Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

Hello FraserBryans,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Europris, may be copied from http://europris.org/index.html. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! CorenSearchBot (talk) 12:12, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Europris, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You may freely add information to the page that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 12:30, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Europris, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://europris.org/index.html. As a copyright violation, Europris appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Europris has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Europris and send an email with the message to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at Talk:Europris with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Europris.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. DES (talk) 16:10, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not keep creating Europris by copying text from their web page This is a copyright violation and such articles will be deleted promptly. Please restate the content in your own words, marking any quotes clearly as to their sources. Even if re-written to avoid copyright issues, you would need to make sure that the article is not promotional, ans that it demonstrates that the organization is notable, using citations from independent Reliable sources. More on Europris

[edit]

There are three basic problems with this article. It may be that each can be solved, however. Thery are:

  1. Copyright
  2. Promotion
  3. Notability
[edit]

as explained in detail in Wikipedia:Copyrights, wikipedia cannot and will not accept copyrighted content. All content posted on a web site will come under this requirement. Either the content must be rewritten so that it is not a direct copy or trivial paraphrase of the copyrighted content, or you must establish that the content has been freely released. To do this, send an email granting permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Note that this will give anyone in the world permission to use, reprint, and modify in any way the entire content. You can also post a notice on http://europris.org/index.html permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA license. This would have the same effect of permitting reuse by anyone.

Rewriting is probably the simplest alternative here.

Promotion

[edit]

Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion. An article that appears to be primarily intended to promote an organization will be rejected. Articles must be neutral, objective, verifiable and encyclopedic. The article should not be written like a press release about an organization.

Notability

[edit]

Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Wikipedia is not a directory of everything that exists in the world or has existed. This means that subjects of articles in wikipedia must be Notable. To be notable, an organization must have received non-trivial published coverage from independent reliable sources. This does not include an organization's own website or publications, nor does it include press releases. It also does not include passing mentions or appearances in lists or directories. The article should ideally include citations of reliable sources which establish notability.

Suggestion

[edit]

I suggest that you recreate your article in a user page, such as User:FraserBryans/Europris, attempting to deal with the problems I mentioned above (after reading the linked guideline pages). Then ask an administrator or experienced user to review your draft article and advise you. That will make the creation of a satisfactory article much more likely. You could also ask at the help desk.

I hope that you find this information helpful. Feel free to post on my talk page if you wish further information or clarification. DES (talk) 17:03, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
