Hello George Cabe. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Todd Siler, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. ukexpat (talk) 22:38, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Todd Siler has been reverted.
Your edit here to Todd Siler was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVU0raMK4L4, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrJby1YKyaM, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1NyieOGklg) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Todd Siler

[edit]

Hello. I noticed that on Talk:Todd Siler you stated

As a fellow editor, I urge you to reconsider. Just because your edits to Todd Siler were critiqued and may have been controversial, that in itself is not a reason to abandon editing altogether. It is rare to find an editor that is as passionate about a subject as you are. While some editors may minimize this passion and label it as a mere conflict of interest, I believe that to create and improve valuable informational resources, it is vital that authors and editors have more than just a small interest in the subject. There isn't one great figure in history that hasn't made at least one mistake. The most important thing is to learn from these mistakes, and to not give up. Remember this. -- JJJ (talk) 05:00, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thank you so very much for your kind note. As a newbie, I found the initial experience intimidating and emotionally draining. I have the highest regard for WIKIpedia and of course for the subject matter I wished to improve upon. To the credit of editors like yourself, who gave valuable, non-judgmental, concrete advice I did not give up trying to make it right and will continue to do so. If I should post a potential list of inline citations for the Siler Bio on either the article talk page or my own,(as suggested by others) how would that attract editors to take it to task when there is such a back load? I understand the nature of volunteerism and the time drain on many of you. I'm not sure what is the best approach. Your advice has been taken to heart. George Cabe (talk) 14:52, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Probably the best thing you could do (if you don't want to add the citations yourself) is list the links / citations on the article's talk page so editors monitoring the page can review and add them to the article. You could also post a comment on Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests requesting assistance. However, one editor posted a somewhat similar request and was directed to discuss the matter on the article's talk page itself anyway. If you post the information on the article's talk page I will make sure to look them over. I hope this helps. -- JJJ (talk) 16:53, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I know the artist and was told by several editors that I should not edit. Due to some conversations early on, I was accused of being a paid editor which I am not. I've done my best to help. I'll just hope that someone will take it on. If it was acceptable for me to edit, I don't have time to learn all the markups for editing as I travel for business. Thanks for you consideration and once again kudos for all your great work on WIKI.
