Semi-Retirement

[edit]

On October 28, 2011, Geeky Randy decided to semi-retire. He had been relatively inactive for the past few months and after discovering the death of Google News Archives, decided to resign contribution at Wikipedia. Given his dislike for the basic Google News, his extraordinary distaste for Apple Inc. (complaints from large newspaper publishers and Apple’s iPad drawing too many publishers to the Apple platform is what resulted in Google’s decision to cease work on their News Archive) and his open hatred for "deletion-happy Wikipedia l-users" (Geeky Randy got over 95% of his sources through Google News Archives, which prevented his contributions from being deleted), he felt it was best to discontinue his work at Wikipedia. Given that there might be other convenient sources for news databases to come along in the future (or to be discovered by Geeky Randy) and that he does indeed read many articles here, there is room for his return as an editor sometime in the future.

Non-free rationale for File:Band of Horse's Factory promo single taken with camera.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Band of Horse's Factory promo single taken with camera.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 20:19, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ben sings Mat

[edit]

Thanks for those links Randy, I just spent a very pleasant few minutes on Boxing Day morning watching those 2 videos. Great to see & hear Ben singinging Mat's lyrics. Sadly Mat hasn't put any new Grand Archives stuff out for a while, he's too busy running bars in Seattle, perhaps you could pop in to The Redwood or The Oak and have a word! Regards from the UK, Ian. Thegraciousfew (talk) 09:48, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Randy, turns out we've both shaken hands with Mr Brooke! I met him at a London show and said hello during the support act, he seems like a really quiet, humble guy. I praised him for the fantastic sound at a previous London concert and peversely the sound was pretty bad at the subsequent show! All I'm really interested in is when the new album will be out and when they're touring the UK again. The "Villains Demos" are superb and I cant wait for a full album containing those songs. If you need to buy Mat a drink, he enjoys Jamieson Whisky, but as he owns the bar I guess that won't be necessary! Happy new year from the UK, Ian. [edit]

Reaching out here bc you haven't responded to my emails.

Thanks in advance for helping me create a page for The Cornfield People. It's long past due the movie got a page.

About a week ago I sent an email with my draft of the wiki. Sent to you gmail address from your blog. Check your spams again mayhap?

You think it'll qualify? Notice I used some of your wording from the article at the Art & Popular Culture encyclopedia. Hope that's ok. Thanks also for that. Always helpful for someone else's take, even for wordsmiths. Feel free to add your spin to the draft.
