Agrippina (opera)

Hi,

I'm just looking at GA reviews sort randomly, to see how it is done.

I'm a PhD student, and as such have become certifiably obsessive about citations & references. So take what I say in that context, but.. the refs in Agrippina (opera) look quite unorthodox to me. Most of them are <ref>Dean</ref>. Let's set aside for the moment the idea of having page numbers...which I fully accept are optional under some schemes... shouldn't the very first citation be a named reference that includes the full info about the book, and the following ones have the same name:

blah blah <ref name=Dean">Winton Dean. Humour with Human Commitment: Handel's "Agrippina" (1997). Brief essay to accompany Gardiner recording</ref> blah blah Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit<ref name="Dean" />

Well, cites are a rather interesting topic. Really, they are different depending upon who is working on the article. Such is the wiki-way as it is...but to answer your question, I think the only reason one would include the whole citation in the first ref would be if you are using a combined Notes/Refs section. I have only recently started heavily using cites and I always list the References separately and simply use the author's name and page number for the cites, regardless of where they occur in the article. Two articles I've worked on recently where this has been done are David Garrick and Samuel Foote. To me, this system makes the most sense. It's too damn difficult to read combined Ref/Notes sections. As for this article, I honestly didn't look too closely at the cites, more at the content. Atlanta School of Drama?

I was editing the article on Patrika Darbo and I noticed there was no article on the Atlanta School of Drama, if something even exists by that name. Since you're interested in the evolution of theatre in Georgia, I was wondering if you'd be up to the task. I just did an inital search and came up with nothing. Are you using the info from IMDB? Generally, IMDB isn't terribly trustworthy, much less so than Wikipedia, certainly. Latter Days

I don't really understand what it is that you want regarding a background section - surely a person in fifty years time wanting to know about homosexuality and religion would check out Homosexuality and religion, or the more specific Mormons and homosexuality? The underlying reason for having a background section would be to explain why this film was made. This film was not made simply as entertainment but to address a specific issue. Basically this section would briefly describe the Mormon stance on sexuality and possibly give an example of the controversy. While a reader can read the articles on Christianity and homosexuality etc. this section would summarize that, plus apply it specifically to the movie. Additionally it places the movie in a context. If you'd like, I can create the section myself. Category tags

Hi! I have a question about the Category:Theatre tag. If there is some other identifying tag attached to an article that would let a reader know that there is a relationship to theatre, such as "Playwright" &c., is the Category:Theatre tag no longer necessary for the article to be connected to the Theatre project? Just a head's up

Hiya. I just wanted to let you know that I plan to use Imperial Court System as the LGBT Portal Featured Article in approximately 2 weeks. It is recommended that we only use GA or better articles, but I was truly impressed at how well it was written, and the number of references it contains. The only issue is the formatting of the references. They need to be expanded per Wiki guidelines. If you haven't done this before I will be happy to help you. Brenna and Bronwyn Tosh

Brenna Tosh and Bronwyn Tosh played a role on 33 episodes of a television series. That's enough in my mind to make them notable enough for an article. Since they apparently have no other credits than sharing the same role (a not uncommon practice for identical twins as young child actors) I wouldn't object to merging them into a single article as has been done with similar twin chlid actors. I spotted a couple of articles you prodded. The correct way of doing this is {{subst:prod}}. On pretty much any article already prodded, this will leave a HTML comment (enclosed in <!-- -->) which says something along the line of "do not use 'dated prod' directly". If you do, then the prod won't actually be dated, and the "zomg it's been five days already" magic won't work (oh noes! :)). Thank you for your positive feedback - I have recieved some negative feedback on my AfDs (then who doesn't recieve negative feedback when nominating an article for deletion?). My current project is clearing out all of the unassessed articles in the WPBiography project and giving them assessment, but some of them fail the WP:BIO standards, like Adiel Stein. Cat: Vaudeville

Hi there. I noticed you'd been busy adding cat:vaudeville to lots of music hall stars. No problem, but not a typically British term for the acts, although many did appear in vaudeville in the US. I have been careful to check that the British music hall stars actually appeared in America before adding them to the List of vaudeville performers and the category. There does seem to be confusion between the two in some articles and my next project is to attempt to correct that. Indeed, I'm considering creating a List of music hall performers to help out as well as a category. My expertise lies only in American vaudeville, but I'm certainly willing to learn what I can about music hall. That's great. I too had been thinking of creating a music hall category; but have been struggling with the number of overlapping categories implied by that. There's a similar problem in creating 'former music halls in London' (and elsewhere, because many of them also operated as theatres). I think, with its importance that a category and list would be appropriate. In that case, if someone down the road doesn't like it and it gets deleted (which I rather doubt, but you never know), the list would remain. What I'm doing with Vaudeville is using the list to justify the category. I just took a look at the categories and it appears that there should be a category for Music hall under Category:Variety entertainment. So, Be BOLD! I think he wrote some vaudeville routines or something, but was not an AGVA member; but I don't have a copy of Once Around the Bloch handy to check. (Something of Bloch's was apparently quoted in F. T. Marinetti, "The Variety Theater" in Collected Writings of Marinetti (1971)). If you find out different, let me know. • Sincerely regret any upset and am glad to learn that this was a good faith work of yours. But, in my defense, when I suddenly saw multiple Vaudeville Cats popup on such improbable persons as Babe Ruth, Commissioner of Baseball Ford Frick and even a pancake mix trademark (Aunt Jemima) without any explanation in the articles as to the subject's connection with vaudeville, it appeared to be a BOT-type attack. Not being an Admin. myself, I reported it to the Admins. since they have the tools to block a user from further damage. As a suggestion, it would probably be a good idea to explain in the article what the subject's connection is to vaudeville, as otherwise the categorization just kind of hangs there in mid-air leaving the nonplussed reader scratching his head. I removed the Vaudeville performers category which you added to Original Dixieland Jass Band. I am not familiar with them playing in Vaudeville houses nor touring on the circuits. If you have such info, please add it. As far as I can determine, the group's playing for dancing and not Vaudeville is something that set them apart from other early New Orleans groups that got to New York in that era. Hey Sandy! Sorry to get back to you so late, I've been in meetings all day. WikiProject Theatre would govern the style of this article, however, guidelines have never been established. My suggestion in trying to bring this article up to par would be to compare it with the few articles on plays that have reached FA, such as The Country Wife and The Relapse. While both articles are on Restoration comedies, the basic structure should still apply. I hope this is helpful! Well, the issue of unfree images has popped up on LGBT Peer Review. Of the three that have tags, two pictures were taken from Flickr. If you read all the tags, there is a tag that says these images may not actually be free, though they are marked as such. As for Audre Lord, the tag is a GNU tag from the creator, yet no name for the creator or any other information is given. If you know of any free images that might replace these, please add them. I hate removing these photos, but I don't think we have much choice. I'm going through the images again tomorrow and I may likely find more that should be removed. Even some of the very old images don't provide proper information, therefore, they cannot be used until that information can be tracked down. I will also look again at the images I removed, it's possible, with a little sleuthing that I can uncover the needed info. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 01:27, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Sleuthing? Both of those flickr images already have the tag that says an administrator or trusted user has verified the license. You can also click through and check the license again if you want; I did and they're fine.

The summary for the Audre Lorde photo credits it to Elsa Dorfman by both name and URL. Any doubts about this can be resolved by checking her website, which says "...see Elsa's stuff on Wikipedia". —Celithemis 01:40, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

The reason for wikifying dates is not to link them, it's to allow users' date preferences to work. According to the Manual of Style at WP:DATE:

Dates containing a month and a day

If a date includes both a month and a day, then the date should almost always be linked to allow readers' date preferences to work, displaying the reader's chosen format. The day and the month should be linked together, and the year should be linked separately if present.
