Band of Horses

Hi Randy, I thought your BoH related stuff warranted one of these!

The Original Barnstar
For sterling work in bringing info on Band of Horses to a wider audience

While on the subject of BoH, do you think the title was really changed from "No One's Gonna..." to "No One's Going To..." for the single, or is it just a typo on Allmusic?? I just wondered because the cover shows "No One's Gonna..." - let me know what u think. Iangurteen (talk) 16:46, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Hi Randy, you're very welcome to the barnstar. I've had a look at the song title for "No One's..." - it is referred to as "No One's GOING TO..." occasionally on the web, but normally in blogs & setlists etc. where the blogger is correcting Ben's grammar! CD Universe are selling the 7" single as "going to" but when you click on their picture you can see "Gonna" on the cover! I think I'll change it and maybe create a redirect page from "going to" while I'm at it. Iangurteen (talk) 08:23, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the links to the videos, I'll take a look. Iangurteen (talk) 07:01, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Laredo

Randy, I'll have a proper look later. I've got a pic of the cover so I'll get that uploaded. I'll have a think about which Laredo he means too.

The main thing that strikes me is the lyric you've quoted. I helped put some of the BoH lyrics for Infinite Arms onto songmeanings.net and I remember getting into a debate about this. I'm absolutely sure that it's not KIA. There is no such thing as a Kia Lorenzo. It's KEY AT LORENZO. Someone told me that it wasn't possible to put a bullet in a key(!) but I'm convinced that's what he says (when did BB's lyrics make sense?). Also I don't think it's an edited "Fucked" - it's just "A kitchen knife UP to my face" - I remember we got that changed on songmeanings.net eventually! I just think the "fff" sound at the end of "knife" added to the "up" makes it sound like the swear word! Anyway, as I said I'll look later. Well done for another BoH article! Dilly

Hi Randy, I watched the Dilly video yesterday. Very strange! It's got me very confused. First I thought I read somewhere it was a "lost film" from the 60's that had been rediscovered. It appears this is an invention and it is a newly shot video! The film poster on IMDb certainly makes it look old, but the director named is an invention. Also if you check IMDb, the director and actors involved has mostly never appeared in anything else, which is very odd. If I were you, I would wait and see how everything pans out. Maybe the previous BoH single, "Georgia" is more deserving of a wiki-page. Certainly the fact that it's a split single with Cee-Lo, who is one of the biggest stars in the world at the moment, gives it some interest. It's been pretty quiet on the BoH front lately, so I've been working on updating pages to do with Crowded House, which turns out to be a BIG job! Regards, Ian. Iangurteen (talk) 08:35, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Have a look here...seems to clarify the situation. I guess you've probably got enough for a wiki-article there, especially with the IMDb link, it's actually probably more interesting than the previous singles. Brilliant song too, I seem to be drawn to songs with unintelligible lyrics ("I'm reeling in the long days getting behind" ???????????) Iangurteen (talk) 08:42, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi, Randy. My honest opinion is that "Dilly" does not warrant it's own page. However, the video, the IMDb link etc. was all very interesting, so I think you could mention it on the main BoH page. Iangurteen (talk) 08:03, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi Randy, I had a bit of a think about it. "Dilly" probably warrants it's own page because of the IMDb video. Also if it has charted in Belgium, that helps give it notability. "Laredo" has also gained notability by it's appearance in the US alternative and rock charts. It's getting harder to define what actually counts as a single now, especially if it has only a digital release and does not chart. I think "Compliments" was struggling to make the grade. It certainly had less claim to have its own page than the other 2 tracks mentioned above. I'll have a look at the new page when I have more time and maybe make a few constructive edits if necessary. All the best, Ian. Iangurteen (talk) 19:23, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Reply

Sorry if I came across as condescending in my edit summary. Actually, it's already mentioned and referenced in the The Dark Knight Rises section, so it should be okay to keep "trilogy" in the section title.-5- (talk) 00:13, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Randy

I get what you're saying, I'm just going off http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Saw_characters and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_A_Nightmare_on_Elm_Street_characters where the few pics used were of the actor and not the character, I would haveused one of Neve not one of Sidney(Neve in character) but I didn't want to create a new image just for a character list. I too am not sure on the actual guidelines, I think as long as the image has a purpose, its allowed. I could maybe make a screencap of Jamie from the movie if you'd like, I think anything you find onhte web will generally not be allowed unless its also a screencap.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 02:13, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

There ya go. http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/9402/212r.jpg It's late here so I'm going to bed so if you like that pic feel free to upload it to wiki and use it.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 02:18, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Where is this criteria stated?Darkwarriorblake (talk) 17:57, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Well obviously I wasn't involved in that discussion but I do think it needs to be reevaluated. Steven Orth was in the film all of 3 minutes, didn't have a line and was then gutted, I think his name was only mentioned once or twice and if it was mentioned in the 2nd film I don't think that is a very good measuring stick since it will have been a cursory mention, I don't know what it was but I'm guessing something to do with "starting with the murders of Casey Becker and Steven Orth" or something along those lines. Being a victim of Ghostface shouldn't be important either. It should be anyone listed as starring I guess in that montage at the end. I mean on the Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 3 pages they will have a starring section in their infobox right? The entire cast isn't listed there so why are they chosen? I haven't checked but I'm willing to bet Orth's actor isn't on there but Bridger's probably is. I dunno becuse saying who is ntoable and who isn't is OR and isn't good but I just can't see how Orth or Himbry belong on a page detailing important information about the entire franchise or why if they're simply mentioned that is worth noting. I mean Maureen Prescott is mentioned a lot but she's never on screen until the third one and even then she's dead and fake. And Billy and Stu weren't in the third one, not even in flashback, just some dialogue so listing them as in there seems silly. It needs a reevaluation of some sort.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 14:00, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Especially, there should not be a character called "Reporter" listed. If she doesn't even have a name that's pretty bad.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 14:11, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
Is there no FAC or GA that can be used as an example? Lord of the Rings is the only one I can think of and its list is terrible but honestly, the Scream article will never get high ranking with that character list. Whatever it is based on, it definitely should not be based on someone being mentioned but not appearing or dialogue from a previous film counting as an apperance.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 16:57, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
:P I did a lot of that article, with Mike Allen and I think cyberghostface. Rewriting that is, I fought against the layout but it grew on me. I'm really not sure where to look, I tried every major film franchise, LOTR, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Alien, Terminator, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Star Wars. The only one with a grade is GA LOTR and the only ones with a character list are Star Wars and LOTR and the Star Wars one is not something to be copied. It has someone listed as Dexter Jettster. I looked him up and he is some 4-armed cgi-chef that appears for 3 minutes. I'll try to keep looking.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 17:34, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

crickets

Hello - I'm pretty sure crickets do not have red blood. Most insects have clear or greenish blood. Their blood is quite different from ours, and doesn't contain an iron-containing heme groups to bind oxygen - which is why our blood is red. I wonder if the color you saw wasn't from gut contents. What color is their food? de Bivort 03:19, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Boat Drinks

Why did you create it at Boat Drinks (song) when Boat Drinks wasn't used yet? (By the way, the song didn't have any sources but YouTube, so I redirected it per WP:NSONGS. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 19:16, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

  • I am now. I created Boat Drinks as a redirect and now someone needs to G6 it so the song can be at that title. The sources you've added are borderline (Songfacts is usually not considered reliable), but they're close enough for me to say the article can stay. Joe Swanson Debate

Geeky Randy, as you have already shown evidence of being a level-headed debater in List of Family Guy Characters, I was hoping you could add your thoughts on Joe Swanson's incontinence. I need to know if I am just going off on a tangent here. Thank you for your time.KlappCK (talk) 18:27, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

In response to your response on my page, I have to just stand in awe of your lack of desire to get involved, primarily because of self-identified bias. I only wish the deletionists, as you have referred to them, were as self-aware.KlappCK (talk) 12:33, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
I've read the WP:CANVAS and I understand your meaning. I wasn't looking to recruit people to my side, as it were. I was really looking to bring in a greater consensus among people who have debated at length about the page in the past. You were just the first one I found. It is funny that you mentioned that paraplegia implies incontinence, as that was an argument given by User:Dp76764. As our own article on paraplegia indicates, paraplegia does not necessarily imply incontinence, as there is a wide severity spectrum. If I have an underlying motive, it is to increase exposure of incontinence as a disease, since it tends to be taboo in our culture, by citing persons (real or imagined) that are afflicted with the disease. Does that violate WP:NPOV?KlappCK (talk) 18:10, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
We'll see where it goes. I feel like I've gone in circles already.KlappCK (talk) 17:29, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Nov 16

Hi Randy, it's been a while, as u can see I've changed my user name! The Nov 16 YouTube clip was interesting, but is it really an early incarnation of BoH? We've only got 1 comment on YouTube to support that. There's nothing I could find on the web for a band with that name. I guess the usual wiki-rules apply and a relaible, independent source would be needed as a reference. I have to say, the vocalist sounds like Mat Brooke, but I can't hear Ben in there. Maybe this is a pre-BoH recording by Mat? Regards, Ian. Thegraciousfew (talk) 18:32, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

A further search reveals that Nov 16 is......St Matthew's day! Thegraciousfew (talk) 18:35, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi Randy, I'm not aware that Grand Archives have ever performed "Barn" or "St. A." which is a shame. They certainly didn't do those songs on either of the occasions I saw them here in the UK. I guess Ben doesn't see these songs as BoH songs, as Mat wrote them and introduced them to the band, although ironically on the LP versions you can hardly hear Mat in the background of both songs under Ben's vocal! I guess that is probably Ben in the background on the Nov. 16 version, so that's a kind of reverse version to the LP. BoH in Seattle sounds great, I am jealous. Next up for me is The Low Anthem here in London in November, can't wait. Thegraciousfew (talk) 06:17, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
