Comparison of rugby league and rugby union‎

This is getting a bit ridiculous. I think we can agree that there is strong consensus not to have it in the lead, so continually putting it back in there is disruptive. If you want to create a suitable section where opinions can be presented I am open to discussing it at the talk page (I even started in that direction with one of my previous posts). My suggestion is that you self revert your recent change, otherwise I see little choice but to report the matter to WP:AN3. AIRcorn (talk) 03:45, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

And you call me 'disruptive'? I've introduced reference upon reference, each as reliable and independent as the last, and all you can do is remove them. You're really not doing yourself any favours are you?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 03:33, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
If you want to collaborate on improving the article lets go to the talk page, this constant reverting is not doing anyone any favours. AIRcorn (talk) 04:38, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Can you please engage with this discussion Talk:Comparison_of_rugby_league_and_rugby_union#Moving_on Gnevin (talk) 08:56, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm not trying to be funny, but there is literally nothing for me to say that isn't already in Wikipedia's Guidlines. It's getting to the point where I'll have to simply start cutting & pasting their text onto that bloody talk page for you.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 09:08, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Start cutting and pasting so. Your adopting an entirely hypocritical approach to this issue. The charges you level at the quotes I've found can easily be levelled at the 20 year old quote your so desperate to keep Gnevin (talk) 09:12, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
I refer you once again to my existing comments here and on the article's talk page.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 09:13, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
While your references in the most part are reliable and you've done some good work improving the article . In some cases you've extend the text beyond the scope of what the reference can support. As for the quote why isn't Aston a WP:RS. He's played both games at international level ? Gnevin (talk) 09:17, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

The Thomsen quote is an opinion and so is the Ashton one. The mediums they are presented in are reliable enough for us to safely assume that the quotes are accurate. The people making the quotes are qualified to make such statements and each compares league and union. They are both as good, and as bad, as each other. If anything the Ashton quote is better as it is more recent. Gnevin is probably being a bit pointy, but he has demonstrated the problem with quoting opinions in an article like this. AIRcorn (talk) 10:24, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

The Wikipedia:Third-party sources essay refers to articles as a whole and is an argument used more for deletion than content. Primary sources are allowed within an article (see the policy page at WP:Primary). The third party essay is just saying that an article should not be based off them completely. However I don't see how The Independent could be considered a Primary source for this information. I can only assume you are referring to Ashton himself when you quote Wikipedia:Third-party sources as a reason to remove the information. Yep Ashton is a primary source when it comes to his own quote, but then so is Thomsen and any other quote used in the encyclopaedia. That is how quotes work. I can only guess that you don't think Ashton should be used as he has played both games and is therefore not independent of the subject, unlike Thomsen who is a sports journalist. This is tenuous at best and can be counter by suggesting that Ashton is a more reliable source because he has played both sports, compared to Thomsen who has only watched them (I assume he has only watched them, but if he has played either then he is just as independent as Ashton - less so if he has only ever played one). Wikipedia:Third-party sources is an essay (with low impact), while Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources is a guideline. AIRcorn (talk) 00:21, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Dispute resolution

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is "Comparison of rugby league and rugby union". Thank you. --AIRcorn (talk) 06:41, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation

Hi. The move of two Phil Jacksons disambiguated by their year of birth to instead disambiguate them by there position sets a bad precedent imo. Positions can change over a players career while the year of birth is a fact that will not change. I think such a change in practice should not be made without discussion at the project page. Wikipedia Help Survey

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out this brief survey about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. It should take less than 10 minutes, and your responses will not be tied to your username in any way.

Thank you for your time,

Dubious notability

Mate, I know you'll have a recollection of some of those Australian players who only ever made 1 x 1st grade appearance but as a consequence, have a WP article. Hey mate, what do you think about adding Category:Rugby league footballers from Sydney to Category:Sportsmen from Sydney. I know in theory RL footballers are of either gender however I am not aware of any female RL footballers who are notable. Thoughts? Mattlore (talk) 02:59, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm reluctant to treat one sport differently to the rest. It's possible that there are already some notable female cricket, soccer or rugby union players, so rugby league may yet have a few of its own someday as well.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 03:13, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

NRL reverts

Hi Jeff, I thought I was making some much needed changes. Keen to hear your opinions as an experienced editor. Bongomanrae (talk) 10:06, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Try moving things around instead of simply deleting them. Try adding 'citation needed' tags instead of simply deleting. If you must delete something, try not to delete the parts that are actually referenced (and the references themselves).--Gibson Flying V (talk) 10:49, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
I was trying to move what I could onto other pages (the NRL history page in particular) so that the NRL main page wasn't so overloaded with info (some of it is out-of-date/no longer relevant). Would you mind giving User:Bongomanrae/NRL a quick look and telling me what you think needs improvement/changing/etc? I'd appreciate it. Bongomanrae (talk) 11:10, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
The moving of stuff is fine. I didn't mean to undo that.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 11:17, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
No worries. I've made some more edits (and started some discussions on the NRL talk page) but I've made sure to explain what's going on in each edit this time. Would you mind just checking the NRL page's history and telling me if I'm on the right track? I'm a bit gun-shy about spending ages fixing things up only to get it all reverted again ;) Bongomanrae (talk) 04:12, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:2004 State of Origin Game 2 programme.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:2004 State of Origin Game 2 programme.jpg.
