CVUA Trainer

Hi Andrew Base - I'm writing to you here because my own talk page is quite public now (especially since my RfA), and there are some things I need to say that I which you may not want others to read.

On my talk page, I was trying to subtly suggest that you do not put your name down as a CVUA trainer just now. Since you've now gone ahead and done that, I feel I have to be more direct - I don't think that it's in your interests, or those of the project, that you put your name forward as a trainer at this time. I'm sorry to have to say this, but please allow me to explain why, and think about it before responding.

Within the last few weeks, you have admitted to inappropriate conduct on your NPP training page, and also to lying about it after the fact. I'm not saying that these are irredeemable crimes or anything, but in doing what you did you affected the way that people feel about you - their trust levels aren't what they were before. Also, within the last few weeks, you made a mistake with regard to a revert, and I had to explain to you about apologising appropriately and undoing your own actions. Again, it's a small thing, but it doesn't look good. These are issues which you can definitely get over, but you need to build up a better reputation for yourself, and you're not there yet - I seriously suggest you spend the next few months working on counter vandalism, building up both your own experience, and people's trust in you. Your putting yourself into the tole of a CVUA trainer is going to raise some eyebrows, and that's not going to help the way people think about you.

I meant what I said to you on my talk page - I'm not in a position to tell you what to do, and what not to do. However, given your recent history, I really want you to reflect on this and consider withdrawing. If you get into difficulties with the training - for example, by giving your students incorrect advice - users may consider taking formal steps towards preventing you from offering training - that would be unpleasant, and I wouldn't want you to have to go through it. I really don't want to put you off from editing, your enthusiasm is clear and commendable, but I do think you really need to slow down - there's no rush about any of this. CVUA will get by without you for the time being - Cass and I are managing, and if we need help we can reach out to other experienced trainers.

Hey Girth Summit, I've withdrawn myself from the list of CVUA trainers as you said I need more experience in counter vandalism. Also, I will be doing counter vandalism work extensively over the next few months and when I feel I've enough experience and have regained people's trust I will re-add myself as a trainer. Also, alongside counter-vandalism I also plan to work on new page patrol and I've been reading the notability guidelines, I also nominated some articles for AFD, most of them were deleted. I also approached Cass about enrolling back in NPPSchool as I feel that is the best way to increase by knowledge about NPP. Andrew Base (talk) 09:40, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Girth Summit, I had a question about NPP, I know that NPP reviewers review the pages listed at new pages feed while AFC reviewers review the pages which are submitted for review in AFC. But are there any other differences between the two? Andrew Base (talk) 17:10, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Andrew Base, hi again. AfC and NPP are similar in many respects, but NPP is generally seen as the 'senior' or 'harder' task, requiring greater experience, and pages that are created via AfC still have to go through NPP after their creation. Before an article has gone through NPP, it isn't offered up for indexing by Google and the like - that allows us to 'filter out' bad pages before they attract much of a profile. AfC is a good way to get experience that would lead on to NPP - you still have to check sources, keep an eye out for copyvio and so on. GirthSummit _(blether) 17:31, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
