School AfDs
[edit]Sorry, a lot of people tend to misinterpret "no consensus; keep" decisions so I need to emphasise their nature. Perhaps I've accidentally carried over this habit to other debates. Anyway, if people have an issue with my closing statement, my user talk is always there; admins don't bite. :) Moving on, AfD is a debate over individual articles, not a topic as a whole. You can keep "because it complies with WP:SCH" but not "as per WP:SCH" (which arguments on WP:SCH?). This behaviour also encourages the original voter(s) to respond to any questions with "refer to WP:SCH". This does not foster a discussion or debate -- it's just a vote, which AfD is plainly not. Image Tagging Image:GilletteStadium.jpg
[edit]This image may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:GilletteStadium.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --OrphanBot 07:59, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I'm posting this message on you Talk Page either because you've contributed to the article Babe Ruth, or because you've edited other baseball or sports related articles. I've recently completed a revision of this article at Babe Ruth/rewrite. If you have the time, I'd appreciated it if you'd compare the articles and leave any feedback you might have on the rewrite discussion page. I'd like to reach a consensus before makeing major changes to the main article. Thanks for your help. --djrobgordon 20:39, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Gateman1997. It is clear that you are aware of the many deletions of right-wing templates by the Administration. I think that we need to band together to fight against this politically correct move by the Administration. Sread the word. LordRevan 23:07, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
"Speedy" keep?
[edit]If you really must vote keep on extremely undersized stub categories, please at least refrain from asking that they be "speedily" kept, for which there's absolutely no basis whatsoever, and is tantamount to an accusation of bad faith on the part of the nominator. Alai 18:41, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- As you see fit, and without even an attempt at justification? Alai 03:13, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- You made a comment, but how does it rise to the level of a justification of the "speedy" part? Do you have reason to believe this nomination was improper, in bad faith, or for any other unsuitable to be deliberated for the usual discussion period? If you're looking a generic intensifier, try "strong". (Or indeed, why is it a "justification" at all? Just how small a stub category would you propose to keep? WSS norm is long-established at 60.) Alai 03:25, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Your belief that it's improper is simply mistaken, then. Please see WP:SFD#Possible_reasons_for_the_deletion_of_a_stub_type, which specifically states: Their scope is too limited - As a rule of thumb, there should be at least 50 appropriate stubs in existence. So how can making such nominations possible be improper? And btw... hours of work to sort six stubs? Slight use of hyperbole, there? Alai 03:37, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- The rest of your work on US roads are hardly material, as I'm not "undoing" that. So as I say, hyperbole. I have no illusions about changing your vote from 'keep', given your history on such matters; the summit of my ambition is some small indication you might in future be somewhat less lax in your inappropriate calls for something to be "speedied". If you're going to get outraged about admins not following correct process, you might have a stab at doing so yourself. Alai 03:49, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

restoring the more informative infobox
[edit]Rather then changing from a standard template (that may be uninformative) to a hard-coded table, would it not be better to expand the template? I don't know much about the subject itself, but I do know a consistent (and automatically refreshing) appearance is almost always preferable. — Mar. 8, '06 [21:14] <freakofnurxture|talk>
- Actually it's a hand-coded table, depending only in and of itself. Perhaps it used to be a standard infobox and somebody substed it, I don't know. In any case, it's cumbersome to scroll through in editing, and each article would have to be changed individually if somebody wanted to change, say, the width or color of it. — Mar. 8, '06 [21:21] <freakofnurxture|talk>
- I doubt he's trying to destroy or "neuter" content, as SPUI has added far more road-related content to Wikipedia than any other user. You might suggest to him expanding his template as a potential compromise. — Mar. 8, '06 [21:29] <freakofnurxture|talk>
- We have. He refuses. A user tried editing his box... he reverted. He wants his exact box or no box at all. We're going to file an RFC or Arbcom later today I hope.Gateman1997 21:30, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- To his credit, the only revert he made to the template was when JohnnyBGood removed the word "highway" (see hist). Let's not jump the gun. — Mar. 8, '06 [21:38] <freakofnurxture|talk>
- Okay I'm going to poke around at various articles then go to the sandbox and see if i can come up with a mutually satisfying version of the template. This sounds rather frivolous for arbcom to deal with. — Mar. 8, '06 [21:48] <freakofnurxture|talk>
- Actually, looking more closely at SPUI's infobox, I see that it allows the user to add as many junctions as he wants, the only difference being the "postmile" stuff, which isn't really useful to the average reader unless there is, at a minimum, a link to something explaining it. If I had a better idea of its significance I might be able to determine how best to add it to a standard template, so maybe I'll go do something else for now... — Mar. 8, '06 [22:39] <freakofnurxture|talk>

Admin abuse
[edit]Nice to see that admin abuse is alive and well here on wikipedia. I've been blocked indefinitely with no explaination given on my talk page as is required... just snide comments like this "I unblocked JohnnyBGood to reblock him indefinitely as a sock of Gateman1997. I'm sure SPUI will be pleased ;-) - David Gerard 02:13, 9 March 2006 (UTC)". It would almost be funny if it were true. But alas it isn't. And here I sit banned and the gent who did it conveniently vanished rather then answering any emails or queries to him. What a world, what a website.Gateman1997 05:35, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
- A discussion is ensuing at WP:AN/I for those interested. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 05:55, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
- This is intolerable. They should require admins to stay online for a few hours if they're not going to post the reason someone was blocked. :| Gateman1997 08:27, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Can't anything be done to fix this?!?! I've been banned for 14 hours now with not so much as a peep on my userpages as is required. I've been wrongly hosed and now stonewalled here. I've emailed the blocking admin 2 times with no response... Can't someone run one of those checkuser things or ask David to at the very least respond to me? My email is easily accessible through my account. :( Gateman1997 18:03, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Gateman, note that in the diff you provided, SPUI was fixing a double redirect. If a page is moved from "A" to "B", then from "B" to "C", "A" must be edited to point to "C" instead of "B", otherwise the incoming links and searches are broken. — Mar. 27, '06 [00:43] <freakofnurxture|talk>
