AB vs BA

[edit]

Hello the the term "Bachelor of arts" and its abbreviation "BA" are more common. Please refrain from changing that in articles (unless you have a good reason to do so). Thanks. –Daveout(talk) 13:49, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The College of Arts and Sciences grants only one degree (no matter the student’s major): the A.B. (or B.A.). A.B. is the abbreviation of the Latin name for the degree, “artium baccalarius,” or translated into English, B.A., “Bachelor of Arts.”

I think it is more accurate, as this is the actual degree awarded, and because I've seen this done for many other alumni from other A.B schools on wikipedia. Goobagoo (talk) 04:10, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also I realize you weren't disputing the fact but rather pointing out that AB is more common. But I thought it would be more accurate. Goobagoo (talk) 04:11, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

August 2024

Information icon Hi Goobagoo! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. You've been admonished about changing BA to AB on other pages; doing this is not a "minor edit" and it has been reverted. BBQboffingrill me 01:27, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

hello! How is the meaning of the article changed though? Good to know of the specific definition–thanks. But you should note that Cornell grants AB degrees–not BA degrees. BA works, but it's not the degree he was granted. Goobagoo (talk) 04:00, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The WP:COMMONNAME for the degree he received is the BA on the English Wikipedia. You're welcome to start a thread on the talk page of the article to try to get consensus for AB, but as your edit has become "a subject of dispute" more than once, it is not a "minor edit". BBQboffingrill me 14:08, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok will do that. I think it’s silly because ab and ba are two separate languages. And they don’t translate to the same thing. So you’re mistranslating Goobagoo (talk) 18:04, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
