OER inquiry
Hi Go Phightins!, I'm sending you this message because you're one of about 300 users who have recently edited an article in the umbrella category of open educational resources (OER) (or open education). In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. Regardless of whether you've taken the WIKISOO course yourself - and/or never even heard the term OER before - we'd be extremely grateful for your participation in this brief, anonymous survey before 27 April. No personal data is being collected. If you have any ideas or questions, please get in touch. My talk page awaits. Thanks for your support! - Sara FB (talk) 20:41, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
FA congratulations
Just a quick note to congratulate you on the promotion of Jim Thome to FA status recently. If you would like to see this (or any other FA) appear as "Today's featured article" soon, please nominate it at the requests page; if you'd like to see an FA on a particular date in the next year or so, please add it to the "pending" list. In the absence of a request, the article may end up being picked at any time (although with 1,300 articles in Category:Featured articles that have not appeared on the main page at present, there's no telling how long – or short! – the wait might be).
You (and your talk-page stalkers) may also be interested to hear that there have been some changes at the TFA requests page recently. Nominators no longer need to calculate how many "points" an article has, the instructions have been simplified, and there's a new nomination system using templates based on those used for DYK suggestions. Please consider nominating another article, or commenting on an existing nomination, and leaving some feedback on your experience. If you'd got any TFA-related questions or problems, please let me know. Thanks, BencherliteTalk 06:37, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Bencherlite. I am trying to come up with an anniversary for a date-specific nomination, but don't want to wait until 2016, which would be the 25th anniversary of his Major League Baseball debut. I will keep thinking. Thanks for the instructions, and happy editing! Go Phightins! 10:39, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- How about the 25th anniversary of him being drafted? He was drafted in '89, so 1989+25=2014. ZappaOMati 14:26, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- I thought about that, ZappaOMati, but can't seem to figure out what day the draft was in June 1989. Go Phightins! 22:47, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- 10th anniversary of his 400th home run on June 14, 2004? (Though I guess noting the anniversary of his 600th home run would be more suitable.) isaacl (talk) 22:58, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Not a bad thought. Go Phightins! 00:53, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

This weeks Eddy
Chuckle! This weeks nominaTOR, User:Jim Carter, or is on pins and needles, waiting for MelanieN to get the Award. He has even gone to her talk page and told her to expect a surprise. I have warned him to be patient but I can understand his excitement. If there is a problem, let me know. I don't want to disappoint the young lad. TRA!```Buster Seven Talk 05:40, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Haha. Awarded, so that should take care of that. She is a great editor. Go Phightins! 12:11, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yep. I was very much excited :p because I was waiting for about a month. Thank you Philghtins and Buster7 :) Jim Carter (talk) 12:48, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
problem
In spite of changing the template, the change is not showing up at the WER project home page or the Eddy home page. Any ideas? ```Buster Seven Talk 20:13, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Buster7: As previously discussed, you can try forcing the server to refresh its cache of any page by adding "?action=purge" to the end of the URL for the page. I have visited the appropriate URLs for these two pages in order to force them to refresh, and they have the correct infobox now. isaacl (talk) 20:35, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Pages to edit
Hi, I know you warned me a couple times for vicious editing on Baseball Mountain and just to give you a heads up (if it's ok with you) that I put my name down as the editor for Max Scherzer's page because I did some checking on it and made a lot of edits on it and yeah! -Swagbot27613 (talk) 22:04, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 April newsletter
Round 3 of the 2014 WikiCup has just begun; 32 competitors remain. Pool G's Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Round 2's highest scorer, with a large number of featured picture credits. In March/April, he restored star charts from Urania's Mirror, lithographs of various warships (such as SMS Gefion) and assorted other historical media. Second overall was Pool E's Godot13 (submissions), whose featured list Silver certificate (United States) contains dozens of scans of banknotes recently promoted to featured picture status. Third was Pool G's ChrisGualtieri (submissions) who has produced a large number of good articles, many, including Falkner Island, on Connecticut-related topics. Other successful participants included Cliftonian (submissions), who saw three articles (including the top-importance Ian Smith) through featured article candidacies, and Caponer (submissions), who saw three lists (including the beautifully-illustrated list of plantations in West Virginia) through featured list candidacies. High-importance good articles promoted this round include narwhal from Reid, iain james (submissions), tiger from Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and The Lion King from Igordebraga (submissions). We also saw our first featured topic points of the competition, awarded to Czar (submissions) and Red Phoenix (submissions) for their work on the Sega Genesis topic. No points have been claimed so far for good topics or featured portals.
192 was our lowest qualifying score, again showing that this WikiCup is the most competitive ever. In previous years, 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) or 100 (2010) secured a place in Round 3. Pool H was the strongest performer, with all but one of its members advancing, while only the two highest scorers in Pools G and F advanced. At the end of June, 16 users will advance into the semi-finals. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Looks like someone did beat you to it by an hour about to make the page-but I put that one as a redirect. Wgolf (talk) 22:00, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Wgolf, and thanks for that. I looked, but didn't find an article; it didn't occur to me to check anti-MOS capitalization :-) ... I am heading out now, but will check later to see what if anything can be integrated from that article into the new one. Thanks for the update! Go Phightins! 22:05, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
