DYK for Santa Fe Railway Depot (Galesburg, Illinois)
On 1 May 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Santa Fe Railway Depot (Galesburg, Illinois), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the former station house at the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway depot in Galesburg, Illinois, had two waiting rooms, one for men and one for women? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Userpage deletion
I am requesting that my page & account be deleted due to the disrespectful attitudes of other editors. I am appalled at the tolerance of incivility. I also find a complete intolerance of new editors. I simply cannot continue to function in an environment such as Wikipedia where editors receive no consequences for their actions. I also request that all corresponding talk pages, sandboxes, and monobook files be deleted. Ryan Vesey (talk) 01:49, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- I am very sorry to hear that. Per request, I've also deleted all of your subpages. As Jasper said on your talk, we cannot delete accounts, but 'crats can rename your account to something like "Vanished user 12345"—see WP:RTV for more info. —GFOLEY FOUR— 02:08, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

A real downer
Hi there FOLEY, VASCO here,
really, one has to be discouraged with the apparent lack of indifference some users show (that or they don't notice the "you have new messages" banner when they start editing) towards the community.
In Atlético Madrid B, one anon user keeps linking the club manager (see infobox) to a Colombian guitarist, Antonio Rivas, the two different persons are named the same (click the link here to see if i'm lying), and the Spanish football player/manager, ANTONIO RIVAS MARTÍNEZ, does not have an WP article yet.
What did the anon user do after i sent him a to-the-point (but polite - please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:82.69.17.111#Why.3F)? Revert me again, with no reply (again, i insist in this point, really off-putting if one assumes these people read their messages)! Can you offer some assistance and/or advice on how to operate?
Attentively, ty very much in advance, have a great weekend, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:05, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- I think I've made a compromise. I added a link to Antonio Rivas (football), which is a WP:REDLINK. Now, someone may write an article if they wish to do so. —GFOLEY FOUR— 23:32, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- I've started with the basics (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Rivas_(footballer) - infobox, categories), some storyline in later days. The subject passes WP:NOTABILITY by a mile, played many many years as a professional in Spain, so no problem there. Hopefully that settles the score, thank you very much for your assistance (also sorry for my exaggerated summaries in the aforementioned article, but i was really losing it over the lack of response and reversions by the other person).
Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:21, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks for writing it. —GFOLEY FOUR— 01:17, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Salting
Thanks for your explanation about the salting. Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished. I still don't completely understand. The recreated listing deletion entry was there during the discussion. How could the article be recreated after the salt if the salt is supposed to prevent that? And why did the entry go away (revisionism)? These things may seem obvious to you, but they baffle me. I like all the dots connected.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:23, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- I see what happened. I was mistaken on ANI, User:DGG didn't create the page after the first salting (even though he could have, since he is a sysop). The log goes like this:
- (del/undel) 03:33, 27 November 2009 JohnCD (talk | contribs | block) restored "Mohammad Shaikh" (65 revisions restored: Restore prep to re-AfD)
- (del/undel) 16:00, 26 November 2009 SchuminWeb (talk | contribs | block) protected Mohammad Shaikh [create=sysop] (indefinite) (Repeatedly recreated) (hist | change)
- So when a page is deleted/undeleted, the protection of the page automatically goes away. For example, if I were to delete Justin Bieber and then restore it, the semi protection would be gone. Same thing happened with that article. The protection went away, allowing non-admins to create it. Got it? —GFOLEY FOUR— 18:03, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, one list nit. When I look at the history, it doesn't look the same as what you see. It shows the 11/26/09 entry but doesn't show the "repeatedly created" part. Are you looking at it with a tool I can use, or is it only an admin tool? Also, I could swear I saw a similar entry in 2010, which then disappeared, but maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:18, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, it's right here. —GFOLEY FOUR— 18:23, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Right, THAT is what I saw. Notice this entry: 14 April 2010 SchuminWeb (talk | contribs) protected Mohammad Shaikh [create=sysop] (indefinite) (Repeatedly recreated) (hist). If I understand properly, that should have protected the article from recreation, yet the next entry I see is a deletion by Cirt on 12 October 2010.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:41, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Heh, this is all a bit tangled. After SchuminWeb salted it in 2010, another user created it at Mohammad shaikh (notice the lower case). Someone tagged it with G4, but admin DGG did not think that the page qualified under G4. Noticing that the last name was not capitalized, DGG then moved it to Mohammad Shaikh. Since he is an admin and the protection was [create=sysop] , DGG could move it there. When the page when deleted again, the protection again "wore off". All of this is in the deleted history, so you won't be able to see it. —GFOLEY FOUR— 18:50, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- That now makes sense to me. I noticed that the salting is case-sensitive, so the recreation went through because of that. I don't know if it's possible, but perhaps when salting a BLP article like this one, it should be done with different case permutations to avoid an end-run around the salting. Thanks for all your time in getting to the bottom of this.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:55, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

False Project Camelot info
Hi, I work for the whistleblower website called Project Camelot. As you can imagine, it publishes information that some people don't like. For a couple of years now there has been this alternative Project Camelot entry on Wikipedia which states it is a government/military Social Project.
The Horowitz referenced on Wikipedia does not list a book called "The Rise and Fall of Project Camelot". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irving_Louis_Horowitz Yet this is referenced all over the place as supposed proof of a Project Camelot on the Wikipedia entry AND in the 'reference' here: http://www.army.mil/professionalWriting/volumes/volume3/august_2005/7_05_2.html#56 which is the first reference on the Wikipedia entry.
56. Irving Louis Horowitz, ed., The Rise and Fall of Project Camelot: Studies in the Relationship Between Social Science and Practical Politics (Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 1967), 47-49.
ALL the links and references seem to point to just one page: books.google.com/books?id=UggAAAAAMBAJ&a...p;q=Lowe&f=false Under the search terms "Soviet intelligence sponsored social movements Vietnam" But the Atomic Bulletin itself is not referenced on the page.
This current 'official' entry is very, very flimsy information that still has not been given any credence not even by the people who are cited to reference it, and it's still on Wikipedia.
To my mind, this is disinformation at its worse, and very cleverly done, set up to discredit the truly hard work and efforts of Bill Ryan and Kerry Cassidy to publish some real information on the web so that it can be seen and read by everybody. The Wikipedia entry was put here and then immediately abused as a reference point on Rense.com by an anonymous contributor.
When they tried to solve this before, whoever the anonymous contributor is, immediately abused their supposed 'rock solid' initial entry on Wikipedia to make it look like Bill and Kerry were trying to hide something, see here: http://www.rense.com/general87/camelot2.htm What can Bill and Kerry do about this? What can I?
I will continue digging as I have only scratched the surface and it's full of holes but any help or advice you may have would be brilliant.
Thank you. Bluestar68 (talk) 23:04, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

False accusations of advertising
I'm being falsely accused of advertising on Wikipedia. I wrote an article that was not deemed notable by some Wikipedia users. One really. And another user is falsely accusing me of advertising. I've never done that and would not do that. The article about subject J.C. Macek III may not have good sources but it isn't meant to be advertising. That was NOT my intention. Here's the notice on my user page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Neptune%27s_Trident&redirect=no
Thanks!Neptune's Trident (talk) 02:05, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'm the admin who warned him,--but I'm also the admin who declined to speedy delete the article until there was a chance to look further. I've asked for a discussion of the value of the relevant site, at the RS noticeboard, where Qwyrxian, whom I consider knowledgable about sourcing, has given his opinion that the source is unusable. I've advised Neptune's Trident to make a response there. If you know his work here and think he's been using it without realizing its unsuitability, I'll trust your judgement and apologize. If you think the editor otherwise, I'll leave it to someone else to block him if necessary. In any case, he article will presumably end up at afd, and I would expect that it & the links will probably be deleted, and the site put on the blacklist to prevent it use, inadvertent or not. I'll check back here tomorrow. DGG ( talk ) 05:12, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, for Chrissakes. This is ridiculous. I wrote A POORLY SOURCED ARTICLE. I could give a damn about spamming or advertising. I know damn well that NO spamming or advertising is allowed. I've been on Wikipedia on and off for YEARS as an non-registered user and only a few months with an account. And someone with a power trip complex is threatening to block me and blacklist a harmless movie review site. Are you kidding? A site with ZERO advertising and a modest readership. That's it, I've tried to contributed honestly to the project and added TONS of articles while as a non-registered user and made quite a few edits registered. And NEVER been accused of spamming or advertising. Don't bother, forget you and forget Wikipedia. Gfoley4 is a much fairer and liberal minded and tolerant administrator. You want to ban me? Put a harmless review site on stupid and ridiculous blacklist? Do it if it makes you feel happy and powerful and you get your rocks off from behind your keyboard off in your sad little life. I tried to HELP. I love Wikipedia. It is a great resource. And I always TRY to take a NEUTRAL point of view. Just delete the damn article. And if it makes you happy? Block me, I'm done with trying to be a Wikipedian and helping the project. I won't be back either way. Life's too short to deal with hateful, intolerant, small minded people, Gfoley4 and the many other fine people on Wikipedia are NOT among them. I'm done. To hell with Wikipedia. I won't say the same to you since I don't need a website to make myself feel powerful. I tried to help and contribute to make Wikipedia better, with a lot of adding sources and what I thought were fun reviews on the web for movie articles and lots of other articles. Check my history. Maybe you'll learn something. I don't sweat bullies. As I said life is too short. Try and honestly help and this is what you get. No good deed goes unpunished. - Indeed, no good deed of any sort goes unpunished. Here I am , trying to work in a quiet way doing nothing that actually makes use of any arbitrary or administrative powers (any editor can warn, or remove an speedy tag, & it's just as valid as if an admin does it). I blocked nobody. I deleted no article. I've expressed at every stage from the very start my willingness to apologize and be corrected. And yet on one had I'm accused of being over zealous, on the other of being over-credulous. Neptune,as you say "Try and honestly help and this is what you get." I've learned enough to not try to defend myself further. DGG ( talk ) 00:00, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

- I should really stop looking at my watchlist on my phone. Sorry. (Also see #Do you know something I don't?) —GFOLEY FOUR— 20:34, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Okey-dokey. No problem, I was just wondering. Acps110 (talk • contribs) 20:47, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, I have the rollback button disabled on my watchlist for that very reason. It's just a little too easy to click accidentally. Check out the code to disable it here on my vector.css page. Acps110 (talk • contribs) 20:52, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism only? Quite probably
Hi there FOLEY, VASCO here,
You may want to have a look at this chap, Turtledude ("contributions" here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Turtledude4), seems he can't get enough of expressing his endless love for turtles all over the site.
Slowly but surely, the eggs have hatched, now he's off to the sea of madness :) Attentively, enjoy the rest of your weekend - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:50, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Blocked. Have a great day too! —GFOLEY FOUR— 19:50, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- This one is not "vandalism perhaps", it's "vandalism FOR SURE" (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/190.174.203.200). Anon IP, seemingly static (lucky for us), keeps adding clubs to players boxes of his own imagination, even inserting goals for goalkeepers...A bonafide vandal, believe me! - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:17, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- Warned user. Hopefully they will stop now. —GFOLEY FOUR— 17:26, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks mate! Could you also have a look at this? in Quique Sánchez Flores, a Colombian anon user is seriously edit-warring with me (therefore i am too) over the player name in BOX. I have offered tons of arguments for my defense, he refuses to exchange one word with me, not even in summaries (and i see he does write the occasional summary), very rude!
Could you protect (if you don't i'll totally understand it) the page for a day or two, to see if that will change his approach towards me/the article? Thanks in advance - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:31, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- Fully protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Please try to discuss on the talk page. —GFOLEY FOUR— 17:48, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- He has responded to me, in a quite confused matter, telling me the person's full name is QUIQUE SÁNCHEZ FLORES, not QUIQUE FLORES, when i never altered the FULLNAME in box, only the PLAYERNAME (it's crystal clear). He made the same input in the article's talk, after i started the pertinent discussion.
At least we are getting somewhere. He also told me i could change it back to QUIQUE FLORES if it gathers good consensus. Even a SPANISH football editor (the same nationality of the subject at hand, Q.FLORES) told me he preferred QUIQUE FLORES than QUIQUE SÁNCHEZ FLORES. So, if i change it back in the box (remember, i am only "toying" with the PLAYERNAME, not the FULLNAME) when the protection expires, it will be the anon user who is edit-warring, not me.
Attentively, happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:41, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Quick question
Hey Gfoley4. I seem to remember you were good with images, you certainly came to mind. I've just come across TL Forsberg which includes File:TL Forsberg1.jpg. Now, that image looks like it should be copyrighted, and the license says that it's under CC-BY-SA, but that it's a Photograph of TL Forsberg, owned and supplied by her. Do we need any evidence of that, OTRS ticket or anything, or do we just accept on good faith? I know this is a bit of a beginner's question, but I don't do much work with files! WormTT · (talk) 14:35, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, we need something that says the author of the work releases it under the "CC-BY-SA" license. Since there is no evidence of permission, it would fall under WP:CSD#F11. The easiest way to confirm the permission is via OTRS—permissions-en@wikimedia.org (I think). —GFOLEY FOUR— 20:19, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
