[edit]Greg, if you are using the monobook skin, you can copy this:
function RcHideUsers() { var li = document.getElementById( 'n-recentchanges' ); if ( ! li ) return; // sanity check li.appendChild( document.createTextNode( ' ' ) ); var a = document.createElement( 'a' ); a.href = '/w/index.php?title=Special:Recentchanges&hideliu=1&limit=500'; a.appendChild( document.createTextNode( 'Hide' ) ); li.appendChild( a ); } if ( window.addEventListener ) window.addEventListener( 'load', RcHideUsers, false ); else if ( window.attachEvent ) window.attachEvent( 'onload', RcHideUsers );

Images
[edit]Greg, as I've explained to an admin previously, I have had difficulty adding tags. The Nycbuginvasion is GFDL-license by the owner, and the tag should be complete by now. Other permissions are in process for Keston -- the site owner is in Spain running a marathon, but has replied favorably once already -- and his other images are magazines and album covers. Simons is in review with two depts. at WSJ, and the microchip tags have been granted permission from the chip manufacturer, who has already released these photos for use as part of their press kit. Don't have time more details, but the process of tagging has simply been confusing for me, as I have only been active at WP for three weeks. All halloween photos are GFDL licensed by parade director Jeanne Fleming, except for the two by Williams who granted license yesterday. Regards, please be patient. - Greg, I will need additional help here. I am asking Imdaking to help as well. What info is missing, and can one of you please assist me in the spirit of community cooperation. I am trying to do my best and would like assistance. Regards. paul klenk 02:50, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- I appreciate the link, but I've already tried to read that page with no luck. It is useless to a newcomer, sad to say. Left various requests for help at pages and admins, but with little effect. What is missing, where, exactly? What you see is what I think I have. I can't tell you what's missing, because I don't know what's missing -- Imdaking has an idea, I think, and I am waiting for a reply.

I'll have questions for you tomorrow. paul klenk 03:43, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
To greg and imdaking
[edit]Greg, indented below are comments I left at Imda's page. Would you kindly see, if you are in a position to do so, that no image removal takes place on at New York's Village Halloween Parade unless specific notice is given me of what required information is necessary? And, help is provided to me to understand these requirements? It does not help to say delete and "no source," as so much info has been provided. I believe a lot of time has been wasted chatting back and forth and furiously removing and reverting, when all that was needed was assistance and cooperation, rather than gratuitous policing without sufficient explanation and replies. I have gone to great lengths to ask for help with images, which no one seems in a position to offer, and to get carte blanche GFDL licensing from the parade corporation (the image owner) and its director, Jeanne Fleming. She has granted parade access (press passes) to various photographers in exchange for being given rights to the photos. paul klenk 11:22, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- Never mind -- I'd rather do the changes myself. I'm going back to check all original imags, and if they have 1] name of owner, 2] address of Web site, 3] a description and 4] a tag, I am placing it back. No additional requirements have been requested, and by my record, I've made several attempts to ask what they might be. paul klenk 03:54, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- Shuffle.jpg, Twopaperfaces.jpg, Nycbuginvasion.jpg, and Fixingdino.jpg all have the four items above. Before I revert, is anything missing? If so please describe exactly what -- again, "source" doesn't tell me much since I added their authors and pages. paul klenk 03:59, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, the only photo on the Halloween page that is tagged as being listed on images for deletion is Fixingdino. Per the tag, I have listed on its talk page all the information about the image, arguing that it not be deleted. I am now reverting the page again to its previous state, as every photo on it has 1] name of owner, 2] address of Web site, 3] a description and 4] a GFDL license tag, and, when known, 5] the photographer. These photos are copyright of the parade, and its director, Jeanne Fleming, has granted carte blanche GFDL licensing for the photos.
In the interest of efficiency, cooperation, and the spirit of Wikipedia, please refrain from removing the images from the page until addressing a comment to me specifying exactly what necessary or required information is missing. paul klenk 11:22, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

RE: Black Kettle and IP 165.83.196.82
[edit]Greg, 165.83.196.82 added all the material that they took out. If you look at the history of the Black Kettle article, you will see that they have been working on it since yesterday. This IP belongs to the National Park Service. I had not had a chance, and was waiting until they were done adding new information, before I went comprehensively through article and did a copy edit, which I would bet it needs. I have also been trying to help this user on their talk page, User_talk:165.83.196.82, to be a better editor. Following the rules may have scared them off. I was not to excited when they removed all of their additions. I figured I would just look at an old version and pick out any good points that I thought needed too, or could be, added. Check it out and tell me what you think? WikiDon 21:48, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
- Well, the article was only about 10 sentences long before yesterday. Unfortunately, there is not a lot known about Black Kettle, and a good deal of what has been written is from a POV, bias, white-man's take. Just like I warned IP 165.83.196.82, don't let the article get off track into the battles, the 7th Cav, the Southern Cheyenne tribe, etc., which is easy to do. I wish we could jump in the time machine at interview the man. WikiDon 22:20, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
PS I don't know what the heck happened there. !~!

Vandalism on New Zealand general election, 2005 Page
[edit]At 01:38, 18 September 2005 (UTC), you said ‘’this message is regarding the article New Zealand general election, 2005. Please stop removing content from Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism.’’ I was not doing vandalism, I was just adding full break down of results. Then the Wikipedia software told me that the article was to big, so I moved the more detailed results to its own page (New Zealand General Election, 2005, Full Results), and put back the table that was their. 210.54.114.253 01:51, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

scott stapp article
[edit]This is in regards to the rollback of my edit of the Scott Stapp article. I would appreciate not being treated like a complete noob, as I have been using Wikipedia for quite some time, and I have almost 200 edits to my name. I knew what I was doing when I reverted the article. There is a large amount of superfluous biographical material on Scott Stapp in the article. It is obviously removed directly from a book or magazine, probably in violation of copyright. The article's quality suffers because of this. I was attempting to correct the problem by reverting to a previous version without the biographical text.--Alhutch 04:43, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

Lake Tahoe
[edit]I saw that when some jerk deleted the whole article on Tahoe which I wrote 90% of, you were able to put the page back the way it was. Well some other jerk just deleted about 2/3s more of the page, as i was writing it. I already commented on his talk page, but I was wondering if somehow you could restore it like you did before. Hi Greg-
I noticed you posted a message on an anonymous vandal's talk page about vandalism of the Second Amendment page. I have found that that only encourages them to vandalize more, since they are getting attention. (Like a little child, which he/she may very well be). I usually just revert and move on. My advice, take it for what it's worth. Thanks for fixing vandalism, a never ending job here. --Rogerd 22:04, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
- I am not sure I agree with that. In some cases, realising that they are being watched may scare a vandal off, -- RHaworth 08:07, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Edit summaries use
[edit]I don't do it for every RfA. I do try to do it for every RfA for a user with <2000 edits, and do it sometimes for nominees with more. I'm trying to encourage people to use edit summaries, and I think it's slowly working :) The data for you; use of edit summaries is 90% overall, first 500 edits at 69% and last 500 at 97.8%. Doing great! I generate the data in an MS-Excel spreadsheet. It's automated for me after I copy the data. I just click a button. But, it's not a script tool I can put online. I think Kate's tool could be modified to include the capability though. --Durin 05:07, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
Blocking of User:66.26.83.157
[edit]Not to second guess your judgement, but I noticed you blocked User:66.26.83.157 for 48 hours for vandalism. Both of his edits go George W. Bush seemed like a newbie test rather than malicious vandalism to me, and he even reverted his own test at Enemy of God. He has been warned on his talk page, and I think your 48 hour block was a bit overboard for a simple newbie test. The newbies of today are the worthwhile contributors of tomorrow, and I think we are scaring them off by taking such a harsh line on blocking. Again, this is just my opinion, you're the admin and if you feel differently then that is your decision. -Greg Asche (talk) 21:06, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
- While I am always one who tries to assume good WP:FAITH whenever possible, the last two edits by this IP address were a dead giveaway that the edits were malintended, and not mere tests. [1] [2] "He was arrested for driving under the influence|being a lsalsd" was not something I interpreted as a mistake. As you may be aware, the George W. Bush is the most vandalised article on Wikipedia, with approximately 90% of all the edits towards that article being vandalism-related. Also note that each and every section (not just the header) of the George W. Bush article contains the following text: "Anyone who vandalizes the page may be blocked for 24 hours or more without further warning." There is simply no excuse for the actions of this particular editor. Hall Monitor 21:16, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit]You might be a liitle strict with this user, explain that "This notice is needed so other users will not repeatly cite you for your potental vandalism and know that the matter has already been delt with." This is just my view, but freezeing someones talk page makes it hard for other users to raise this users warning messages if 66.214.251.126 continues trolling.
