Orphaned non-free image (File:Radio nan Gàidheal.jpg)

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Radio nan Gàidheal.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ZooFari 00:56, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, would you be so kind as to give us support!

[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing fine and I sincerely apologize for this intrusion. I have just read your profile and you seem a very learned person, interested in (small) languages so maybe I am not bothering you and you will help us... I am part of an association "Amical de la Viquipèdia" which is trying to get some recognition as a Catalan Chapter but this has not been approved up to that moment. We would appreciate your support, visible if you stick this on your first page: Wikimedia CAT. Thanks again, wishing you a great summer, take care! Capsot (talk) 07:18, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work Will!

inappropriate moves

[edit]

Please do not move pages by cutting and pasting content. Also please do not move pages from the base name, such as San Nicolás to San Nicolás (disambiguation). This results in a malplaced disambiguation. olderwiser 16:08, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop with these inappropriate cut-and-paste moves. If you do not stop and at least make some attempt to discuss, you make be temporarily blocked from editing. olderwiser 16:17, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I'm trying to fix this. Gherkinmad (talk) 16:19, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So please stop making edits such as this or this. The disambiguation page is correctly located at San Nicolás (although it could arguably have been left at San Nicolas). ≠ wiser 16:23, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@older More specifically to get all pages to redirect to San Nicolás (disambiguation). Is this acceptable? Gherkinmad (talk) 16:28, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not clear what you mean. Pages such as San Nicolas should redirect to San Nicolás since that is where the disambiguation page is. However, in hatnotes of other articles, such as San Nicolás, Santa Bárbara, or in the see also section of other disambiguation pages, such as Saint Nicholas (disambiguation), the links should use San Nicolás (disambiguation) as described at WP:INTDABLINK. olderwiser 16:36, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@older Ah yes sorry my mistake. No need to bother with that redirect. Could possibly make the redirect from the San Nicola (disambiguation) page to San Nicola? Right now that just goes to Saint Nicholas. Gherkinmad (talk) 16:57, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@older The San Nicola page could more usefully be the disambiguation page rather than a redirect to Saint Nicholas? Gherkinmad (talk) 17:28, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps so. It looks like the redirect was created in 2008 long before the disambiguation page was set up in 2012 and checking what links here indicates readers would be better served with a disambiguation page at the base name. I've gone ahead and moved the page. olderwiser 17:45, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Vinaya Patrika, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use the sandbox for that. Thank you. —Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 08:28, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Cpt.a.haddock Any Wikipedia content overtly prosyletizing for a religious group is better removed for a subsequent rewrite, as well as being useless to the reader. I thought there was a simple duty to remove such text: as you say, it won't be me rewriting it, but I thought one could clear the ground for somebody who could stress the literary merit of the poem.
I'd just want to question the usefulness of an IAST-based title for a work which is well-known for being in the vernacular. Is Vinaya the pronunciation in Braj Bhasha? If it is, I do apologise. I just think we need to differentiate a little more if there's a reason to. Gherkinmad (talk) 20:20, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anything particularly "overtly proselytizing" in the article. We simply go by the spellings that reliable sources use and many of them appear to prefer Vinaya Patrika. At any rate, please do not mark your edits as minor when they are not. Thanks.—Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 08:03, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Cpt.a.haddock I apologise: my chief strength is proofreading, I just knew the article couldn't stand as it was. I considered the content prosyletizing, so I thought the best thing was to remove it, even if that had to be most of the article. Gherkinmad (talk) 17:35, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. In case you are unaware of their existence, there's a guild of copy editors that you might be interested in joining if you enjoy sanitising pages. Cheers.—Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 08:13, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Pete Weber (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Animalparty! Speedy deletion nomination of Werner Weber (disambiguation)

[edit]

Hello Gherkinmad,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Werner Weber (disambiguation) for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, Werner Weber.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Weber, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Ernst Weber and George Weber (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 18:16, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm User:JosephusOfJerusalem. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to 1946 Cabinet Mission to India have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help Desk. Thanks. JosephusOfJerusalem (talk) 08:28, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@JosephusOfJerusalem: Whatever made you think it was a test edit? I modified the page number because it’s page 80 in the printed version; this is not reflected in the scans of the book and the page number given to it by Google is perfectly irrelevant. Is this understood? Gherkinmad (talk) 17:09, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies. Feel right to change it back. JosephusOfJerusalem (talk) 00:20, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rajmahali language listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Rajmahali language. Since you had some involvement with the Rajmahali language redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. PamD 08:35, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Gherkinmad. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Poetic books, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Akkadian

[edit]

Hi Gherkinmad, I've reverted your change to DAB on the Akkadian redirect because more than 250 pages currently link to it (some possibly by template). ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 05:51, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Hydronium Hydroxide: It will be heavy work but I think it is worth redirecting the links. A good few would be better going to Akkadian Empire or Akkadian mythology or Akkadian literature. Unless a bot could help? Gherkinmad (talk) 17:14, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Gherkinmad. Agreed that the change to DAB is a good idea to avoid the attractive nuisance of the ambiguous link. I can break out AWB tomorrow if you like, but that'd generally be a standard replacement of Akkadian to Akkadian language, and might miss some nuances where it should target elsewhere so would require further revision/confirmation. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 12:17, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Hydronium Hydroxide: I suspected that might be the issue. Happy to carry on manually if would allow for more precise; it's actually not bad going through them. Gherkinmad (talk) 18:38, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Gottfried Weber (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This disambiguation page contains the primary topic and one other topic for the ambiguous title and no other topics can be found within a reasonable time.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:02, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
