Hello there, You removed my contribution to update the status of the BG coach No.80590. I had correct information and I do not see what is so "inappropriate" about updating its status. I have photographic evidence, as well as a number of visits to the MR-B, that 80590 is indeed used as the home of the TUGS Exhibition as that has been its job on the railway for the past six years. It is no longer a stores vehicle hence the update. Please could you revert the page back to my previous change. Thank you. --Bashed3g (talk) 12:06, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

@Bashed3g: The reason I reverted your edit isn't because it isn't true, but because the external links were problematic. Generally, external links should not be provided except for the "external links" section at the end of a page, and even there, they are subject to strict guidelines since Wikipedia is not a repository of links. I've removed your subsequent Facebook link per WP:EL#social and many of the other external links (half of which were dead anyways). In the future, it would be more helpful if you could provide a reference instead (see this guide to learn how).   Ganbaruby!  (remember to ping!) 13:38, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
@Ganbaruby: Ah I see now. I didn't know what it was I had done wrong as I am new to editing on Wikipedia so that's my mistake. Thanks for your reply.--Bashed3g (talk) 15:44, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
@Bashed3g: No worries, I appreciate you reaching out! Let me know if you have any further questions about editing.   Ganbaruby!  (remember to ping!) 15:49, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

(a comment left as an edit summary)

No idea what I'm doing here but giving it a shot. You deleted my addition Arthur Caplan's page, citing no citation. He's the medical analyst for CNN during Covdid-19 pandemic, and I work with and know he is working on allocation of scarce resources during the pandemic. I don't have a citation because it's not been reported; it's part of his job. Please restore the deleted sentence. Thank you. ----EthicsMatters

  • @EthicsMatters: If it doesn’t have a citation, it should not be included per Wikipedia’s verifiability policy. This is especially important because we are dealing with a biography of living persons. I’ve also reverted your subsequent edit because your claims are not backed by the source given, and the language is written in an non-neutral way. If you can find a proper source listing his responsibilities during the COVID-19 epidemic, I’ll be happy to add it back into the article. One last note: put your text directly into the talk page body next time — I almost missed what you wanted to say!   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 06:14, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

Here are the citations

You removed the change I made on "charity shop" so here are some cites backing up the information.

CNBC: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/27/as-the-secondhand-market-booms-used-clothing-is-an-acceptable-gift.html

Grist.org: https://grist.org/article/secondhand-shopping-is-really-popular-all-of-a-sudden/

It would be really appreciated if you could put it back up. Thanks! MalvaPenttinen (talk) 13:49, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

@MalvaPenttinen: That's great that you've found sources! I don't want to only revert back to your edit, however, because 1. the content belongs in the "Popularity" section and 2. the writing can be more specific, using the examples and data that the articles include. I'll leave it to you to add the sources in and weave in the information as you see fit, but you can always leave a message here if you need any help.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 15:00, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Removal of Robert Caulfield

Why would you remove a reference to an American artist that was born in Roxbury Massachusetts from famous people? Tcronin124 (talk) 00:37, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

@Tcronin124: People listed under the notable residents section must fulfill the notability guideline. Generally, we only list people if they have an existing article written about them, I've removed it for now. Also, you added an external link to a personal/promotional website, which we avoid per WP:ELNO.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 08:52, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

Peter O'Neill

(----)◢   Ganbaruby!    deleted two of my edits in the article on Peter O’Neill ex-prime minister of Papua New Guinea. His argument: “because it did not appear constructive.” (a) Such a reasoning is too superficial, it can mean anything, (b) ◢   Ganbaruby!    has no knowledge of Papua New Guinea, nor of the politics of Papua New Guinea, nor of politics in general (c) He claims expertise in training contributors to Wikipedia. If he wants to do so, then he has to point our where a disputed contribution clashes with the Wikipedia guidelines. (d) The edits in question were meant to augment neutrality and fairness . O’Neill is a controversial politican and I put the general concerns about him besides his own view of his achievements. (e) I do think that mere loose facts have no meaning. I had in previous versions given an interpretation that was considered too far reaching. I did not agree but accepted those deletes. There seems thus no reason to delete the edits and I do think that ◢   Ganbaruby!   overreachd himself to state it friendly. Please let me revert the edits back to the text.(----) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Van donge (talkcontribs) 13:51, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

@Van donge: I took a second look at the edit, and I recognize that you edited in good faith and apologize for not explaining myself clearer. I do stand by my revert, however, as your addition (and the rest of the article) suffers from a manual of style issues, and the wording itself is both confusing to people outside of Papua New Guinea and in places is a original research issue. I'm quite busy at the moment, but I'll work on the article on the next couple of days to bring the prose up to standard, and I'll reach out to you on your talk page when I inveitably run into questions.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 14:11, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

For my edit on "The Cheerleading Worlds", if you think it is unneutral could you help me out?

@Berkleighmahan: Of course! I originally reverted your edit for non-neutral words like "pristine", "selected", and "hardest", but you will also need to find better sources for the material provided (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources for an overview of good and bad sources). Once you have that, I'll be happy to proofread your writing for any spelling or grammar mistakes. Looking forward to what you come up with!   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 15:04, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Does this sound any better that could be published? The Cheerleading Worlds is a very well-known competition where only some teams are invited to participate. It is a difficult competition for the entire all-star cheer season. In order to be eligible to participate at The Cheerleading Worlds, a team must obtain a bid from another competition. Different competitions around the US and the world offer these bids. Bids act like tickets into the competition, without a bid the team is not permitted to compete. Bids can be offered in many ways. It costs approximately $25,000 for a team to be able to go to The Cheerleading Worlds. These bids help pay for those costs. You can receive a “full paid bid”, where the bid pays the full cost of $25,000 for the team. It is very difficult to receive a full paid bid, so only the best of the best teams receive this bid. Another option for a bid is a “partial paid bid”, this is where about half of the fee is paid for. This bid is a lot easier to receive than the full paid bid. The last option for a bid is called an “at-large bid”, this is where about ¼ of the cost to enter is paid for it. This form of a bid is relatively easy to receive. After a team receives either a partial paid bid or an at-large bid, they can upgrade their bid if they are given the option to. That is if the team wins another bid at another competition before The Cheerleading Worlds occurs. Once a team has received a bid they are ready to compete at The Cheerleading Worlds competition at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Berkleighmahan (talkcontribs) 17:12, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

@Berkleighmahan: The beginning still uses non-neutral words like "very well-known" and "difficult", and the rest could be taken as original research, or your own analysis/commentary on the competition. I would suggest you to go look for reliable sources that back up your claims first, then try to write based on information given in those sources.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 19:04, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

I rewrote the whole thing and used credible sources. Does this look better? If you have any suggestions could you edit on my post? The USASF also known as the United States All Star Federation and the International All Star Federation has just two competitions each year. One of the competitions is called The Cheerleading Worlds and the other competition is called The Dance Worlds. Other various competitions sponsor t different teams to compete at one of these two competitions. Senior or International are the two main divisions that both cheer and dance can be eligible to compete in with a bid.

A competition can give up to $25,000 for each team they sponsor. This is considered a paid bid. Various competitions award multiple bids, so it is not out of reach to get one of these bids and get resources will be allocated to support teams that have participated in their competitions during the year. The Owners of the competitions select teams of the highest distinction from their events to represent their companies at The Cheerleading Worlds of The Dance Worlds.

In order for a team to be eligible to compete for a bid they must have the following requirements: a coach that will not only be on the roster but will also be present throughout all of warmups. The coach must be certified in tumbling and building for the specific level of the team. Teams that do not tumble only need a coach with building credentials. There are many events that give out bids some of these events include but are not limited to: Royal RumbleSuper Nationals, AB National Championship, Holiday Classic, Encore Championships, Spirit of Hope Nationals, Hard Rockin National Cheer & Dance Champ, Mid Atlantic Nationals, Cheersport Nationals, JAMZ All Star Nationals, NCA All Star Nationals, and Spirit Fest All Star Cheer and Dance Nationals. <ref>http://usasf.net/worlds/cheer/info-docs/</ref> <ref>http://usasf.net/worlds/cheer/bid-events/</ref> <ref>http://usasf.net/worlds/cheer/credentialing/</ref>

@Berkleighmahan: Sorry, but the sources provided are primary sources, which are generally undesirable. Could you find more independent, secondary sources to add to the ones you have now? Also, it seem like you are closely paraphrasing/borderline copying your sources, which is not allowed, and was why your last edit was reverted. For now, work on finding better sources so we can have something to work off of. I'm going to sleep now, but I'll answer more questions in a few hours.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 19:53, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Do you suggest I keep my older edit and just makes changes to wording and sources? Here is my older edit with newer sources.

@Berkleighmahan: The paragraph above is considered original research since a lot of the information written is not explicity stated in the sources provided. I don't think you knoew exactly what I mean by reliable sources and neutrality, so I've taken it upon myself to rewrite the article. Take a look at my changes and let me know if I've missed anything, or if you have any further questions.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 09:09, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

One of my assignments for my college English class is to publish 250 words on a topic on Wikipedia and it is due tomorrow. I have never used Wikipedia before so I am unfamiliar with how it works. So I would really like some help to get at least 250 words published. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Berkleighmahan (talkcontribs) 16:10, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

@Berkleighmahan: You can see what I added in the "View History" tab next to the search bar on the top right. Even though I understand you need to hit 250 words, your edits still have the same problems as I listed above, including a lot of original research and general prose issues. I suggest you figure out how to edit Wikipedia according to our guidelines before your assignment is due tomorrow.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 01:48, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

James I. O'Neill High School

Hello! I saw you deleted my posts from this page. I attended high school at O'Neill and know the information about these alumni to be true. I would appreciate it if you could put the information back? They are very important people in our school, their pictures are hung in the main lobby! It has not been updated in a very long time so I made those updates all at once! Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Youknowwho121212 (talkcontribs) 18:12, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

@Youknowwho121212: While the information you added may be true, lists should follow the guidelines at WP:CSC, namely that each entry should fulfill the notability guideline. Generally, that means that each person listed should already have an article written about them.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 18:57, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

silly edit

This edit is very silly: You said I added an external link when all I did was correct a punctuation error in the already existing external link, then you said you were reverting my edit because the link shouldn't be there even though your reversion of my edit left the link intact and only reinstated the punctuation error.

Whoops. I've taken the entire link out. Thanks for the heads up.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 03:35, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Thanks a lot. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.183.9.35 (talk) 13:37, 26 April 2020 (UTC) By the way, do you actually read things before you delete them and use your own knowledge, or do you just delete things without thinking?

What you added may be true, but you need to have a citation for your claims. Without citing a source, your addition counts as original research, otherwise there is no way of verifying the truthfulness of your claims. Hello there. This is an invitation to join the 50,000 Destubbing Challenge Focus of the Week. £250 (c. $310) is being given away in May, June and July with £20 worth of prizes to give away every week for most articles destubbed. Each week there is a different region of focus, including one week dedicated to South-South East Asia, though half the prize will still be rewarded for articles on any subject. There's a potential £120 to be won in total for destubbing on any subject or region of your choice. Sign up if you want to contribute at least one of the weeks or support the idea! † Encyclopædius 11:37, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

@Encyclopædius: Thanks for organizing the challenge! Just a quick question: are there plans for a "focus of the week" that includes East Asia, specifically Taiwan and Japan? Those are the two regions I usually edit in.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 12:05, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

I can include Taiwan. Remember though that half the prize every week is given to topic or subject of choice. So you could technically do Japan throughout and win up to £120! IIf it's a success I may even consider doing a challenge/contest for Japan later in the year if the virus issue dies down.† Encyclopædius 12:08, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

@Encyclopædius: No worries, I'm not too concerned about the prize money. I was just thinking about how there's a lot of stubs to be worked on not just here, but in China and South Korea as well, and whether having a focus week that includes East Asia would promote other Wikipedians to join the effort.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 12:22, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Yes, a huge number of stubs, East Asia really needs it's own contest. I'll see how this goes, it's possible we could do one for Japan, China. Taiwan, the Koreas and eastern Russia a bit later in the year and even launch a 1000 article challenge for Japan, we'll see.† Encyclopædius 12:31, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

@Johnnyahmed: I'm not very familiar with boxing, so there's not much I can help content-wise. The biggest concern about the article is whether if passes the notability guideline. My advice is to find sources that pass WP:GNG first, then incorporate that into the article. Also, do not revert other editors' edits on talk pages or in the AfD discussion; those should be retained for future reference.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 16:23, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Recent edits reverted

Hello. I'm new to this, and apologize if I missed something. However, you quickly "reverted" some edits I made to the Woman's Exponent / Exponent II article, and I'd like to understand better what gives. My first edit was mostly about layout, I guess, and the other two added a few facts. I followed the WP:CITE link you kindly provided but that states that specific citation is required only for "any material challenged or likely to be challenged, and for all quotations," not for every single point. None of the information I added seems to meet the "likely to be challenged" test, and the layout changes are surely even less controversial. The official policy makes sense, as citing every fact, which is something no major encyclopedia does, would be impractical. Britannica, for example, might mention one or two sources for a whole article, and even academic papers don't footnote everything. You surely do not revert every contribution by us readers and occasional editors? I would be happy to seek out some sources, but I am sure you also have experts on the Wikipedia team who help with this, and at any rate this takes time, what with paywalls and closed libraries in these virus-ridden times. You understand, I hope, that just having everything I did between calls removed within minutes does not encourage further participation, and contributes to a reputation I've read about in newspapers for a somewhat closed or unwelcoming attitude? I understand that you are all volunteers but if you have a chance to reply, that would be helpful. Thank you,83.220.238.100 (talk) 09:45, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Ideally on Wikipedia, every single piece of information, no matter how small, should have a reliable source backing it up, as per one of our core verifiability policies. WP:CITE doesn't say that only controversial pieces of information should be cited, but instead highlights that controversial information and quotes have to be cited, but others should also be cited as well. This is how we make sure information to Wikipedia is as close to the truth as we can get. I'm not accusing you of making stuff up; however, the problem lies with I can't be sure that you aren't making stuff either, which is why citing everything is important, even if "impractical". Because of the technical aspects of the anti-vandalism program I was using, I happened to revert your formatting changes as well, which I'll be happy to restore. I couldn't find any aspect of your edits that were just "layout". You might want to take a look at Help:Referencing for beginners before you add information back into the article. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 12:13, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

@Pierre Djeffel: No. You are under the burden to provide sources at the time you write more information, especially since we are dealing with a biographies of living persons, which requires us to be very strict with the rules. I suggest to use your sandbox (found at User:Pierre Djeffel/sandbox) to write the information, and when properly sourced, copy it into the article.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 10:50, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Correct use of rollback

Hi. My understanding is that rollback should *only* be used for suspected vandalism, which this quite clearly wasn't. 86.134.212.26 (talk) 10:36, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Nope, standard rollback other uses (see WP:ROLLBACKUSE), and rollback through other tools (in my case, Huggle) is used for more reasons since it provides an edit summary. As for your edit, while leads are typically written summary-style, they are not exempt from our citation policies (see MOS:LEADCITE), especially for recent events such as the COVID-19 pandemic.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 10:45, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
Ok. Of course, preventing misinformation is highly relevant. ( Though if you care to look at the edit summary [1], I suspect you may not be so trigger happy :)

The issue here isn't referencing, but a neutral point of view issue, specifically WP:PUFFERY. You'll need to explain how and why she's "establishing an international reputation", as well as showing that she's noteworthy enought to belong in a broad summary page such as Music of Egypt.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 12:17, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Auspicious train ticket

On 11 May 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Auspicious train ticket, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that some Taiwanese train tickets are collected because the combination of station names is considered to be auspicious? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Auspicious train ticket. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Auspicious train ticket), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

That's pretty weird indeed. I don't really know enough about the subject, maybe ask Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer science?   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 02:23, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

There are many blogs that ask about Pat Bradley’s personal life. I wrote a few notes answering those questions. Do I need legal proof for you to add it? Producer Amethyst Producer Amethyst (talk) 21:39, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

@Producer Amethyst: You need reliable sources to back up every single claim you make on his page, since we are dealing with a biography of a living person. This includes his personal life as well, which could come in the form of news articles or others. Blogs, fansites, or any site not independent of the subject do not constitute as a reliable source. Additionally, your comments indicate that you have a conflict of interest with the subject. Read the policy linked and edit carefully.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 03:26, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Why did you remove my edits to the Marcia Shallcross Hite page?

I don't understand why you removed my edits to the Marcia Shallcross Hite page. I've been citing my sources which so far have been from the Courier-Journal, the newspaper of her hometown and included info about art shows she's exhibited and arts organizations that she contributed to.

What's up? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Terri6000 (talkcontribs) 18:45, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

@Terri6000: Wikipedia's policy on external links prohibits putting them in the body of the article, which is why I reverted your edits. The rest of your edits are well-cited and great additions to the article, so I apologize for the mass revert.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 18:54, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

No. Your external link is prohibited under WP:ELNO.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 18:55, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Why did you remove my edit to the Whirled page?

I edited the line saying that Whirled Club was up to include Tensor Town, another iteration of Whirled, also being up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.81.228.70 (talk) 18:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Inline external links should not be added, and you also didn't provide an reliable source for your claims.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 18:47, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
I believe my new edit has properly included the thing about Tensor Town. If you believe that I have done wrong again, feel free to revert it once more. Have a great day! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.81.228.70 (talk) 19:46, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi Ganbaruby. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Anarchyte (talkwork) 09:57, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Why did you ignore that a draft existed for Yoasobi before making it? You could have moved the draft to the mainspace and expanded upon it. I noticed you worked on the page in your sandbox before making the article in mainspace, but when you went to create the page, you would have seen the notice that a draft existed for the page, created by another user (Swift68). Granted, the draft is nothing special, but building upon the work of other editors is the core of Wikipedia and you could have chosen to do this. (I have turned off pings. I will check for a reply.) Ss112 06:22, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

I had finished my version in my sandbox at the time I noticed the draft existed. My reasoning at the time was that 1) the draft was basically a stub and didn’t have anything my version didn’t cover 2) Swift68 hasn’t worked on the draft in almost a week. I’m not sure what else I could’ve done. Would it have been better for me to update my version into the draft, then submit it for AfC?   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 06:38, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
It's true that I am not active on Wikipedia now, and I am happy to see other volunteers still work on it. Thanks for the contributions by both of you. Swift68 (talk) 06:45, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Swift68: Thanks for your countributions to J-pop articles as well. I hope I didnt offend you in any way. Feel free to edit the Yoasobi page as you'd like, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 06:55, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Why did you revert my addition to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign page?

I added a link to a list of companies/startups launched by Alumni/Faculty/Students from UIUC. It is crowdsourced and validated to ensure accuracy. The feedback is that it is not suited for an encyclopedia, which does not make sense to me since it is a validated list and has a mechanism to ensure accuracy.

I reviewed the guidelines provided for links and did not see anything on there that the link seemed to break.

Thanks!

@Anon2490n: You were reverted for our external links guideline at Wikipedia:External links, which states that inline external links are not to be added. The link provided also violates some of the points at WP:ELNO, specifically 1 and 14 (probably more).   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 04:33, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

Hello Ganbaruby,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

You asked for providing sources. There are no sources. I myself am a computer software developer. The edits that I made are the recollections of me and my colleagues. There are things in life, particularly memories and feelings, that do not have any sources or documentation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:CF50:3390:0:0:0:49 (talk) 06:24, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

That would make the information added origninal research, which is prohibited per Wikipedia guidelines.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 06:30, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

@Kotruv: I've reverted a bunch of other links you and people before you added. We really want to keep the external links section to a mininum: usually, the official website of the subject is enough. Check WP:ELYES for which kinds of links we want and don't want.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 09:29, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Niles' Register

Hello, I'm Ganbaruby. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Weekly Register because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. ◢   Ganbaruby!   (Say hi!) 01:35, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Dear Ganbaruby,

Niles’ Register is not an encyclopedia. It is a newsweekly that was published from 1811 to 1849. To find references in in to a person, place, or thing, you need a cumulative index. The link I inserted (below) directs researchers to a useful index.

http://speccol.msa.maryland.gov/NilesRegister/pages/NilesRegisterSearch.aspx

By the way, the Wikipedia article for Niles’ Register includes a political cartoon that is attributed to certain issues of Niles’ Register. However, the Register never included political cartoons -- or any illustrations.

I know more about Niles’ Register than anyone else in the world.

Per WP:EL, inline externa links should not be added. Your link would actually be welcomed in a "External Links" section at the bottom of the page. As for the cartoon, if you have access to any Niles' Register paper and could provide a scan of it (like at Daily Worker or National Police Gazette), that would greatly help the article's quality. Upload the scan to Wikimedia Commons here and tag it with this template.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 01:51, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

African American Art

I just placed information about an important, historic arts group in Pittsburgh, PA I am not certain why you consider it "inappropriate." This is the oldest African American women's arts group in the United States.

C. Bethea 412-596-6521 — Preceding unsigned comment added by History412 (talkcontribs) 17:38, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

@History412: You were reverted for placing the external link inside the article body, which is discouraged per WP:EL. Also, you need to find reliable sources to back up your claims and cite them as a footnote.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 17:41, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

I can understand that you are one of the Americans ashamed of the hords of ignorant Californians that have taken the control of the streets and that, problably, will take the control of the government soon... But the reality is that they have vandalized the statue of Cervantes believing he is a fascist (3 centuries before fascism was invented!!), while the majority of Californias agree from their homes, ignore who Cervantes was and what is fascism or are terrified by demonstrators.

Do you need references? Here some:

or just google — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.63.69.175 (talk) 17:16, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

You were reverted for not providing a single reference in the article. Also, there is no mention of fascism in any of the three links above.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 17:22, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
Not a single, but three.

You can continue saying the statue was not vandalized. The picture at the San Francisco Examiner (for example) is clear https://2zwmzkbocl625qdrf2qqqfok-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/21903853_web1_200620-sfe-statues_3.jpg The news is everywhere.

Denying the reality does not change History.

I am not disputing the fact that Cervantes' statue was vandalized. You were reverted (again) for claiming they were protesting against fascism when none of your sources say so.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 17:34, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

Blue Balliett changes

I am William Klein, Blue Balliett's husband. I made the following changes to Blue's main page, which you reversed. 1. Changed the URL for her website to reflect the fact that her site was converted to a secure https site this month. If this change is not made people will be delivered to the old site that is not secure. See https://www.blueballiettbooks.com/ 2. Added her latest book published in 2018, "Out of the Wild Night." See https://www.blueballiettbooks.com/wildnight.html 3. Added a sentence saying that she is published in 35 languages. See https://www.blueballiettbooks.com/foreign.html Please reinstate these changes. Thank you.

Also, what do I do to change her photograph?

I've restored #1 and #2. Please note that it is up to you to provide sources as per Wikipedia's verifiability policy, as I have done in the article. Every piece of information must be attributed to an independent, reliable source. I will not restore #3 because a brief search did not yield any independent sources that make that claim (primary sources are not independent and should not be used). To update her photo, upload a new image at Wikimedia Commons. After that is done, a button saying "Use this file" will appear above the image, and you can copy and paste that code in place of the current image. Remember to change the caption!   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 15:18, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
Please also familar yourself with Wikipedia's policy when it comes to conflict of interests, which seems to be the case here. In summary, be very careful to stay absolutely neutral in your writing tone.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 15:21, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for restoring #1 and #2. For #3, here is a source for the 35 languages change. See last sentence of third paragraph at https://www.scholastic.com/blueballiett/blueballiett_bio.htm. I'll try changing the photo and give you a shout it I run into trouble.

I'm sorry, but Scholastic is also not considered an independent source. I'm holding this statement to a higher sourcing standard because it could be used as self-promotion.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 15:48, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

Unfortunately Scholastic is the only reliable source for the number of foreign publishing contracts for Blue's books. No one but Scholastic can validate this information. Scholastic entered into individual publishing contracts with each of the following foreign publishers:

British / Chicken House

Bulgarian / Egmont Bulgaria

Catalan / Empuries; Group Editorial; Grupo Palenta Columna

Chinese, Simplified (mainland China) / Writers Publishing House

Chinese, Complex (Taiwan, excluding mainland China but including Hong Kong) / Global Kids Books

Croatian / Izvori

Czech / Albatros

Danish / Sesam

Dutch / Uitgeverij Vassallucci

French (excluding North America) / Nathan

German / Fischer Verlag; Aufbau Verlag

Greek / Modern Times

Hebrew / Matar

Hungarian / Bona Kiado

Icelandic / JPV Forlag

Indonesian / PT Mizan

Bahasa Indonesian / Mizan Pustaka

Italian / Mondadori Editore; Mondadori Education

Japanese / Sony Magazines; Village Books

Korean / Random House JoongAng

Norwegian / Schibsted Forlag

Polish / Egmont Polska

Portuguese, Brazil / Rocco

Portuguese, excluding Brazil / Presenca

Romanian / RAO

Russian / Ast Publishers

Serbian / Laguna

Slovak / Slovart

Slovenian / Zalozba

Spanish / Salamandra

Swedish / Egmont Richter

Taiwanese / Global Kids

Thai / Morningbooks

Turkish / Altin

Vietnamese / Innovative

WHAT ABOUT IT, GANBARUBY, IS THERE A WORK AROUND HERE?

Yes, there is a workaround: finding another reliable source that's not Scholastic. Just because it's true does not mean it belongs on Wikipedia; we can only add information based on reliable, independent sources. See Wikipedia:Independent sources for more info.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 01:33, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
