Is there a best way to cite unpublished physical works that are in my local libary's collection? I have a number of these on the Six Moon Hill page I have been editing Fothergilla (talk) 14:52, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Could you elaborate on what you mean? What sort of potential source(s) do you have? Primefac (talk) 16:00, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a best way to cite unpublished physical works that are in my local libary's collection? An example from a current page I am editing is "Moon Hill Memories: 50th Anniversary. Cary Memorial Library: LEX ROOM 974.44L H628mhm: Unpublished pamphlet. June 14, 1997" Does this meet Wikipedia standards? Thanks Primefac for previous response — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fothergilla (talkcontribs) 23:43, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In general an unpublished work cannot be cited as a reference on Wikipedia. If you are seeking to cite an unpublished document, it almost certainly means you are engaged in original research, something we, as Wikipedia editors, should not do.
Still, providing enough information about a document that would allow a sufficiently interested reader to locate it in the library's archive is a good practice and you should follow it when you write up your findings to post somewhere that allows such research. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:42, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am looking for the proper format for citing a video lecture which has been posted (by a reputable source) on YouTube. The templates dropdown I see only has web, book, journal, news none of which includes all of the fields that are needed. Ideally there would be a place to document minutes into the video where the statement I am referencing is made. If there is a way to add additional templates to my dropdown I'd be interested in a pointer to that too. Fothergilla (talk) 15:46, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Citing sources, Template:Cite AV media. Hope this helps. — Maile (talk) 18:18, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I believe you are looking for {{Cite AV media}}. If you're ever looking for a specific template, every cite X template has a full list of available citation templates. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 18:19, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Fothergilla: does {{Cite AV media}} work for you? -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 18:24, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments @Primefac. @Asartea I think Cite AV media should work. The thing I was looking for was a way to denote the number of minutes into the recorded presentation where the referenced content occurs in the media. Do you believe that's what the parameter "time" means? Fothergilla (talk) 14:08, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
