Hello there. When you virtually blanked the article, Derby Theatre, you left the edit summary:
- "Have removed all copyright information following the unauthorised redirect from Derby Playhouse"
Do you have reason to believe that the text of the article is copied verbatim from a published copyright source and is therefore a copyright violation? If so, then you need to give the exact location for the source of the copyright text. If you have other problems with the article's content or its title, then you need to take your concerns to Talk:Derby Theatre or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Musical Theatre. Likewise, do not blank redirect pages as you have here. By doing so, you broke 50 incoming links. I have restored the redirect. Please do not revert. If you disagree, take the issue to Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion.
Re Moon Landing (music drama). I have removed the text you added as it was a copyright violation, pasted from the show's official website. I've left a welcome at the top of this page with links which new editors often find helpful. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk)
- Err, there is no such thing as Unauthorised Redirect. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 14:03, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
I fixed the formatting for you as it was not showing correctly on the page. However, you must give a reason for deletion on that page, i.e. on Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2012 May 9, as to why you think it should be deleted. You can't simply put it in the edit summary. Voceditenore (talk) 16:20, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Dear Sirs,
I have got to the bottom of the redirect of Derby Playhouse to Derby Theatre. According to your edit log Derby Playhouse wiki page appears to have been renamed Derby Theatre on 16 April 2009 by the new operators, Derby LIVE. Much of the original content was kept. I presume this was when a redirect was then placed on Derby Playhouse to Derby Theatre. I would like to restore Derby Playhouse wiki page in its own right and reinstate the content which was on the page 11th March 2009, and bring it up to date removing the redirect. Please advise as to the correct procedure to do this I hope this is the correct way to communicate with you, if not please advise Thanking you in anticipation Stephen Edwards Gerrad7042006! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gerrad7042006! - I've read your first comment at the Redirects for discussion page and asked you a further question there. You should copy your statement above to that discussion. Please realize also that the article is about the building which had once been called "Derby Playhouse" and after 2009 was called "Derby Theatre". The company with which you are associated, Derby Playhouse Ltd., was responsible for running the theatre building and for producing plays in it from the time it opened until 2008, but it no longer produces plays there, no longer owns the building, and never "owned" the Wikipedia article about it.
- Note that the article was not moved until 2010 and the move was made by an editor who appears to have no connection with the theatre. [1]. He was simply responding to previous changes to the article. It is standard practice on Wikipedia to move articles on theatres to their current name unless there are compelling resaons not to so.
- There is a possible solution—create an article Derby Playhouse (company) which would detail the history of Derby Playhouse Ltd and could be linked from Derby Theatre. This would allow the article on the theatre building to be pruned of excessively detailed (and out of date) material, which frankly would be an improvement. We have a similar pair of articles on Royal Opera House (the theatre) and Royal Opera, London (the opera company founded in 1946 and resident in the theatre). Once the new article is up and running, it may be appropriate to have Derby Playhouse redirect to it rather than to Derby Theatre.
- I'll be happy to help you with creating the new article, but until there is a more appropriate alternative, you must leave the current redirect in place and stop making these unconstructive reverts either to a blank page or to a page which redirects to itself. Such edits, even if not reverted by human editors, will be reverted by bots (Wikipedia-speak for automated tools that carry out maintainence tasks on Wikipedia). By making those inappropriate edits, you broke incoming links from 50 articles. Continuing to edit war, especially to revert to a disfunctional version of the page could get you blocked and you'd no longer be able to have any input on either the article or discussions concerning it. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 07:36, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Many thanks for your help. 1 believe there is a compelling reason for not doing as you suggest.
1. Firstly, Derby Playhouse Ltd , commissioned, designed, raised the funds and built its new theatre in 1975, on land donated by Derby City Council taking a full repairing 125 year lease. The 'building' took the company's trading name Derby Playhouse If Wikipedia has an article stating anything else then the article is incorrect and should be amended. 2. The term Derby Playhouse then became an interchangeable name for both theatre company and its new building. 3. When Derby Playhouse sold its "building" to University of Derby it was agreed that the ownership of its name remained with Derby Playhouse Ltd as part of intellectual property, and the building was renamed Derby Theatre. 4. Most people searching wikipedia for the theatre company would use the term Derby Playhouse, as this has been the company's name for over half a century. 5. It would therefore be more appropriate to do as I have suggested, which is to restore Derby Playhouse as the theatre company, which refers to its former building(s) and possibly a link to Derby Theatre if that is Wikipedia's policy. I don't know of the ins and outs of Convent Garden but suspect they maybe different to Derby Playhouse. Respectfully yours Stephen Edwards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gerrad7042006! PS Redirect. I was attempting to redirect the page to its original pages following your online instructions, unaware that your editor had made the change of name. I will not make any further attempts and await your instructions — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gerrad7042006! (talk • contribs) 08:50, 10 May 2012
- OK, I see what you're getting at, but you can't redirect an article to a blank page or a page redirecting to itself. To show you why this is not allowed... Someone reading Moon Landing (music drama) decides to find out more about the theatre where it premiered, clicks on the link and is confronted with this or this when the only information about the theatre currently available on Wikipedia is really at Derby Theatre. The reader has no way of knowing that.
- What can be done is to turn the page currently called Derby Playhouse into an article about the theatrical company (and pruning Derby Theatre) along the same lines I outlined above, but which states that the theatre building (now known as Derby Theatre) originally took its name from the company. Something along the lines of:
- Derby Playhouse is a British theatre production company. It was also the name of the building now known as the Derby Theatre from 1975 until 2009. Derby Playhouse commissioned, raised the funds and built the theatre. It owned the lease on and mounted original productions there from its opening in 1975 until 2008. When the lease on the building was sold to the University of Derby in 2009, the building was renamed.
- I suggest that the request for deletion be withdrawn and discusssions about the proposed new article and changes to the current Derby Theatre article be carried forward at Talk:Derby Theatre, where such changes can be discussed by other editors working in the area. By the way, we're not "Sirs". Wikipedia is written and maintained by volunteer editors. No one has a special status here when it comes to decision-making. We develop articles and maintain the encyclopedia via a process of discussion and consensus in line with Wikipedia's guidelines and norms, all of which have likewise been developed through the consensus of volunteer editors.
- In any case, if honorifics were used here, I'd be a "Madam", not a "Sir" . Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:25, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Dear Madam, (My apologies,) All you have suggested sounds sensible and clear. Can you offer guidance as to how I withdraw my request for deletion and proceed? Many Thanks Stephen — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.251.252.236 (talk) 07:01, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- You do not need to take any action about the request for deletion, as I have closed it "withdrawn by nominator." I leave you to pursue the suggestions above. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:47, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
A bowl of strawberries for you!
