Your feedback on Wikipedia: The Missing Manual

I saw your feedback on Wikipedia: The Missing Manual, and thought you might appreciate a response. I see that the nice people at the Teahouse have already given you an answer about language links.
Though the original printed book did include an index, the editable version here on Wikipedia does not have an index. For reading the book online you can use the search box on the table of contents page (right side) instead of an index. I can see that an index would be useful for people who order a printed copy or print it out themselves. Unfortunately, I can't think of a way to do this. The main problem is that we need page numbers to refer to pages in a printed copy, but the page numbers could be different depending on paper size, page margins, font size, etc. I'm also slightly worried that an index page would get out-of-date as editors make changes to the Missing Manual. If you have any ideas, please let me know or post your suggestions at Help talk:Wikipedia: The Missing Manual.
I'm a little surprised you had difficulty understanding "described in the next section". Though the word section does have a specific meaning on Wikipedia, I thought the phrase made sense with just the standard English meaning (a part or subdivision of a document). I've modified the page so the words "next section" link to the "How to Create Internal Links" heading, which I hope makes things clearer. If you have any suggestions for clearer wording, post to the page's talk page, post further feedback or let me know.
Thank you for raising the issue of language links. As far as I can see, they aren't mentioned anywhere in the Missing Manual, and I think they should be. I've made a note to add a section on them somewhere, which I'll probably do in the next few days.

Creating an autobiography is discouraged on Wikipedia. Editors who do so often run into trouble, because it is difficult to write about oneself in a way that is neutral and verifiable. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our guideline for articles about people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. [edit]Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Frédéric Y. Bois. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:
|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]
Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:
|image=SomeImage.jpg
.
There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption
. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits to Frédéric Y. Bois while logged out. Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow the use of both an account and an IP address by the same person in the same setting and doing so may result in your account being blocked from editing. [edit]External academic review and publication of Wikipedia pages
[edit]Hi Frederic. In case you'd not come across it before, I thought I'd message to ask whether there are any Wikipedia articles that you'd be interested in creating/updating/overhauling and submitting for external, academic peer review.
The WikiJournal of Science (www.wikijsci.org) couples the rigour of academic peer review with the extreme reach of the encyclopedia. For existing Wikipedia articles, it's a great way to get additional feedback from external experts. Peer-reviewed articles are dual-published both as standard academic PDFs, as well as having changes integrated back into Wikipedia. This improves the scientific accuracy of the encyclopedia, and rewards authors with citable, indexed publications. It also provides much greater reach than is normally achieved through traditional scholarly publishing.
Anyway, let me know whether you'd be interested in putting an article through academic peer review (either solo, or with a team of coauthors).
