Maps

If they have been replaced with better maps: fine. However, if they've just been removed from the articles by people for no adequate reason, then they want putting back rather than deleting from the internet forever. Morwen - Talk 12:59, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Libya Municipalites

Thank you for your enquiry, It was wrong of me not to give a reason for the deletes but yet the deletes are very valid. The reason I removed the images from the individual municipality pages is because the maps contained 26 municipalities whereas Libya now has 32 Image:Libya New Municipalities.png. It would just have been confusing for the readers if I left the old maps. If somebody wants to know the location of a particular municipality they can refer to the main Libya page. Hope it's not a problem Jaw101ie 18:02, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Quick image delete

Hey. I noticed that you're doing a lot of image work (lots of IFD nominations). I wanted to point quickimgdelete, a handy little javascript that speedies up the IFD process. You can copy the three scripts that you need from my monobook.js. Just post it in your monobook.js. In the toolbox, you can tage the images accordingly. Hbdragon88 21:00, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Use of logos in Betelgeuse incident

Hello, Fritz. I am currently involved in a dispute with two editors about the use of the Gulf Oil logo in the Betelgeuse incident article. It seems to me that this logo does not significantly contribute to the article, and thus fails the eighth point of the Wikipedia fair-use policy. The Total logo has just recently been added to the article, and though I haven't yet said anything about it, I think this image also adds nothing significant. I would appreciate your opinion on the matter; the discussion is ongoing at Image talk:Gulf.png. Thank you for your time. —Bkell (talk) 17:28, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

subst

Hey there. Just a real quick minor thing, I modified one of your edits to add a subst to a template that you'd added to a user talk page. Not a biggie but just wanted to let you know what I'd done and why I'd done it...! Cheers, Budgiekiller 20:22, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the deletion note, but the html...

Thanks for the note about an image that I uploaded or edited being deleted. One small note: there was no need to give your comment a special background colour, it was no more important than the comments of other wikipedians who edited my page. But thanks for the note anyway. Gronky 14:19, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I see now that the obnoxious html is part of a template, so I've left a comment there. Gronky 14:23, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Bot on stamps

Hi Fritz, Can you please run the bot on Category:Fair use stamp images? A lot of them are orphaned, as they have been removed from articles where fair use doesn't apply. Thanks. --Ragib 01:37, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the notice

Hi! I am working lately in the List of films and have uploaded only few missing images for film infoboxes and always care to tag them and state source. It is however the second time that another user finds an earlier original movie poster and swaps it. If I keep contributing missing images which then get orphaned, is there anyway to avoid getting messages in my talk page, or is it standard practice? Hoverfish 10:49, 15 October 2006 (UTC) By the way Image:TheMagicChristian.jpg has also been orphaned for the same reason, but it has not been tagged for deletion. Can you please tag it so? Crazy (Gnarls Barkley song)

It is not my responsibility to find the reference. If you want that included on the page then you need to find it yourself. I have added Crazy (Gnarls Barkley song) to my watchlist. KazakhPol 20:52, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

I have removed four references that were either broken or did not mention Barkley's Crazy. You may re-add the mention of Furtado covering the song as the reference currently listed as 13 supports that. Regards, KazakhPol 21:04, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
You need to stop trying to intimidate me. WP:BLP applies here, so those policies are moot. KazakhPol 16:55, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
I think you are misunderstanding... WP:BLP applies here because the unsourced claim that Billy Idol covered this song could easily be seen as a negative statement. The page in question does not have to be a biography for WP:BLP to apply. The page only needs to have unsourced, negative claims about a living invidual. Reference #20 still does not mention Billy Idol covering the song. I want you to either remove his name, point out where on the page currently referenced it mentions Crazy, or find a reference that shows Idol covered the song. KazakhPol 19:59, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. KazakhPol 00:59, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Image:Romy Schneider is Sissi

Dear Fritz,

For the benefit of those who do not speak German, I write this in English.

Thanks for your message concerning Image:Romy Schneider is Sissi.JPG. As you might guess from looking at my talk page (including the archived portions), I'm sick and tired of canned messages like the one you sent me: Ever since those tags were introduced, I have always carefully tried to state all the required details. It's just annoying having to read all sorts of things which just do not apply.

What happened is this:

(1) Only two days ago, some fool plays around with the Elizabeth of Bavaria page and—carelessly, unintentionally, on purpose, whatever—and while doing so removes a simple videotape cover (no problems copyright-wise whatsoever) from the page.

(2) You come along and, instead of reverting, say it is not used in any article, and tag it accordingly.

(3) You send me the message that "it has been tagged" (as if it hadn't been you yourself who tagged it) and that it will be deleted after seven days.

(4) I send you this reply and revert the last few edits.

By simply checking the Elizabeth of Bavaria edit history, you might have found out yourself, and doing so wouldn't have taken up more of your precious time than doing what you actually did. If I were on holiday just now, the image would be irrevocably lost. Quite a few images go down the drain that way, something which could easily be avoided.

By the way: It is "I have been a Wikipedian since ...", not "I am ...".

Best wishes, <KF> 22:52, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks again for your answer, which only shows me how dangerous Special:Unusedimages is. Apart from its being mysteriously titled "Unused files" and apart from the initial warning ("Other web sites may link to a file with a direct URL, and so may still be listed here despite being in active use"), the first random example I checked, Image:Zapata.JPG, uploaded ages ago by Infrogmation, after some checking of mine appears to be used after all—see Emiliano Zapata—though in a modified form (Image:Zapata.png). There, however, the contributor who modified it failed to mention the source ("photo of Emiliano and Euphemio Zapata, from early 1910s source"), so next someone will add a tag saying "no source" to the one and someone else will add a tag saying "not being used" to the other image, and both will be deleted. It only goes to show that anyone working from this list (whose point I fail to grasp in the first place) has to be very very careful. Best wishes, <KF> 16:35, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Image:Zach Braff.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Zach Braff.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Rossrs 03:52, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:EBOccupStamps1.jpg)

Thank you for your note. The image was removed by what I understand is called a bot, and I really didn't feel like fighting some sort of inanimate piece of code. I think the image is fair use and have attempted to describe it thus. I will put it back in, as you suggest, but if it is removed again I'm not going to fight. I have better things to do, like improving entries on things I know about. It seems to me that it would be good if there was some sort of editorial decision making in this sort of case, and I hope that you are that person. (Added later: it seems that Man Vyi has put it back in form me. Excellent) Best wishes. Ah1954 16:55, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Re:Unusual Question

Thanks for your reply. I am not 100% sure that it does, actually fail: "No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information.", since he isn't playing the instrument he is known for (i.e. "same information" is arguably not met: he's not playing the "right" instrument). Please note: I'm certainly not objecting to the image's deletion, just wondering whether an expanded article would have a rationale to include it some time in the future. This is an academic question, and i'd like very much to get your input. I certainly don't mind in the slightest that a commercial image is being deleted, in favor of an image that i took; and after all, it was I who removed the Fair Use image from the article in the first place. Not being a lawyer, I would still think that in an expanded article about Kevin Crawford, this image might be useful, at least until somebody photographs him playing the flute. Again, I'm not protesting the image's deletion, just trying to get your input on its possible inclusion in the future. Many thanks for your input! --Storkk 14:27, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Watermarking question

Most of the images 3dscience has been providing are large and expensive. How do you suggest we provide these high-quality images and not give the store away? We're open to any suggestions you might have, although water-marking is easy we might come across as being too promotional.

Thanks!

Crazy article

Hello! I added the songs "Crazy You" and "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince to the crazy article. I've noticed that you deleted them. Following the format of other wikipedia articles I've seen, I added a "See also" section since those songs have the word crazy in their title. As you could see I also added to this section the song "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears since the title of that song is not just the word "Crazy" as the songs listed in the "In Music" section of the article. In my opinion the "Crazy" article should be as it was before you deleted the "See also" section".

Please read the "See also" section of the Wikipedia: Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) MoS:DP. I would like to read your opinion about my point of view on the "See also" section of the "Crazy" article.

Thanks!

The image had been added to the article for The Out-of- Towners and then removed by someone simply because he preferred his image. I have added it back. However, when I uploaded it, I specified it was a video cover, and that info appears on the image's page. I was under the impression a video cover was an acceptable image . . . am I incorrect in thinking so? If so, why is it listed as one of the licensing options in the dropdown menu? Thanks! I am aware of WikiProject Films' style guidelines. However, isn't the clarity of the image also a concern? If a DVD cover image is sharper than that of the original film poster, wouldn't that take precedence? Thanks! SFTVLGUY2 15:09, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Richard & Mary Parker image

Hi. I wasn't quite sure how to go about providing the additional information needed RE: Image:Richard and Mary Parker UToSM-1 headshots.jpg. Comic-book covers are used all over Wikipedia, and there's a category for them in the image-upload pulldown menu -- which I'd thought I'd checked, but maybe I missed it. Anyway, the additional info:

These two images comprise much less than an entire comic-book cover -- they're just two cropped portions that directly illustrate Richard & Mary Parker for their entry in List of S.H.I.E.L.D. members. I'm not quite sure what I did wrong, and nothing in the provided links told me specifically why these two cropped images illustrating the characters' entry wouldn't fly. The day I uploaded the cropped images, I think there were some server glitches or a database lockup or something, and my uploads didn't appear to be uploading.

The image eventually used at List of S.H.I.E.L.D. members is actually titled Image:Richard and Mary Parker UTo-headshots2.jpg. Anything else can totally be deleted. My apologies for the mixup! --Tenebrae 22:25, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Delete

Yeah delete, the article was deleted too. We eventually started our own wiki, hosted by Media Wiki. [wikifoot.de.vu]. delete it Adam Wang 00:31, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Orwell1984Penguin.jpg)

Hi, the image was on an article, a gallery of book covers, but after discussion we agreed that the article should be deleted, which it has been done. You can delete this image as soon as you want. Regards, GiantSnowman 12:08, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I didn't know there was a template for this. AnonEMouse (squeak) 15:20, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
