(Since the only thing that was here in the past were "removed warning" notices after being mis-reverted by ClueBot, I'm blanking my page. I HOPE that's acceptable--if not...well, I'm still fairly new to the policies and what-not.)

Category question

I have added a reply to Wikipedia:Help desk#Category question. The category should definitely be removed. If you are uncomfortable doing it or contacting the user then I can do it. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:25, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

I have removed all 6 categories from the user subpage.[1] Yes, categories are added to an article by editing the article and not the category. This is the most practical for several reasons. But this case shows an impractical and not uncommon consequence: When somebody copies an article to userpace then the categories are also copied. See more about categories at Help:Category. Screwing around with userboxen, part 1

This user knows not to use "impact" when she means "to have an effect on", and wishes you did too.

Oh, this is FUN!

WOW!‎This user is absolutely busting her buttons with pride, having successfully created her first userbox.

That wasn't what I intended...

How did THAT happen?

Dogs, fleas, etc

Hello Gladys:

I came to this page to say I much appreciated the dogs and fleas analogy in your comments in the RFC. The RFC things are very serious. Some humour is a relief.

I notice your userboxes are misbehaving in the same way mine did when I swiped it from someone else.

I found a way to cure that. You can see it here ---> User talk:Wanderer57/subpage

It is basically just putting in spacers after each box.

The trick is that blank lines won't work as spacers. If you include other characters, you can get the boxes to stay away from each other. (I used periods, but I think any character will work.)

I'm sure this is not the best way, but it works.

Cheers, Wanderer57 (talk) 04:46, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

PS After writing this, I realize that the arrangement of userboxes you have is 800 times more interesting than the usual neat boring stacks of userboxes I see on lots of pages.

Hi Gladys:
There is indeed a better way to keep the userboxes apart. It was pointed out to me when I used my method once too often. You can see it here ---> User talk:Wanderer57/subpage Don't know why it works, but it does. Cheers, Wanderer57 (talk) 02:27, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Invitation to a dogfight (dress optional)

Hi Gladys:

Recalling your input in a previous RFC (the bit about the dogs and the fleas especially), I wonder if you have time to look at another.

It's mostly the same dogs, just on different sides of the alley.

It is here: Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Whig 3‎

Best wishes, Wanderer57 (talk) 04:23, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for looking at it. You quickly picked up on this point: "I'm pretty sure EVERYBODY'S wrong in this case, to some degree"
If you change your mind, I expect the dogs will still be there tomorrow.
Cheers, Wanderer57 (talk) 05:32, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, can you please explain why you labelled this edit [2] as vandalism? Thanks! --NeilN talkcontribs 01:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining. Are you saying Hefty Zoo Pals should not be there? I went to the Arthur PBS home page and they're listed as a sponsor. --NeilN talkcontribs 01:32, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Do you have a link to the page you're seeing on PBSKids? I'm looking at the Parents and Teachers section, and all I see re: funding is at the very bottom of the page:[3] But knowing what I know of the PBSKids website, I wouldn't be stunned to find one piece of info in one place, something different on another page. Off topic, what the heck are "Hefty Zoo Pals" anyway? Cartoon trash-bags? Obese stuffed animals? I'd Google it, but I am very nearly afraid of what, under that name, I might find on the Internet :) Gladys J Cortez 01:40, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Sure, the Arthur home page: [4]. Zoo Pals is right beside Chuck E. Cheese. It looks like they produce plastic tableware for kids. --NeilN talkcontribs 01:46, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Well shut my mouth. :) Huh....who'da thought. I hereby admit to being totally, completely, 100% wrong on this one. Off to the Arthur talk page I go, to eat a healthy helping of crow. Thanks for pointing it out!!!!Gladys J Cortez 01:55, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

AfD on TV network slogans

Thnks for the message, Gladys. Actually, I'm using the term "bundle" in a different way than WP:BUNDLE, which refers to the process for nominating multiple related pages for deletion. I'm proposing that each slogan doesn't merit its own article; rather, they shoul dbe assembled into a common article addressing all slogans for the articular network. Cheers, Majoreditor (talk) 03:52, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Gsnguy

Just to bring you up to speed, I suspect the guy who's been doing all those network slogan articles under ACMEMan may actually be Gsnguy. I'm not an admin but in October 2006 he went on a spree where he added incorrect slogans to about 75 TV station articles. I reverted every edit and he ended up with an indef block because he didn't apologize and threatened to add more false slogans under some misguided notion that we count even the worst edits towards him becoming an admin. He came back with a vengance this morning and when I reverted his edits under accounts named Gsnguy2 and Gsnguy3, he used profanity to attack my vandal reversions and sock accusations. I've started discussion about his revival on WT:TVS and you're welcome to add any input that you need to about your dealings with him and his other accounts. Not ready to add a sock tag like all of his obvious accounts, but take note of similarities in the edits of the socks and those of the slogan article writer. Thanks :)!. Nate (chatter) 13:35, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about all of the trouble you went through last night with him. I swear, the one night I go to bed early he decides to go full-tilt with harassment. I don't know if Gsnguy did this with you, but he attempted a password change on my account by using the password forget feature, which is useless to him because the change (which didn't go through) only goes to my unlisted email address. Suffice to say this guy beats Mmbabies for harassment and his socks are tiring me out. Thanks for doing the reports on him in my absence and hopefully we'll soon have him (and the "WikiJudges") off our backs. Nate (chatter) 22:01, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
I think submitting that IP clinched it, I just couldn't stand by and see him initiate another night of vandalism upon us. Great job on the Checkuser, I'm impressed by your organization of everything :). Nate (chatter) 01:43, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, didn't see a template or the check user results...should start doing that from now on. Rgoodermote  22:20, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
I had a feeling he was trying it on you too, what a maroon! I'm glad that it seems he's been contained for now and hopefully your AfDs will go through uncontested; I mean really, network image campaigns?! Imagine what he would've done with Kids' WB, Nick and Fox Kids...or worse, G4, he could've gone on forever!! I think Proud as a Peacock is pretty much the only one of value because of its horrible cheesiness that should be kept, otherwise all I remember of those slogans was the cheesy songs that went with them (and have never left my head).
BTW, his insults were so juvenille. Punching me in the belly, eating or going to the bathroom on the both of us? I'm sure you heard worse when you were teaching. If he's going to call us names and tease us, put some fire and bluster into it :-P! Nate (chatter) 00:27, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

User:Danieljuravsky

There are several editors that make strange and vandalistic edit to various Barney articles. As far as I can remember not one of them ever replies to anything. They get blocked, don't complain and then continue with the same actions that got them blocked. Danieljuravsky is odder than most, look at this set of edits. Nothing blockable there as he could have been just trying to see if there were articles to link to. Take a look at Wikipedia:Long term abuse#Disney/Barney vandal. Somewhere I saw an edit from a person claiming to be the sister of one of them who said it was their you brother who is autistic. Who knows. I just revert, block the IP's as necessary and Danieljuravsky once in a while too. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 19:25, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome

You're welcome. It seems the static IP (work) is connected to NIH, and that DIMES HQ listing seems to be of some importance. Wonder how they might like hearing they've got someone misusing their network? Daniel Case (talk) 05:52, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

You have been granted with the rollback permission on the basis of your recent effort on dealing with vandalism. The rollback is a revert tool which can lessens the strains that normal javascripts such as twinkle put on the Wikipedia servers. You will find that you will revert faster through the rollback than through the normal reversion tools such as javascripts and the undo feature, because the rollback feature does not require fetching the data from the page history and then sending article data back to the Wikipedia server as the javascript requires, therefore you could save time especially when reverting very large articles such as the George W. Bush page. To use it, simply click the link which should look like [rollback] (which should appear unbolded if you have twinkle installed) on the lastest diff page. The rollback link will also appear on the history page beside the edit summary of the lastest edit. For more information, you may refer to this page, alternatively, you may also find this tutorial on rollback helpful.Yamamoto Ichiro 会話 21:33, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Dates

According to Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Dates the comma should not be between the month and year. Obviously that would not include quoted work. However, I just realised that it does not say if the comma should or should not be there in the example you gave (April 6 1992). Most dates are Wikilinked, and because of the way I preferences are set, I always see linked dates as 6 April 1992 which is why I removed them. So when I see that date it's correct as per the MOS but it may not be correct if you see them the other way round. Ah, I just logged out so I could see what dates look like and tried this, [[April 6]], [[1992]] - [[April 6]] [[1992]] - [[6 April]], [[1992]] - [[6 April]] [[1992]]. The first two both give April 6, 1992, while the second two both give 6 April 1992. So I guess I have been wasting my time. Glad you brought that up. Thanks. Besides the fact that my 2 year old son friggin loves Caillou (and I hate it), it seemed like the right thing to do to keep the article clean from unsourced material. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 20:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, either way, let me know. I've looked through your contribs (I'm not a stalker, promise!), and I think you'd make a great admin. Let me know if/when you're interested and I'd be glad to nominate you! Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 20:19, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Good job keeping cool in this debate. Although I couldn't stand the character, I don't agree with any of those cites that person tried to put in. If I remember the show (which I haven't seen since the first voice of Caillou died tragically), the examples of his 'bad behavior' were always dealt with appropriately, along with his attitude. I just think of parents who complain about these shows like those who whine about Barney and Boobah and the Teletubbies; it's up to them to make the choice of what their kids watch in the first place, so if they introduce the kid to the show and they end up hating it themselves, they have not much reason to complain (at least about the lessons; if they want to go on and on about Barney I don't mind). Kind of like any parent who puts the blame on media if they decide to throw their kid in front of Catscratch and anything on Jetix without considering the consequences.

I also agree with Keeper, you should definitely consider becoming an admin. Your good humor and zeal for keeping articles neutral is something I see as nothing but a positive (especially in the GSNGuy situation) :). Nate (chatter) 23:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

A Speech of Apology

This is the father of Gsnguy (Mr. GSNII),

I just want to inform you guys about Gsnguy's spree on reverting 75 slogans and performing miserable behavior, and fighting you guys.

It's a fraud for them to let them know that my son, has creating an spree of 75 slogans way back in October of 1986 err 2006. But then, he came back of January of this year, doing the same process over and over again, and eventually fighting other wikipedians (a very good encyclopedia person). Creating about 10 sockpuppets is very awful! And especially using the "Forget Password" feature. So I would've been trust my son, to let him suspend from this Wiki Net until April 1. Gsnguy? What did you say?

Gsnguy: To all of you Wikipedians and the Wikipedia Network, i am sorry about all of this nonsense i did, when i come back to editing on April 1, here are the five commandments of Wikipedia:

1. THOU SHALT NOT MAKE FALSE SLOGANS

2. THOU SHALT NOT FIGHT ANY WIKIPEDIAN

3. THOU SHALT NOT PASSWORDS

4. THOU SHALT NOT MAKE FALSE BLOCKS

5. THOU SHALT NOT BLANK PAGES, OR ADDING SWEAR WORDS!

I will follow the Wiki Rules and Regulations of this encyclopedia forever and ever, and ever. Thank You! And God Bless America!

re your comment at my Talkpge

Hi. When I checked the block log of the ip address you gave I noticed that it had been blocked by User:Luna Santin. Either the ip or sysop is out of kilter. However, to respond generally to your comment regarding vandalism from ip hoppers, there is little that can be done other than play "whack a mole" and hope that they grow up and find a different interest - Range blocks catch too many good contributors to allow us to do more than a short tariff. It may be that we can contact the isp to request an account restriction, but that usually takes far more effort than simply reverting the vandalism as it occurs. I hope this isn't too depressing! ;~) Cheers. LessHeard vanU (talk) 12:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Be glad you haven't, the character drives me nuts. It's pretty much the world revolves around her, she hates her brother for being who he is (because he doesn't behave 'her way'), and she gets annoyed when nothing gets her way.
