La Salle Institute

Hello Five Years. I was wondering why you deleted the whole college acceptances section of the La Salle Institute page. This took a lot of time and helps to show the accomplishments of the students. Njnetsrock15 (talk) 21:43, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Category talk:Schools in Georgia (U.S. state)

Thank you for the edit to Category talk:Schools in Georgia (U.S. state) Did not realize that I was using a redirect template. Looks like I have a lot of pages to correct as I have been using it as a cut and paste template. Dbiel (Talk) 19:11, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Looks like you have already fixed them. Thank you Dbiel (Talk) 19:16, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you, Five Years, for what I'll take to be a supportive comment. Looking around over the past few weeks, I've come to realize that, while User:Diligent Terrier appears to take great joy in threatening other users for their ostensible violation of Wikipedia rules, his interpretation of said rules is often at odds with other, more civil, editors. Would you be able to provide me with the location of anything on a policy or guideline page that supports what you've told me on my page regarding Rollback? Thanks. Unschool (talk) 04:01, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Keeping it cool

I'm sure that, coming in at this point, I appear to be rather hot-headed. In point of fact, I remained calm and collected in the face of DT's ridiculous accusations for quite some time (over a month). It is upsetting to me to realize that I have been driven to the point where I appear to another editor to have lost my cool. But you know, if a person receives multiple blows passively, and then after repeated blows finally gets a head of steam and strikes his assailant, are they equally at fault?

Nonetheless, yours is wise counsel. You are doubtless correct about it being a waste of time; DT is either unwilling or incapable of carrying on a civil discussion of differences, and thus there is no point in continuing. But I feel a loss; I have had many an intense discussion (over more substantive matters) on Wikipedia, with editors who argued their points fiercely, but at the end—whether we reached resolution or not—I have always felt that we had been able to honestly and respectfully discuss our differences. That is all I ever wanted from DT, and I guess that's never going to happen.

Thanks for the advice. I'll heed it. Unschool (talk) 04:15, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

(forgive my rudeness) "DT is either unwilling or incapable of carrying on a civil discussion of differences" Incapable? Just because DT does not wish to continue with a pointless discussion does not mean he is not capable of doing so. I would advise you to strike that portion of your comment. RC-0722 361.0/1 04:42, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
I have posted my "official" retirement from my debate with User:Diligent Terrier on my talk page. I thought about putting it on DT's page, where he'd be more likely to see it, but I thought that that might be considered inflammatory (you know, trying to get in the last word, etc.) I'm just telling you this in case he engages you in the discussion, you can tell him that I'm out, and that (per your advice), I'm not posting to his talk page.
Thanks one more time for your advice; I'm feeling better about Wikipedia than I have in weeks. This matter had really soured me and my editing had dissipated to little more than this stupid debate. Unschool (talk) 04:49, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 23:13, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

What is the benefit of using the getting rid of the subpages and just adding the info to the main page? I'll revert all my edits if you'll just explain your rationale for doing so. Some of the subpages have important history info that can't be found anywhere else. (see the members page for example) - Diligent Terrier (and friends) 23:01, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Greetings Five Years!

Thank you for taking the time to rate this article. In addition to doing some major reworking of school articles, I have been getting ready to look at doing assessment myself, and as a final step, I started asking to get some articles assessed so I could "see how it is done", so to speak. Could you explain your reasoning for giving this a "Start" rating? It had been rated start by other projects when it was an utter mess, which is not to say that I have necessarily met something above "Start", but another article I recently worked on was rated "nearly a B", and I think had far less than this article (Notre Dame High School for Boys).

Please, don't take this as criticism .... all I am asking is for insight into why you rated this article the way you did.

Thanks for your time! LonelyBeacon (talk) 16:15, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Wesley College Insititue for Innovation in Education.

Hi Five Years,

Just wanted to hear your thoughts on starting a new article for the Wesley College Institute for Innovation in Education. From my understanding it is not really a "school" however it is related about educating educators.

http://www.wesleycollege.net/wciNews.cfm

Just needed some advice. Thank You!

Sheepunderscore (talk) 05:49, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I think a separate article is probably more suitable, so if you don't mind can you please give a hand in starting it.

Cheers Sheepunderscore (talk) 09:13, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School

When you set WPSchools project class to B for article Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, did you review the article or simply match the class from the other projects? I personally can not see this article as being B class. If I were grading it, it would be high start or low C. I am interested in hearing what your thoughts on the subject are. Keep in mind that I am no expert in grading articles. Dbiel (Talk) 02:09, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply Dbiel (Talk) 15:18, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Updating WPSchool templates

When you are setting the class value on the WPSchool template, is there some reason you are not also setting the importance value? see diff Dbiel (Talk) 22:24, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

I only do class ratings to help reduce the backlog of 1200+ articles. Once there is no longer a backlog, i do intend on assessing for importance. Five Years 15:53, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Seems like the hard way to me, but to each there own. For most articles it is actually easier to determine the importance (which generally is low) than to determine the class. Thanks for the reply. Dbiel (Talk) 19:11, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Mira Mesa Senior High School

I am confused by your class rateing of Mira Mesa Senior High School as start class. It does have an info box, it is very short and does not have any notable references. My main reason for posting is to better understand the rating system. I am going to re-rate it as stub and set the importance to mid due to the notable alumni and relationship to so cal fires. Feel free to revert my change if you think my logic is wrong. Dbiel (Talk) 17:03, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

It is probably a border-line case. What tipped the scales for me is that it had fragments of information on athletics, alumni and performing arts, and that it mentioned some of the key facts about the article, that it was a blue ribbon school. Stub is fine by me, although im not so sure about Mid. Five Years 17:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I am still having a hard time getting a grasp on the minimum standards for "mid" Dbiel (Talk) 20:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Just look for extraordinary stuff. Eg, it was rated as a top 50 school in America or it has extensive alumni, eg. a decent number of prominant people. Five Years 10:17, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. It expands the low category and raised the minimum for mid from what I had previously thought. Dbiel (Talk) 21:17, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Hiya Five! I'm trying to determine if I have a chance to rate articles, so before I start doing that, I've been spending time looking at articles and figuring out how I would rate them compared to their given rating.

I saw that you rated this article a "B", and I am trying to pick your brain a little bit to see what I am missing. From my personal take: there were only two inline citations, and aside from those, three or four other references. There were a number of fact tags in the article for needed referencing, and a big fat trivia section (which I know is pretty much not something that we want).

I really haven't done anything on this article (I think I did some anti-vandal work a long time ago) ... but as a "trainee", I would appreciate the insight from a more experienced editor. Thanks for your time! LonelyBeacon (talk) 17:08, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Question

I've found the edu tag on several unrelated articles. Are you adding them for a reason? What type of article falls under your project scope? Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 03:09, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

The scope of WP:EIA is spelt out clearly on the projects main page. If youre talking about something completely different, please tell me. Five Years 14:24, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikibreak, Wikivacation, Wikiretirement

Hey, dude, this has gone past the stage of "Wikibreak", and is solidly into "Extended Wikivacation". I envy you being able to pull away and all. I just hope that you don't slip into "Wikiretirement", for your common sense is a valuable commodity. Unschool 09:01, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Ah its a semi-retirement of sorts. I wont be contributing here much, as ive moved into the next phase of my life, which is unfortunate. My time here was very enjoyable. Will keep in touch from time to time. Thanks for the kind words. Five Years 12:30, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, personally I believe that Wikaddiction is too powerful for any 12-step program, let alone that retirement shit. When you need your fix, you'll know where to go. Unschool 09:27, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Removal from PR Volunteer List

Due to extremely low editing in the project and your notice that you are on a long wikibreak, you have been removed from the list of available editors at Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers. This is done to ensure those seeking volunteers are only directed to active editors who can respond relatively quickly to requests. If you decide to return to editing Wikipedia, feel free to readd your name to this list. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 02:45, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Course listing removed from Thanetcollege page

Just a query as to why the available course listing has been removed from the Thanet_College page. I ask as this edit brings the page inline with other colleges in Kent E.G:

Help:Reviewing Article

Dear Five Years, as you are a member of WikiProject Schools; I would like you to request to review the article Dhaka Residential Model College. I have nominated the article for WP:Good article status. After the assessment of this school article, I have made further improvement of this article and this article has gone massive editing by me. So could you please re-assess the artile? If you think the article is eligible enough for WP:GA status then please list it on the good articles. Please inform your thoughts on my talk page. Thanks, Tanweer Morshed (talk) 11:22, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

GA reassessment of Aquinas College, Perth

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found some concerns with the article which you can see at Talk:Aquinas College, Perth/GA1. I have placed the article on hold whilst these are fixed. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 19:19, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
