Speedy deletion nomination of Data Driven Instruction
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Data Driven Instruction requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Feedback
[edit]It looks like you figured out the naming issue. One thing that still could use fixing is the lack of inline citations. If you aren’t sure how to do this, please see this page. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:36, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. I have reviewed the page, and have a follow-up question. Is the APA format that we used with references listed at the bottom and referred to in the text insufficient - should we also cite as per the page you referenced for those references with web links? Or, or you thinking about other places to cite? Francisredmon (talk) 20:09, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
- Inline references are the standard way that sources are cited in Wikipedia articles. If you use a non-standard format, over time, the page will end up a mixture of standard and non-standard references, which will make it messy and more difficult to maintain. It's also easy to end up with incomplete references. For example,
Quantitative and qualitative data is generally captured through two forms of assessments: formative and summative. Formative assessment is the information that is revealed and shared during instruction and is actionable by the teacher or student (Black & Wiliam, 1998). Paul Black and Dylan Wiliam offer examples of classroom assessment that is formative in nature, including student observations and discussions, understand pupils’ needs and challenges, and looking at student work (1998). Conversely, summative assessments are designed to determine whether or not a student can transfer their learning to new contexts, as well as for accountability purposes (1998). Formative assessment is the use of information made evident during instruction in order to improve student progress and performance. Summative assessments occur after teaching and learning occurred.
- While simply using a year is clear enough here (it isn't everywhere in that article) it can be completely obscured if someone inserts another sentence into that paragraph. If you used inline citations, the entire citation is included. If the first mention is removed, there are bots that can rescue the remainder of the reference. Bots can be designed to read reference tags fairly easily; getting them to recognize "(1998)" are a reference is much more difficult.
- Using reference templates means that, in the long run, people aren't bound to a single style. If the Wikipedia community decided to adopt a single style of referencing, it would be easy to change the way references are displayed, because reference templates capture information, not a specific citation style. Similarly, it should be possible to modify your display to show whatever style you want. That isn't possible when your references are formatted the way yours are.

@Ian (Wiki Ed): Thank you for the background information. I will start working on converting the references over the next few days. 00:30, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
@Ian (Wiki Ed): I have changed the citation stye to match the requirements. Hopefully that is all cleaned up, and the page is ready.Francisredmon (talk) 18:52, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
