Warning
It is suspected that the users Code Napoleon, General Eisenhower and My Old Kentucky Home may be the same user with a penchant for creating duplicative articles about North American Native American cultures (please review their contributions). If you are creating articles without searching to see if a similar article already exists, please search first. Please do not take offense at this notice, if your contributions are in good faith, let us know. Having multiple accounts is still an issue. Feel free to ask other users for help if you need it. Re: Vandalism alert

[edit]

Hi, Gen. Eisenhower. I saw your note to Jimbo and wanted to send you a reply. You should know that we see a lot of vandalism on Wikipedia. Jimbo can't address every instance by himself; that's what we're for. If you see vandalism, you should simply revert it yourself and warn the user using one of the user warning templates. If a particular user is being particularly disruptive, you should list that user on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! Republican userbox

[edit]

Hi there General Eisenhower. Sorry to keep bugging you with messages! I noticed that you used the democratic supporter userbox from my page, and changed it to republican. (This is, obviously, absolutely fine). However, it still says "dem" in the blue box next to it, rather than "rep". Just thought you might like to know, in case you want to change it! RfA

[edit]

Just so you know, you put your RFA request on someone else's RFA instead of on the main RFA page, so I reverted it. Also, I recommend that you wait, with under 500 edits and other issues, you are not a credible candidate at this time. Read Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Standards and remember that these are minimum standards. Cheers, NoSeptember talk 00:40, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi General, I noticed you made an RFA page for yourself, but I don't think you completed all the steps on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nominate. Also, you might want to wait a bit of time, as NoSeptember says, as you might not have made enough edits yet, among other things. I'm flattered that you mentioned me on the page, but as a relatively new user, I'm not sure my name will sway anyone! ConDemTalk 00:52, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza

[edit]

Welcome, General Eisenhower/Archive 1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee, JoanneB, Titoxd and FireFox. The April elections have begun.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact me via email or talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, please see the IRC Tutorial, which was written by one of our members. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to be!

Thanks! _-M o P-_ 16:05, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

protected tag

[edit]

Hi General Eisenhower, I notice that you put the {{sprotected}} tag on your userpage. As a rule, this tag should only be put on pages which have been semiprotected by an admin - simply putting the tag on top of the page will not protect it. If you want to have the tag itself, that might be ok, but you should probably use a substitution instead. ConDemTalk 23:44, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA

[edit]

Hi General! It seems you still haven't quite completed the process involved in starting your request for adminship, which is detailed here. If you need any help, ask me. Although I think you should wait to be an admin, as you're probably not quite ready yet, if you do want to nominate yourself, then completing the process is essential so that people can vote for or against you! If you have any questions, as usual, ask me. ConDemTalk 00:32, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[edit]

I am running for adminship. And that is what I'm going to do. General Eisenhower 00:39, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, then all you need to do is edit this page adding the following text above the most recent nomination (replacing USERNAME with your name):

{{Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/USERNAME}} ----

ConDemTalk 00:44, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your Request for Adminship has been removed because it does not exist yet. Please actually create the page before adding your adminship to the Request for Adminship page. Jedi6-(need help?) 00:59, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You probably should create the page first. Though I must warn you that you are unlikely to succeed. I'd wait a couple for months and get at least 1000 edits before trying. Jedi6-(need help?) 01:07, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there General. I'm glad you found my advice on how to nominate yourself for adminship helpful, but I must stress that I think you'll be unsuccessful at this stage in your Wikipedia career... I'm not sure it would be right for me to vote Support for you, since I don't think you're quite ready yet. Still, good luck. ConDemTalk 01:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I too recommend withdrawal, as a bureaucrat probably will soon anyway... _-M o P-_ 01:59, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The best way to get community recognition is to do good work on the encyclopedia. The work on your user subpages shows that you are a quick learner about how to edit effectively. I recommend you put that good effort into encyclopedia articles (maybe join a WikiProject of interest to you and help clear their backlog of work) :-). Closing your RFA

[edit]

Hi! I have prematurely removed your RFA as it has garnered a sizeable number of oppose votes. Further listing will only attract a pile on of oppose votes. Going through the RFA it seems that most of the opposes are based on the lack of time and contributions on WP. Spend some more time on wikipedia, notch up several hundred edits, go through WP:GRFA before reapplying. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:13, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Nichalp. You need more experience. I suggest that you do good work throughout wikipedia that will be a fitting answer to all those who opposed you. So that next time you run for adminship, there should not be anyone who should oppose you. But this will take a lot of hard work and time. I suggest that you try again later by around July/August. If you keep up the good work, people will support you. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:39, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't overrule Nichalp's decision. As a bureaucrat, he has been elected by the community to manage RfA. Instead, try to keep up the good work, and try for adminship in a few months again. :) Johnleemk | Talk 18:02, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Relisting your RfA

[edit]

When a buarecrat delists an RfA, that means the crat has decided that the RfA has a sufficienitly small chance to succeed that it should not be on the page. Once a 'crat has made that decision, it is best not to interfere with it, wait a few months and then consider trying an RfA then. Relisting it is unproductive and will simply make people less inclined to vote for you in your next RfA. JoshuaZ 18:06, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you continue adding it to the RfA page, you may be blocked for violating the three revert rule. Johnleemk | Talk 18:10, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, wgat's important is that you learn from your mistakes. Just don't do it again, okay? :) Johnleemk | Talk 18:17, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have also reverted your nomination page to the closed version. Please do not try to open it again. Conscious 18:14, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

General Eisenhower, thank you for posting a comment on my talk page. The best thing to do in this situation is to see it as a chance to improve. The Wikipedians who commented on your RfA had some great suggestions for you; treat it as free advice. You have several months to go until your next RfA; use this time as a chance to shine. Re: Relisting your nom

[edit]

I'm sorry but I can't accede to your request to relist your nom. I haven't deleted your nom, I've only delisted and marked it as failed. Generally bureaucrats prematurely remove an RFA if the oppose votes exceed the supports by ten. It's not a fixed number, but it is an indication that the RFA has an almost negligible chance of passing. Since your vote tally was +2/-22, you would need at least 100 support votes in a week to gain adminship. RFA is not a vote: It's a consensus by the community to grant admin privileges to a member. I'm backed by statistics which will tell you that a candidate with little experience has very little, if not no chance of succeeding. Relisting will not achieve anything other than a pileon and a waste of everybody's time. As closing bureaucrat, I have gone through your RFA and determined that a premature removal is the best thing for the process. Please do not take it as a personal failure, instead take my advice to stick around and learn more about our processes. . Please do not arbitarily add the nom, it may be used against you when you reapply for adminship the next time. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:06, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the above for the reasoning behind the removal. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 19:34, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA & Civility Warning

[edit]

In regard to your RfA, if you want some schadenfraude I've failed two RfAs (one failed on my birthday)!

Also, in regard to your edit to Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Rockero it is, IMO, incivil. Making such incivil comments may lead someone to called it a personal attack - which is blockable. Also, making incivil comments makes your odds at another RfA much lower!

About your proposed organizations...

[edit]

After having viewed your proposals for a "Quick Vandalism Response Squad" and a "Wiki Supreme Court", I unfortunately must inform you that your ideas do not seem to be anything original. Your "Quick Vandalism Response Squad" is said to be for "quickly dealing with vandalism", but the Recent Changes Patrol already seems to fill that purpose. Your "Wiki Supreme Court" is said to be about "putting vandals on trial fairly", but the Arbitration Committee is used for things such as that. A friendly word of advice would be to take a look at Wikipedia's existing organizations before founding your own in the future. You may also consider going into more detail about what your organizations are intended for, as the discriptions for the two that you have proposed to are fairly vague. - Conrad Devonshire 23:32, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly Advice

[edit]
File:Esperanza.Coffee.gif
Perfectly percolated coffee, Esperanza's own blend.

General,

My name is Covington. You've probably met me in Esperanza or Community Justice. I just want to let you know that you are a valuable person; Wikipedia could definitely use your enthusiasm and specialized knowledge.

However, I've been feeling concerned lately. I know you're a good person. I definitely want to see you alive and well on Wikipedia.

May I suggest a short Wikibreak of, say, one week? When things get tough (and everyone has these times), I noticed that there are two types of Wikipedians. The members of the first group get into unnecessary fights; they either get kicked out or voluntary leave Wikipedia for good, and the 'Pedia loses a worthy editor. Those of the second group distance themselves form Wikipedia for a while, but return all calm and settled. These people are the great editors that you on the Wikipedia today.

It's not too late to make a choice, and I definitely hope that you'll come back refreshed and all ready to edit. Sleep in for a night, and have a nice cup of tea. You can even catch up on ordinary life and spend more time on Wikipedia later.

Be the better person. Relax for a week, and come back all centered and refreshed.

Now let's show the world how good you are.

Take care,

Admin sig

[edit]

The problem with the admin sig is that it causes confusion with other users, especially newbies who may think you are an admin which you are not. Im not banning you from using it but it is not a good idea because of the confusion. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 01:02, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Perhaps it would be better if you wait until you've been made an admin to use the new signature. ConDemTalk 01:05, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree also. --GeorgeMoneyTalk  Contribs 01:19, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to be a bit more strict. Should I see you using it again while you aren't an admin, I'm afraid I'll have to block for disruption, since your signature is confusing for others. I hope this is clear. NSLE (T+C) at 01:27 UTC (2006-04-25)

Instead of using Template:Admin try Template:User. Its the same kind of signiture but without the blocks and protects sections for admins. Jedi6-(need help?) 02:35, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, don't. You MUST sign with ~~~~. "Signing" with {{User}} will not produce a timestamp, which are very important on Wiki. NSLE (T+C) at 02:37 UTC (2006-04-25)

Raw signature (no auto link; don't use templates or external links in this)

I don't think we're supposed to use templates in there. _-M o P-_ 02:47, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It might say not to, but it is the only way to do it. If you didn't click it, then it would show

[[User:General Eisenhower|{{SUBST:Template:User|General Eisenhower}}]] or in other words, {{SUBST:Template:User|General Eisenhower}} —Preceding unsigned comment added by GeorgeMoney (talkcontribs) 03:55, April 25, 2006

No, I know that, but it says not to insert it. It may work, but if they put it there, it probably means something. _-M o P-_ 02:56, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That is what I use for my signature. {{SUBST:User:GeorgeMoney/sig}}. There is nothing wrong. BTW, it said Raw signature (no auto link; don't use templates or external links in this). No autolink means that it is the only way to do it. --GeorgeMoneyTalk  Contribs 03:11, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Avian flu category

[edit]

We already have a flu category and all but a couple of those are avian flu articles if "This is about Avian flu outbreaks" includes cases in nonhumans. And if it only to include humans then what is the definition of "outbreak"? H5N1 doesn't even qualify as an "outbreak" in humans (altho it qualifies as cases). Please undo what you have done with regard to the avian flu category. It makes no sense. Please don't be disruptive. I would be happy to answer any questions you have on the matter. Vandal fighting idea

(from Funnybunny's page) I've got an idea to fight vandals! And, you, Funnybunny have done so much anti-vandal work! What if the Counter-Vandalism Unit elected Generals, and after getting much bigger, Lieutenants, Sergeants, etc. But a General would send a code through the levels, like 45.m.K would be "hit random article and look for vandalism". or 86.p.2 would be "fall back and quit searching like a wild maniac". What do you think?-Sabertiger 02:38, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Sounds nice. It can get the vandals confused about the codes. Funnybunny (talk/Vote for this policy) 02:43, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Improvment-Each level on the Wikidefcon will indicate a code. Peace, orders are in English. 4 every other letter, etc., maybe.

Hi. Edits like this are not very helpful... please, just adding "{{PAGENAME}} is a [whatever]" is not good expansion. If you aren't going to go to the trouble of expanding an article beyond a sentence, please do not edit it. It is not helpful in virtually any way.
