Question for WikiDan61
[edit]Hello,
I am currently working on the page [[1]] and I noticed that you left me a comment about using a personal interview as a source. The page is being created for my drum teacher, Mr. Jimmy Johnson. He is very old, and he lives a relatively private life here in Stamford, CT. Thus, when I went over to his house to conduct an interview for researching for this web page, he did not allow me to record anything, and so my information is based on all of the notes that I took during our Q&A session together. Is there any way that I can continue to use this as a source, although it is not published on the web? I can have him notarize it if necessary, or do whatever else may be required in order to adequately verify that the information I have obtained is accurate. In the mean time, I am uploading various photos of documents I took while at his house, as ways to provide sources for some of the information.
Thank you for your help,
GrafikMusic
- No, you cannot use an unpublished, unrecorded personal interview that you conducted with your drum teacher. The whole point of referencing Wikipedia articles is to allow other editors to verify the article's content, and there is simply no way for other editors to use your interview notes to verify the article's content. In general, personal interviews are not considered reliable sources because subjects can and will say anything they like about themselves. We rely more commonly on sources that have been published in reputable newspapers, magazines, or larger websites where an editorial policy is in place. Similarly, Johnson's own resume is not really a useable source, because, again, people can and will say anything they like about themselves, especially on a resume whose sole purpose is to "sell" the individual. I'm afraid your article is going to need much better sources in order to be published. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:48, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
