Terminus - terminal

[edit]

Why are you changing the word terminus to terminal when terminus is the correct word for a station either at the end of a line or which has regular services that turn and run back to their point of origin? Britmax (talk) 11:40,

Having looked it up, I thought terminal was the correct term: https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-Terminus-and-Terminal 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Write the article first - just an essay

[edit]

I notice you are removing red links in many articles with the edit summary justifying this with WP:WTAF. That is just an essay. As it indicates at the top of that essay, the official guideline is Wikipedia:Red link which says that red links should be retained unless the topic could not merit an article in Wikipedia. Red links trigger people to write new articles and an important part of the growth of Wikipedia. Kerry (talk) 13:22, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'd seen users making similar edits but had missed the subtlety of how to use WTAF correctly. I'll follow the guidelines going forward. Thanks for reaching out. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 14:27, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bow Street

[edit]

You made a recent update to the article on this settlement that is near to Aberystwyth and I wonder if you can also update the latest news on the railway station information that concerns the proposed new station that is further south to the original station site of the closed railway station, as it looks like the new station will open some time early in 2021.

I couldn't find a great deal of info about it. It seems like the ground work will be finished in the next couple of weeks but there isn't an opening date that I could find. I've updated the article. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 14:48, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve The Glass-Blowers

[edit]

Hello, LicenceToCrenellate,

Thank you for creating The Glass-Blowers.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

References given are not giving notability of this novel. What is needed are references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RSplease. Please also see WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources.A much better guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact referred to, that meet these tough criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion. Kindly do the needful. Thank you.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Hello, LicenceToCrenellate,

Thank you for creating Down Where the Moon is Small.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This article has too much plot material. It needs to be condensed into a precis. References are needed - reliable secondary sources - to establish notability.

Congratulations!

[edit]

Hello, LicenceToCrenellate,

I was just deleting HC Lada Togliatti songs and anthems, an article you PROD'd and saw your name in the page history when I was reviewing the page. Since I wasn't familiar with you, I was checking on your account and saw that you had made exactly 10,000 edits as of today. Congratulations on breaking into 5 digits! I also came to your User pages to see if I could find an explanation for your unusual username but, alas, no explanation.

Any way, thank you for your contributions to the project and I hope you are having a pleasant end-of-the-year holiday season. Liz Read! Talk! 21:34, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Liz,
Thank you very much! I didn't think I would ever get to that many edits and then I discovered the long list of linting fixes that need doing.
As to the name - I was visiting a castle a few years back, (possibly Conwy Castle, but I'm not 100%) and was reading about the history of the building of the castle. When the castle was built, the king was concerned about

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Recent_additions/2022/Decemberpeople constructing fortified buildings without his permission and the threat it might pose, so you had to have permission to build crenellated structure, known as a licence to crenellate. For some reason, the idea of being licensed to crenellate tickled me, and I thought it would make a great username some day. LicenceToCrenellate (talk)

Hi, LicenceToCrenellate, I hope you saw the DYK entry for December 23! Best in the New Year!

Hi. Thanks for your new article on Central Hydraulic Tower. I notice that you have added it to this list, when it already on Listed buildings in Wallasey, albeit under a different title, which I have amended. Do you think we should delete it from the Birkenhead list (and it does not have a link in the sources)? Peter I. Vardy (talk) 09:36, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Peter, I'd always assumed that was Birkenhead but you make a good point that it could be Wallasey, I don't actually know where the boundary is. If it is already on the Wallasey list then its probably best it should be removed from the Birkenhead list. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 12:40, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Great Float into Draft:Central Hydraulic Tower. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. Hi,
Thanks for your message. I'd not given any thought to acknowledging the original author of that text. Thanks for updating the article to reflect this, I'll make sure I do so in future. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 00:37, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies - that rv was my mistake. For some reason I thought you were adding, not removing, that paragraph! Danners430 (talk) 12:40, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi LicenceToCrenellate. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Kirkby ski slope

[edit]

A fascinating story! I have been through all the newspapers in the British Newspaper Archive and have found that George Leatherbarrow died in an accident in 1989; I have added a reference to the article accordingly. Unfortunately I can't find any references as to Messrs Tempest or Stevenson, but I did find that Tempest was 65 in 1986, when it was reported that he was banned from driving for 18 months for a drink-driving offence, so it is highly likely he is no longer alive. It is possible that Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council might have some information in its archives, particularly in relation to Tempest. Cheers, Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 21:51, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to do that. It is an interesting story, it almost sounds like an urban legend. I could see that Tempest was listed as director of a company between 1990-95 on the Companies House website, but, as you say, it seems unlikely he's still alive. DYK for Kirkby Ski Slope

[edit]

On 8 July 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kirkby Ski Slope, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that schoolchildren in the town of Kirkby were paid 25 pence an hour to help build Kirkby Ski Slope, even though the slope never opened? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kirkby Ski Slope. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Kirkby Ski Slope), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Mea culpa (an apology)

[edit]

Thanks for your edit on Clontarf (ship) I didn't fully understand your edit when I reverted you, but I then saw and understood why you changed it the way you did after I'd done so. The double nested italics was the issue, and since they are read left to right, the two openers were viewed as a pair, and the two closers after the ship's name were mistaken for a bold+', (and not an empty italics pair) instead of how the original author had intended with bolding both the name and the title. I've simplified that whole thing and made it a single italics pairing after looking up how to do ship names in book titles. Just messaging you so that I can explain myself for the revert, and to thank you for all your other delinting fixes in mainspace. I see we've finally gotten under 50k remaining, no doubt due to your ongoing efforts. Thank you so much! Zinnober9 (talk) 01:51, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
