Welcome back!
FoxyOrange, you are invited to the Teahouse
Hi FoxyOrange! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. |
A belated welcome!
Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, FoxyOrange. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Hello. I noticed that you made a huge contribution to the article with your recent edit. In case you didn't know, both <ref name="reference"/> and <ref name="reference"></ref> do the same job, but the former certainly saves space. Regards.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:49, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Planespotters not reliable
Hello. Regarding this edit, please note that Planespotters.net is not a reliable source. Regards.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:44, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Ok. You might be correct, but could you please elaborate why? According to the Wikipedia search engine, the term "planespotters.net" can be found on nearly 600 distinct pages. Which source do you propose to be used instead? --FoxyOrange (talk) 21:50, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Don't know what source to use, but using a non-reliable one does not solve the problem at all. If no reliable sources are available to back anything up, then it might be good choice not to add that stuff.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:55, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
You are partly right
Thank you for the good advice. I agree that votes are not everything. Still it seems like a mess and I just first thought that people with much experienc who have seen similar situations could help with supportive editorial policy comments. So :In general, it is perfectly acceptable to notify other editors of ongoing discussions, provided that it is done with the intent to improve the quality of the discussion by broadening participation to more fully achieve consensus, (WP:CANVASS). --JamboQueen (talk) 12:59, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
CY purge spree
CY have not announced flight/route cancellations, nor have they said that they'll be shutting down 27 Oct (i.e. the end of the summer season). Pending an official PR from CY, the changes you've made are premature. — Lfdder (talk) 18:10, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- But there has been a government statement. Cyprus Airways, as a state-owned company, is fully controlled by the government. --FoxyOrange (talk) 18:47, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Talks are ongoing, see "Cyprus Airways Union rejects restructuring proposal". Also, nowhere does it say in your source that they'll be shutting down then; all it says is that the company "will be kept alive through the summer season" and that they're trying to find a "buyer-strategic investor", i.e. they'll try to rescue the airline. It seems to me that nothing is concrete. — Lfdder (talk) 19:11, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- I think differently. The facts are: CY only survives on the mercy of the government. Currently, that mean until the end of October. Concerning anything beyond that point: that's just pure speculation. --FoxyOrange (talk) 20:30, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- No, what _you_ are doing is speculation. Unless the company announces it's shutting down, then you should not claim that it is in an encyclopedia. — Lfdder (talk) 20:41, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Capital Cargo
I see you are going through a bunch of airports deleting Capital Cargo as being defunct. You are correct but per references I just put on the Capital Cargo article, it was absorbed by its sister company Air Transport International. It would require more research but I wouldn't be surprised if the cargo operations to those airports are now just handled under a different name.Americasroof (talk) 12:06, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ok. Thanks for pointing this out, I had not been aware of the source you have just provided. --FoxyOrange (talk) 12:08, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- As I nose around ATI's website they describe themselves as a charter operation. The parent has been having some financial troubles so it wouldn't surprise me they're out of the scheduled cargo business. There's certainly nothing on the website indicating it's ongoing. Good work!Americasroof (talk) 18:41, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Southern Kentucky Classics
Hello FoxyOrange,
I understand your reasons for nominating Southern Kentucky Classics for speedy deletion due to lack of importance. I'm not sure that I'll be able to quickly provide reason of importance in time to prevent deletion.
My question is: If the page is deleted at this time, can it be re-opened at a later date when I can add more substance of importance to it?

Speedy deletion nomination of Fydell House, Boston
Hi there, Author of the Fydell House article marked for deletion.
The other source is ours too. I am a trustee of fydell house centre (a registered charity) and am updating our website and attempting to get more info on the house and it's residents.
I thought I'd copy what I've got so far onto wikipedia so you guys have an entry.
That info is pretty standard for us and we have it in various sources.
My full name is Daniel Elkington if you want to check the charities commission register. I'm also one of the admins of the fydell house centre website www.fydellhouse.org
Hopefully this will help you to change your mind.
I will be adding more in future to make it look a bit more wikipedia - ish.
How do you add those info boxes to the top right of the page. That's something I'd like to put on... — Preceding unsigned comment added by DanElkington (talk • contribs) 09:58, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Dan, please be aware that the only reason why I asked for having the newly created article about Fydell House deleted is because of a copyright problem. On the first glance, the subject itself seems to be noteworthy enough for having a Wikipedia article. Please have a look at the copyright policy at Wikipedia, and note that there is the possibility to "donate" copyrighted material. Also, as a Wikipedia newbee, you might want to check out the Wikipedia tutorial. Best regards--FoxyOrange (talk) 10:11, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
Coordinated Multipoint
Hi, you left a message fo speedily deletion of my article Coordinated multipoint. But this page should not be speedily deleted because...LTE Coordinated Multipoint is essentially a range of different techniques that enable the dynamic coordination of transmission and reception. Various techniques are being researched under IEEE as well as Bell Labs. I am working on to put more insight about the technique. Just give me time to make it a complete article. Feel free to ask me more questions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaushikahmed (talk • contribs) 08:46, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- Dear Kaushikahmed, please note the reason why your article was deleted: The subject itself might be notable, but your writing did not have a neutral point of view, and read like an advertisment. Maybe you want to have a look at the relevant guideline, and maybe at the manual of style. Best regards--FoxyOrange (talk) 09:32, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Help needed: How to upload a photo?
Dear Wikipedia
I tried to upload in my article about the painter and stage designer Yiannis Poulakas his photo (File: Ioannis Poulakas 1937.jpg) without success. I suppose because none of the preset of you categories about copyrights includes my case.
This photograph of the artist, is a family heirloom that has come into my possession from my father as the painter is my great grandfather. Also nowhere in the photo there is the name of the photographer or his studio and the date of the shooting. Testimonials of my father led me to the conclusion that must be created between 1935 and 1939.
What should I do in order to publicize this photo in my article in wikipedia?M.poulakis (talk) 07:39, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Dear M.poulakis, where did you try to upload the file? At Wikimedia Commons or at Wikipedia? For both uoload engines, there are experts that can assist you better than I am able to: The Commons Help Desk or Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. I hope this helps.--FoxyOrange (talk) 08:42, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Planespotters.net
Hi again FoxyOrange. Cool that you got a DYK for Lufthansa Flight 615. I just wanted to let you know that I've removed Planespotters.net as a support for the fleet table at Libyan Airlines, as it's not a reliable source. Sp33dyphil (talk · contribs) and I had a discussion regarding the inclusion of this source and aerotransport.org, and s(he) pointed out that the inclusion of ch-aviation is more suitable, as this one seems to be more professional (I'm actually in the process of replacing aerotransport for ch-aviation in many articles). Please let me know what you think. Cheers.--Jetstreamer Talk 16:35, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, no offense taken. I am under the impression that there is not really any (reliability) difference between planespotters, airfleets and ch-aviation, though. I cannot see why an (alleged) more professional "look" should be used as an argument in such a question. Personally, I prefer planespotters, as no conscription is needed, and seating configurations are displayed, too (as you have removed this source, the configs for the A320 of Libyan Airlines are now unreferenced, btw). Because all three websites are ubiquitiously used as sources for Wikipedia articles, one could argue that their reliability is established by normal editing consensus.--FoxyOrange (talk) 16:45, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, I have to add that I really should not have chosen to add that source: You had already caught me once before and said that it is likely not reliable. Compared to your great work, I tend to be quite sloppy with my referencing (though I'd say that I did quite a good job at Lufthansa Flight 615). Unfortunately, news articles about airlines usually only deal with a recent order or delivery, and do not give an overview of the whole fleet.--FoxyOrange (talk) 16:54, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Notifying you is the appropriate. Hope you don't mind me inviting people into this discussion (I already did with Sp33dyphil). As with hijackings, maybe it's time for raising this matter at WT:AIRLINE too. In the meantime, MilborneOne (talk · contribs)'s opinion will be appreciated. I'll be watching.--Jetstreamer Talk 17:00, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Aerologic cargo
Please familiarize yourself with the latest requirement for cargo destinations at Wikipedia:AIRPORT-CONTENT#Body. You need a proof it is a cargo flight. DHL/Aerologic network map offers no such evidence and doesn't even indicate a direction or stops. Most of your additions should be removed. HkCaGu (talk) 16:52, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Dear HkCaGu, thanks for your comment. As I have been absent from Wikipedia during 2012, I seem to have lost track about how to list cargo destinations. I will study that guideline now. Anyways, I can't really understand why the (in my opinion properly sourced) statement "AeroLogic operates cargo flights on behalf of Lufthansa Cargo to Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles Houston and Toronto" would not be allowed for destination listings. Best regards--FoxyOrange (talk) 17:08, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- I can only see "AeroLogic serves" which has ambiguous meanings. Is it really a cargo flight? Why isn't it found on LH Cargo's schedule? Does it fly XXX-FRA nonstop? These are the things that we now ask to prevent the unlimited proliferation of listings that have plagued many airports' articles. HkCaGu (talk) 17:17, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Logo and house crest of Central African Airways
Am I correct in thinking you removed the CAA house crest and changed the logo color to black?
If so, the roundel was always Oxford Blue and the house crest was equal to the logo in importance on the aircraft (crest on nose and roundel on tail).
My knowledge is based on my being the draughtsman for the airline and I did the original livery drawings.
Tnuag (talk) 07:10, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Dear Tnuag, this has already been discussed at Talk:Central African Airways. Please refer to Wikipedia:Verifiability with the policy that "even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it." I was unsure about the actual color of the logo. There are differently colored versions, which is why I chose to use the (neutral) black-amd-white one. If indeed the official logo was Oxford Blue, then the file can be changed/reverted accordingly, as long as it is backed by a reliable source (the same applies for the alleged importance of the house crest). I have no doubt that you are kind of an expert about Central African Airways, which I appreciate very much. Please note, though, that by Wikipedia standards, your personal knowledge is not sufficient. Best regards.--FoxyOrange (talk) 08:11, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

- First of all, please note that per WP:V, any content added to Wikipedia must be verifiable. That means, a reference to an external kind of work must be provided. Then, do I get you right that you wrote the article about Total Air on behalf of someone else? Still, as editor, it is your obligation to add the necessary sources to prove that this company exists at all (the two weblinks currently used as "references" simply do not work).--FoxyOrange (talk) 15:11, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Substing templates
Hi! I just wanted to leave you a quick reminder. When using certain templates (such as welcome templates and user warnings) on talk pages, don't forget to substitute them by adding subst: to the front template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. The article Merkel-Raute has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This subject is related to Angela Merkel, no extra article needed. The day when the election is over nobody will talk about this subject anymore. The content (or parts of it) should be copied to Angela Merkel and this one should be deleted.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Supermohi (talk) 04:29, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Toll Aviation
Hi Foxy Orange. Can you please help me with the Toll_Aviation page? I originally thought that it would make sense to merge it into the Toll_Global_Express page. I now think that this is the wrong thing to do. I have a good understanding of corporate structures and what constitutes a stand alone legal entity. I thought that Toll Avation was no more than a "brand name" and that it made no sense to have a Wikipedia page for such a trivial item. I have had a closer look and it does have an ICAO airline designator as well as a "Callsign". Is this enough to justify having a Wikipedia page in the eyes of the airline/aircraft community? If so then should we keep the page and continue to keep it updated? In contrast there is a page called Toll_Priority. The words "Toll Priority" are only a brand name (they don't appear to be trademarked). The opening line of the article is "Toll Priority is a logistics company and cargo airline....". Is that true? If it was a real airline presumably it would have an ICAO airline designator as well as a "Callsign" etc. There is very little information on this page. Should any useful information on this page be merged onto either the Toll_Aviation page or the Toll_Global_Express page? I am working on the theory that the fewer the pages the easier it is for the community to keep them accurate and up-to date. Your input would be appreciated. Disambiguation link notification for December 5
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Karlslust dance hall fire, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Christian Democratic Union (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

RE: (West) German Chancellor
I'm well aware of both the history of FRG/GDR and the title in question. I originally wrote 'Chancellor of Germany' in order to be consistent with other uses across Wikipedia - both Brandt and Adenauer are referred to on their respective pages as Chancellors of Germany, not West Germany. I believe the nationality column of the list sufficiently clarifies the situation for anyone who may not understand this usage. If you still believe this should be changed I will be happy to discuss alternative wordings. - HIGHFIELDS (TALK • UPLOADS) 18:44, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Karlslust dance hall fire
On 12 December 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Karlslust dance hall fire, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that German firefighters arrived late to the Karlslust dance hall fire in Allied-occupied Berlin partly because of the 40 km/h (25 mph) speed limit? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Karlslust dance hall fire. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
