create, as defined here This is an important snapshot of history in Rajasthan. Just because nothing has been written about it before doesn't make it irrelevant.

Question on Michi article
Hello
I submitted a new article on a martial arts subject and the edits provided a link to your talk page. It was rejected because of the use of a neologism. For the life of me, I can't see what particular instance is being referenced. Could you clarify and suggest a fix. If more references are needed, I will be happy to provide them
John Hill — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jhillksr (talk • contribs) 16:08, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- The article does need more references, that's for sure. Also, note that all claims made in the article that are likely to be challenged must be backed with an inline citation (it's the small numbers after a fact). See WP:REFB for more details.--Hallows AG (talk) 16:24, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Actually, your edits caused me to go back an review the whole piece and I realized that it could be added to an existing article, the one on Dō (Way). The term michi uses the same character and is closely related. With a few minor edits for flow, i have already posted the changes in that one. I am going to submit another new article on narai, another martial arts topic - will you get that one to edit or could it be assigned to anyone?
I've declined the G10 CSD on the above referenced AFC. "Insane Government" is the name of a news talk radio program on BlogTalkRadio, for which Victor Mikhailovsky is the host. While at first glance, void of running an online search, the article certainly appears to be an attack on a living person, but alas is not. See http://www.blogtalkradio.com/insanegovernment for more information. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 16:32, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

I really need help; reviewer has called my proposed entry "an advertisement"
Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Joanoleck
My entry is a biography of a prominent cancer researcher named George Bosl. I have used only statements of fact about him. I used a template from a Wikipedia entry about Dr. Paul Farmer as my model.
And yet the reviewer says it reads like an "advertisement." In no way (and I make my living as a writer and editor, so I know what I'm doing) have I said this guy is the "greatest" and "best" or anything of the like.
I have included references to only half a dozen of his 400 medical journal articles. The rest of the links are third party magazine pieces or journal mention of his work.
There is plenty of stuff on Wikipedia that praises people far more than I've done in my entry.
Can someone please help me?
Joan Oleck (Redacted) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joanoleck (talk • contribs) 17:30, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Hi, Hallows: I recently submitted an entry on Dr. George Bosl, a prominent cancer researcher at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York. You or some other reviewer said it read like "an advertisement." In response I can say that I am a very experienced writer (BusinessWeek, Newsday, freelance for the NY Times) and that I object to this characterization. All statements are statements of fact, and there are a number of links there from third party sources about Dr. Bosl, plus only a fraction (about a dozen) of his journal publications (out of400 in total).
Could you or someone address my response and let me know what I have to do to get this right? I modeled it exactly on an earlier Wikipedia entry about Dr. Paul Farmer.
To my mind, there is nothing objectionable or advertising related here.
Thank you.

ACC request approved
Hi HallowsAG, thank you for interest in the account creation process. I have approved your request, welcome to the team. You may now access the interface here. Before you do so, please read the account creation guide and our username policy thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process. You should also join #wikipedia-en-accounts connect on IRC where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and to get any advice on requests as well as the mailing list. Please note that we have implemented a policy of zero tolerance on mishandled requests, and that failure to assess correctly will result in suspension. I would like to emphasize that it is not a race to complete a request, and each one should be handled diligently and thoroughly. Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day, although you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked "Account Creator Needed" by the bot and "Flagged user needed" on the interface. However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:PERM/ACC. Please keep in mind that the ACC tool is a powerful program, and misuse will result in your access being suspended by a tool administrator. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome! mabdul 13:00, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
attempt to fix article citations
Dear Hallows AG, Thank you so much for helping with my first wiki entry. I've updated the citations in line with your suggested protocols, but some are not showing up in the citations footnote section, even though they appear in text. Rejecting my submission because it allegedly lacks verifiable, third party references is not a defensible position. Ten references are cited within the article and the citation for each of the ten references is listed at the end of the article.

Hi there. I see you moved this from AFC to article space recently. I was just wondering why you didn't either 1) fix the large amount of external links on the page or 2) tag the article for some sort of cleanup...? I've come across a few now which just need a very small amount of attention to bring them up to usual stub standard (this one mentioned needed some external links converting to wiki-links and some minor stuff like moving refs to end-of-line), it would be good if this was completed by you when you "promote" them. If not, at least tag them thusly! Cheers, Nikthestoned 12:03, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

FYI
Hi there, Hallows_AG - I just wanted you to know that an article that you moved into mainspace has been the subject of an office action. You've done nothing wrong, and there's no way that you could have known that article was problematic (that's most of why I'm leaving this - for a record that you did nothing wrong, in case anyone should ask you). In the best judgment of our legal team, that article was problematic under US law. But again, there's no way you could have reasonably known that. :) I also didn't want you to stumble across the OFFICE page and panic, seeing an article that you'd worked on. AFC question about UverseWiki
Hello. You've recently reviewed my article with a conclusion it lacked reliable/3rd party sources - but what kind of source is expected about a program rather than its own documentation? Does this mean that if it's generally unknown to public and has no journal/catalogue entries of its own Wikipedia cannot have an article about it?
I'm not giving any offense, I merely want to know how things are. If such an article is unsuitable I'll simply leave it in my userspace.
Thank you for your attention. Proger_XP (talk) 21:04, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: 41.215.22.218/The Kapker Clan of Marakwet
Hello Hallows AG, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of 41.215.22.218/The Kapker Clan of Marakwet, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: This appears to be a newly-created WP:USERSPACEDRAFT. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 16:02, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello. I got a message saying that I edited an article about Fluticasone furoate. My sincere apologies if I somehow did this. I would not intentionally alter a correct piece of information. That is the opposite of what I want for Wikipedia. I find it an invaluable resource, and a great reference for an incredible amount of information. Again, I am sorry if I inadvertently made changes to an article. Thank you for your diligence in checking for inaccuracies. 24.246.176.82 (talk) 00:48, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Just wondering...
You had denied my article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Diamond_State_Base_Ball_Club) and I'm wondering what needs to be done to improve it for acceptance. Can you state the reasons for denial in terms more understandable to a Wikipedia newbie like myself? Many thanks. Swampud11an (talk) 16:38, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
January 2012
Hello Hallows AG. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know however, regarding D-Day to Berlin, that tagging articles for speedy deletion moments after creation as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3) and articles created through the Article Wizard, is too fast. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), pure vandalism (G3), and copyright violations (G12) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 00:31, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for the notice.--Hallows AG 00:32, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
D-Day to Berlin
I have declined your A1 speedy deletion tag of D-Day to Berlin, because there is enough information to identify that the subject is a film based on D-Day. If you wish to submit it for deletion for some other criteria, such as notability, you are free to do so.--Slon02 (talk) 00:50, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey
The other day, you rejected a submission made by user:Swampud11an. He asked you for an explanation.
You haven't answered him.
Any reason why not? DS (talk) 17:48, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- The article seemed to have been a borderline case regarding the reason for the decline I have supplied. I have now answered his query.--Hallows AG 21:54, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
