Fair use rationale for Image:Amul-butter.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Amul-butter.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 10:06, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

For your bot work (User:Ganeshbot) and your development of useful template tools like {{WP India}} and others. Saravask 23:11, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

I already knew about your bot work, Ganesh, but was taken aback when I took a look at {{WP India}} in edit mode. These are very handy tools that I've often used. Thanks. Saravask 23:11, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

But it still (from the edit history) looks like you put a lot of work into customization for use on Indian articles. India has so many languages, states, daughter WikiProjects, and articles. I've been here for less than two years, yet I'm amazed at how much more complicated and refined WikiProject India has become! I wonder how much more astonishing this complexification is for old hands like Nichalp. Salu2. Saravask 14:49, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Formatting issues on my 1a page

Hi, thanks for doing that, but in fact, I'd always wanted to blacken the midnightblue title "Lined lists" to be consistent with its siblings, but it steadfastly refuses to decolour without knocking about the formatting of the subsequent paragraph (turns blue or bolds). I've tried everything! Tony 01:10, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks; still don't understand how you knew what to do, but it's fixed. Tony 11:54, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Regarding change of article (Jaunpur,Uttar Pradesh)

Hello Ganesh, This is in response to the message you sent me regarding change of an article on Wikipedia. The fact of the matter is that I never did post a new link,as you have said, nor have I ever browsed that particular article. There must have been a mix-up somewhere. we need a "television" notice

Hi Ganeshk, since WikiProject Indian television is the newest workgroup, we need a notice template like WikiProject Indian cinema has. Is it possible for you to arrange this so eventually we can have a Workgroup-level statistics chart too? - Bhavesh.Chauhan 03:50, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. I've noticed you've added "television support" to a number of pages/templates during the last couple of hours and I also see that the Workgroup-level statistics chart for Indian Television up and ready. Protection for Shop Boyz wikipedia page for Universal Republic

Hello, I am an employee for Universal Republic who has been editing the Shop Boyz wikipedia page in order to enhance their explosive image. It is imperative to have an in-depth biography section with a plethora amount of references. However, users such as, "Klptyzm," have been deleting valid and essential information on the Shop Boyz wikipedia page. I am in need for an Administrator, such as yourself, to protect the Shop Boyz wikipedia page and allow only certain users to edit information on it. Thanks.

Hi,

I saw your reversion to the prior edit. Why did have to remove the education column? I think to have a proper understanding of the nature of the Indian presidency, the education column is a necessity. Look, their political affiliation is common knowledge. Everyone knows that the person who gets the maximum votes across party lines, eventually wins. So what? Must not the public have a right to know whether their president earned their degrees from? Even if a president is a rubber stamp, the common man needs to know the academic institutions that produced the rubber stamp president!! Must you deprive Patna University of all credit if Laloo Prasad Yadav becomes the president six years from now?!

Thanks,

Patoldanga'r Tenida 21:57, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

whoa re:re:hey everyone

Thanks for the quick response. I was trying to implement that through the source, but it seems that the punjab-importance parameter doesn't show up, while the history-importance parameter does. I tried using editing adding the second-level thing as you said was in the diff, but when I put the parameter in, it didn't show up. Pandacomics 19:20, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Dear Ganesh, I am a reader of the magazine, Frontline and I have maintained an entry for the magazine...the entry has been arrived at after numerous discussions with various users on the same. A vandal, ("Lib Democrat") and with IP Address: 59.145.142.36 who keeps insinuating allegations on the magazine, and not indulging in the discussions page. As an admin, can you please block further edits of the magazine as it stands now (after my revision, under the name Vrsrini). Thanks! Wikipedia Weekly Notification

Just a super quick note, Wikipedia Weekly Episode 21 is out and can be downloaded at the usual places (if you've forgotten, WikipediaWeekly.com works wonders. -- Tawkerbot 01:29, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I recently happened upon your simply wonderful bot while perusing the backlog of proposed mergers. I've started working on clearing the backlog in the Not created list. After completing the mergers, what do I do to get the sub-articles within the Bot's userpage to be deleted? Or could you do it? Just thought I'd ask you. aJCfreak yAk 09:24, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I just manually counted the entire set of articles still left to be merged/worked upon in the Ganeshbot/Not created list. I discovered that there are 158 articles pending. Many more are listed in the cat page cos the {{Mergefromganeshbot}} template has not been removed from the respective talk pages. I suggest that the statement As of 5 November 2006, there are 1058 articles waiting to be merged. be changed to something like As of 2 August 2007, there are 158 articles waiting to be merged. There is also a backlog of templates yet to be deleted from the talk pages of articles.
For a simple list of how many articles are left in each alphabetical category, you can visit my userpage (I've put up a Ganeshbot backlog section at the bottom of my userpage). Cheerio! aJCfreak yAk 12:04, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi again. I've removed the {{Mergefromganeshbot}} template from all articles which have already been merged. The cat now has 144 articles. But there's actually 158 articles left to be merged. Will continue working on the articles. :) aJCfreak yAk 16:28, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Ummm... I didn't get what to do with the three pending states. Could you explain to me please? Sorry that I'm taking up more of your time. And btw, I didn't use AWB. I went the age-old method - manual. Yep, I manually went to the talk page of each of those articles with a redundant tage and removed the tag. :) You can take your time in explaining about the three pending States, cos right now - I'm working on speedy-delete-tagging the finished articles. Then, there are 158 article mergers to be finished. :) Your bot is awesome, btw. Wish I knew enough programming to create a few bots of my own! aJCfreak yAk 06:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Added functionality to Ganeshbot

Hi again. It's getting to be tedious work. The mergers atleast are fine, but removing the {{Mergefromganeshbot}} tag from talk pages, most of them which already have articles created is becoming a pain. Would it be possible to extend the functionality of Ganeshbot (or simply, extract only the required code and create a new bot) which could delete the said template from talk pages of articles? Just wanted to know if we could do that. aJCfreak yAk 14:46, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

If you're gonna implement that idea, would it be asking fer too much for an added function - one where the bot could check the Not created page and tag articles which have been <s> ... </s>'ed with {{db|[[WP:CSD]] G6}}? Thanks! aJCfreak yAk 14:50, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Gansehbot

Hi, an editor tagged 3 subpages of this bot user space, User:Ganeshbot/sandbox/Fatehabad, User:Ganeshbot/sandbox/Faridkot, User:Ganeshbot/sandbox/Faridabad for speedy deletion under criteria G6 (Housekeeping). Since you got the tools and I have no idea what this is about, could you look into it? Thanks! -- lucasbfr talk 22:26, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I'd go for G6 but with a bit more explanations, I assumed it was really housekeeping, but since there was no really explanation on what it was, I feared it was a bad faith deletion. -- lucasbfr talk 09:02, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

What is the source of city info added by Ganeshbot

Hi Ganesh, what is the source of city info added by Ganeshbot, is it census data shared somewhere by Govt of India. Can you pls share the Url of the source. Also can you pls tell me whether that source have info on below Tehsil/Taluka level as well (like block, villages etc). India has around 6.5 lakh villages (averaging about 1000 per district) and it would be great if they can be put on Wikipedia, district/tehsil wise using some Bot. Vjdchauhan 12:41, 3 August 2007 (UTC).

Thanks for your reply on my talk page. Also pls check my post on User talk:Sumibot page regarding the same. Vjdchauhan 22:58, 7 August 2007 (UTC).

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the reply. Cleared up a coupla things. Will continue working as and when time permits. I hope to have the entire list wrapped up by this weekend... :) aJCfreak yAk 14:14, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Naming of districts

Ref.- Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian districts/Naming

Last time when the debate on the use of district in articles I was not much active at that time. It is understood that use of small d had won (7 votes) where use of capital D got 4 votes. I want to know what the formal decision was. As both of them have almost equal valid reasons and anti reasons it got votes based on personal favouritism. I think lets have a poll once more with a community-wide attention:.(ie. Add it in the Wikipedia:Community Portal). Somebody may act as a neutral judge and can give his casting vote incase of a tie.(democratical process). This will give a clear concensus as last one was not clear. I am also holding the view that last votes may be taken into account as some of the users are not acive now. Amartyabag TALK2ME 12:08, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Response to [1]: We should try to organize regular meetup of wikipedians from India - repeat wikipedians - somwhere in India. In fact, we may organize such meetup at three or four convenient places in India from time to time, say, once in a year - total 4 meetups in a year. IMHO, we should also move towards having a Wikimedia chapter is India. The wikipedians from India - present and potentials; active and inactive for the time being, should move in this direction. If we can do this, I am sure that we will have a correct reflection of India in India-related pages. Regards. --Bhadani (talk) 13:49, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
