It performs all of a computer’s mathematical and logical functions—a vital part of a computer processor’s arithmetic logic unit. The majority of a CPU’s work  performed by one or more ALUs, which load data from input registers.

The control unit of the CPU gives instructions to the mathematical logic section, and the ALU records the result in an output registrar. It can carry out basic logical and mathematical procedures.
