Speedy deletion of GemStones (rapper)
[edit]A tag has been placed on GemStones (rapper), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Peer Review
[edit]This article is highly comprehensive and provides adequate information regarding Gemstones. I had never heard of Gemstones before reading this article, but I now feel that I have a general understanding regarding the topic. I’m certain that other readers will feel the same. This article’s strengths reside in the relevancy of the information provided and the flow of the article. The article transitions smoothly from Gemstones’ birth to the release of his latest album. However, the article could benefit from citing sources. No sources are mentioned and this brings into question the reliability of the information presented. From the information in the article, it seems as if Gemstones would meet the notability requirements for music if only the information was documented. You could possibly find that a song that Gemstones has been on was featured on billboard.com’s singles charts or last.fm. This would add credibility to your article. The article does contain bias when it uses phrases such as “transformed into a socially conscious and more real music artist.” This statement would be more factual and less biased if examples were provided as to explain how Gemstones exemplifies these qualities. Also, including the dates of his TV appearances and the month/issues of his magazine articles would also be beneficial. The article could also be clearer on Gemstones’ transformation. This seems like it is a key point in his career and the article would improve as a whole by further addressing this transformation. --Projectpat11 (talk) 02:56, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
In my review of Gemstones I found that the piece was extremely interesting and thought provoking, but a few things could be changed so that the article would be even better. The article had some key strengths, but also a few weaknesses that need to be changed to improve the overall readability and effectiveness of the article. Additionally, a few questions that arose after I read the article will hopefully help the author produce an even better work. After reading the first couple of sentences it was obvious that the article has definitely been well researched and the author knows what they are talking about. The only drawback to this is that the author does not list any references for the information that is presented. Thus, the reader can’t ascertain where the author got the information from to create the Wikipedia page. Without any references listed, it is very hard to just take the author at his word and believe everything that he is saying about the rapper Gemstones is true. Another key strength is the layout of the article. The author decided to give information about Gemstones in a chronological manner beginning with his early life and continuing until the release of his debut album in early 2009. The author did a good job in talking about more than just what this rapper is currently doing by talking about his childhood and his early background and how he got into contact with Lupe Fiasco and subsequently into the music business. The information that the author used is extremely current as it talks about recent releases of Mixtapes that Gemstones has recorded. It also talks about the release of his debut album that is scheduled to hit the stores sometime this year. While the information is current, it is impossible to determine its accuracy based on the article because no references are actually listed. Also, the article’s tone seems to have some bias because all of the information presented seems to have a pro-Gemstones slant instead of just reporting on the events from an unbiased perspective. An example of this would be when the author notes that Gemstones was transformed into a “more real music artist”. Once the information is referenced, the article will be well on its way to being a reliable resource for finding out additional information about Gemstones. Also, a picture of the rapper would be a nice addition so the reader has a visual and can put a face with a name. The author might also think about highlighting information that he or she deems especially important. Some of the questions that arose after I read this article centered on the titles of the various mixtapes and albums. I think that it would be extremely helpful to have a picture of an album cover so that the audience knows the artist is legitimate. Also, by having an album cover, the author can avoid repeating the album name over and over, which is one of the things that I found redundant in the original piece. Peer Review Round 2
[edit]First of all, this is a very good article that is put together well. All of the information is relevant, current, and very interesting. I liked how you started with the artist's early life to give the readers background information and then talked about his career.
However, there are few things that could be improved on. For the most part, the article flows very well but a few sentences run on too long or could be phrased a bit better. This is rather minor, but fixing this would add to the professionalism of your article.
While your article seems to be well researched, listing references is much needed to give you credibility. This will also help clear you of possibly being biased in your praises of this artist. From reading your article, I do assume that you have references so just make sure to list them soon.
Also, I do realize that this is not a live article, but you can still format it like a Wikipedia article. Properly labeling your different sections would add so much to the look of the article. Better formatting would also make important facts stand out more. For instance, it is a little difficult to skim through all of the different titles and album names. Putting them in italics rather than quotations marks would help. A picture of the artist would also be a good touch since he is up and coming, and relatively unknown.
Overall, good job and good luck!
