Adoption

I hear you are adopting. It’s funny to think of myself as being 'adopted'. I'm in my twenties. HA! I spend a lot of time in Wikipedia digging into really controversial items. These items range from abortion to immigration. I do a lot of religious, political, intellectual, and personal research. I really like mathematics and physics.

To summarize, I would like to give some of my knowledge back to Wikipedia, and thought someone with a little more wiki experience and computer experience might be able to throw me pointers.

Right. That's it. InfiniteCenturion (talk) 00:13, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest in adopting me. As my new 'legal guardian' you might be well informed that I might be making a stink in a sensitive area. In the 'discussion' area under the DYK Archive topic you'll find a 'Scientology' debate going on with me at the heart of it. I wouldn't mind if you weighed in and offered some advice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by InfiniteCenturion (talkcontribs) 06:01, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Warwickshire

Bot seems to be doing more that unassessed class articles. Stop and rethink. This was the agreed category Category:Unassessed WikiProject Warwickshire articles. Has it worked recursively through all the cats and subcats?. Do not start WP Coventry without further discussion. Snowman (talk) 18:57, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for confirming the bots errors on my talk page. I think that it would be best to undo the run it just did. Snowman (talk) 19:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps it was not the bot. In the way the project categories are set out there might be something missing with the project cats. Can you check the category structure? Snowman (talk) 20:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

So Richard, I've been reviewing your work, and think I'd like to take you on as a coachee. Start by creating at page at User:Richard0612/AC. WikiProject Neurology

Hi there, the page is now as wikilinked as it'll ever be so I was wondering if you could place the WikiProject Neurology tag on all articles linked from that page? The page can be found here: WP:NEURO-LOA Thanks! :) Regards, CycloneNimrodTalk?Sign? 20:59, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Richard, Steve Crossin has applied the template to all the pages in Diagnoses last night so that no longer needs doing, but thanks anyway. Is there any chance you could do the same thing for every artice under Neurological anatomy? Also, is there any way that the 'importance' parameter can be filled in as '=mid' and the class is auto-assessed based on any other ratings? Thanks! Regards, CycloneNimrodTalk? 09:04, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks. Great help! :) Regards, CycloneNimrodTalk? 10:53, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

You asked for a trout if anyone disagreed, but since I only partially disagreed I'm giving you fish and chips instead (Enjoy!). I agree with the edit, especially given the clear consensus forming at the MfD, but using server load as a justification goes against Wikipedia:Don't worry about performance (until a sysadmin chimes in, anyway). I've adjusted the text to use length/pointlessness as a justification instead. Anomie 02:33, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

The redirect meta-template is on the air

After weeks of running around doing things in real life, and various Wikipedia chores, I finally got around to resolving one of the last major problems I'd been having with my redirect template idea, and have posted the result, called, unconfusingly enough, This is a redirect. You get plenty of credit for the original format. Although I figure you probably wouldn't do this, I do ask that you not modify it to include those built-in parameters you had been suggesting before (but any tune-ups are fine). Thanks for your help, and let me know if you have any other questions or ideas! Lenoxus " * " 20:49, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

 • OK, well, I'm not sure I agree about ambox, because plenty of redirects are in the project and template namespaces… but that's trivial. The real reason I bugged you just now is that I had a question your template-fu might help with… Lenoxus " * " 04:44, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Question

I have a question for you about more template work and a custom module. But, I really want to be able to start to do this by myself; I hate bothering people every time I can't figure something else. (Like right now). I was wondering where you learned to so well code from. Is there a book or website you went to to study and practice? It'll be my luck you probably learned all of this during some college course getting a degree; that means lots of work for me! hehe Anyways, your help is greatly appreciated and I thank you very much for all you have done. Thanks §hep¡Talk to me! 04:25, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like you started waayy ahead of me. All I could do at 10 was some basic HTML stuff, geez. Thanks! §hep¡Talk to me! 17:29, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Userfication and templates

Greetings. I see we might both be working on the same issue with templates - userfication. I've written two templates in my sandbox similar to your userfy template. (I'm also working on javascript-based template management tool which calls them.) I wanted to see if we could could coordinate a bit on the issue. Thanks. --Thetrick (talk) 14:57, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

 • Both of you, feel free to let me know if you ever need any administrative assistance in your userfication quest. Personal single-use templates are a pet peeve of mine also. –xenocidic (talk) 14:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
(Re [2]) Yep, that's fine. Even better would be to put them on a sandbox page temporarily and point me to it so I can use a batch-delete feature. –xenocidic (talk) 15:07, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
 • I think the thing to do is get a list of templates that are called only from the user namespace. The query tool you pointed me to doesn't look quite that sophisticated. I got a list of uncat templates from Toolserver. They should be able to handle sophisticated requests. We could then post sections in one person's userpage, and work through it. I'd say we should request a move of each first, then go back in a few weeks and forcibly move any remaining ones. Who knows, the users may do most of the work. We could also pick one of our little subst templates that has the best wording, and use that. --Thetrick (talk) 15:17, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Related issue - I'm working on categorizing userboxes (its the easiest group to deal with because the category tree is shallow) along with other bits of my uncat list. Are you following any pattern? I'm through about capital C on this list. If you work behind me you'll carry over any categories I add. If you have some other pattern in mind, carry on! --Thetrick (talk) 01:29, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Heads up and update - I still haven't gotten the list of templates yet, though someone finally responded to my request. Also, a bunch of personalized user welcome templates were recently nominated at TfD. --Thetrick (talk) 00:02, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Tagging of userfied templates

Please remember to wrap the db tag in <noinclude>…</noinclude> when you place it on a Template: page. Otherwise, tagging of a page whose transclusions have not been fully updated causes all pages that still transclude it to be tagged for deletion. DMacks (talk) 21:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Userbox migration

It might be advisable to try to repatriate them to the original creator if they are active. I'll leave a template below that I was using when I was working on this gig. –xenocidic (talk) 21:47, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

=={}== Per userbox migration, a userbox you created ({}) needs to be userfied. Would you like to migrate the userbox into your userspace? If you're not sure how, let me know and I'll take care of it. If you'd rather not have it under your userspace, I can adopt it into mine. Please let me know on my talk page. Cheers,

When I was working on it, I would ask anyone who had editing in the last 60 days and give them about 48 hours to respond. The reason I suggested this is because certain people who were very active in UBM back when it was "all the rage" received a lot of hate for perceived "theft of userboxen" (WP:OWN notwithstanding). –xenocidic (talk) 21:53, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Certainly - go for it. I was doing UBM as well until I had this conversation and found out no one really cared that much about userboxen in the template space anymore. I just kept a sandbox page "pending response" "pending update of transclusion" etc. best of luck, –xenocidic (talk) 22:01, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Any spare bot capacity? / Classical Music Project

Hi. Stepshep told me about you and explained that you are running the same programme. He's being helping the Classical Music Project with bannering, however the work has been tough (!) and I'm wondering whether it might be a good idea to have a second bot going on it. Can you possibly let me know if your bot might be available? Thanks and regards. --Kleinzach 03:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Richard. Classical Music Project is a large, rambling project that covers all classical music articles, specifically all those not included by the other classical music projects (Composers, Contemporary Music and Opera). About 4,000 articles are now bannered and categorized in Category:WikiProject Classical music articles. This is probably less than half of all relevant pages. (The banner itself is fine and can be used as it is.)
I've done a list of all the decent looking Classical music categories here. I've marked those which have already been bannered - essentially the Conductors cats.
When you are ready to do a run we could start with 'Countries', 'Festivals' and 'Lists' (sections 4,5,6) - just the categories listed not ones linked to them - which are quite short. After that I'll check that there are no problems and we can move to some bigger batches.
One important thing: we need to filter out Talk pages that have Composers, Contemporary music and Opera Project banners as these should not have Classical Music banners.
We'd also like to have auto stub-classing of pages with stub templates - but that can be done later. Best. --Kleinzach 07:21, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. That's right, nothing in subcategories - only the categories listed in Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical music/Categories (sections 4,5,6). (Many subcats are likely to be outside the scope of the project). --Kleinzach 15:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I've done a spot check on Section 4 and I've found the bot is missing some articles (The Glenn Gould School in Category:Classical music in Canada, Aldeburgh Festival in Category:Classical music in England and Besançon International Music Festival in Category:Classical music in France - all now bannered). I've tried to detect a pattern to it but couldn't work it out. (Actually I found Shepbot did something similar.) I also found one repeat banner at Talk:Henry Joseph Wood (left as is). Any ideas? Best. --Kleinzach 23:48, 2 July 2008 (UTC) P.S. I'm in Japan - hence time differences. --Kleinzach 23:48, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Re missing articles, it couldn't be the plugin could it? A similar thing happened with ShepBot and that used the plugin as well. Anyway let's go ahead with sect. 5/6. --Kleinzach 06:01, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Sections 5 and 6 looked good. Can we continue with Sections 7, 8, 9, 10 (Media, Musical eras, Schools, Miscellaneous)? They can all be done as one batch. Thanks. --Kleinzach 00:04, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Just about finished checking sections 7, 8, 9, 10 - all look great. Many thanks. --Kleinzach 15:01, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Richard, I don't know whether you feel like doing any more? If so - and whenever you have time - we could do Classical_musician_by_instrument which is section 1.1. Best --Kleinzach 14:18, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. If you have time can we do Classical_musician_by_nationality which is section 1.3. This should be the big one! Best --Kleinzach 05:28, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. The last section is Classical_musician_by_genre section 1.2 - about 240 articles. I had given it to ShepStep but he's been offline for the past couple of days so I wonder if you can do it? I'll cancel my request to him. --Kleinzach 02:06, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Many thanks. That means we've finished - except for automatically rating as stub class those articles that have stub templates. But that can wait. In any case I'm going to be a away for the next couple of weeks. All the best. --Kleinzach 23:31, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for approving me. Some of the information in the guide is confusing me, and I have a question. The guide says that Wikipedia administrators should create a second, non-admin account in order to check the activity of accounts to which a requested account is similar. Couldn't I just check the logs and contributions of the account that the requested account is too similar to? I don't see why the second account is necessary.--Danaman5 (talk) 16:53, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Push Mail

Hi,

Can you please explain why Renzoo was removed from the push mail section? The reason given is promotional content and test link. I can't see why the entry was any different than for MoMail for example.

Many thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Palmizana (talkcontribs) 13:57, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Auto stub rating / Classical Music Project

Hi. I got back a couple of days ago. How are you? Busy? StepBot seems to be out of operation and I'm wondering whether you would have time to do some more work for the Classical Music project. The next stage is to automatically rate stub-tagged articles as stub-class on the banners. It would probably be best to do a test batch first, but then we could run through all the articles. Best. --Kleinzach 00:46, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Auto assessment

Hi Richard, I have been trying to do Auto assessment (based on ratings by other project banners) with the find and replace option in AWB for pretty long time and still I couldnt develop a good one yet. I then accidently jumped into User_talk:Stepshep/Archive_4#Wikiproject_templates and found it to be better option. Do you mind me using this code with my bot till I learn to use to making module myself ? -- Tinu Cherian - 06:49, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Music projects

Hi. I see the busy sign is off. Any chance you might be ale to help with some music projects runs? We've got a couple of jobs that still need doing if you have a little spare time. Best. --Kleinzach 04:23, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. The first job is for the Classical Music project. Would it be possible to automatically rate stub-tagged articles as stub-class on the banners? There are 8,667 items in Category:Unassessed Classical music articles. It would probably be best to do a test batch first, but then we could run through all the articles. --Kleinzach 21:49, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I assume I can check the sample at [Bot0612 special contributions]. I'll get on with that now. --Kleinzach 01:59, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Richard, based on the sample there are a couple of problems. (1) the 'Classical' stub cats are not 'clean' - they haven't been checked and they weren't used for the bannering. The bot is apparently adding Classical music banners to talk pages which don't have them, e.g. Siegfried Idyll. Unfortunately there are probably many pages with Classical stubs that are outside the scope of the Classical music project. So can we please ignore all pages that don't already have the Classical banner? (I was assuming that we would run through the bannered pages and rate as stub class all those with stubs - irrespective of type. Perhaps there is a problem doing this?) (2) Also, the project is not doing 'importance' so we don't want the '|importance=' parameter in the code if possible. (I am not sure whether it was added during the previous bot runs. Some pages seem to have it and some don't.) Thanks again. --Kleinzach 07:07, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. That sounds good, however what happens if a page has a stub other than the four listed ones (on the project page)? For example, there are the conductor/bandleader stubs such as UK-conductor-stub. I expect there will be a lot of pages involved and quite a few stub types, (though it's worth noting in passing that many pages using the different stub types will be for popular music). --Kleinzach 19:52, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Followup: I've been looking at the stubs, see Classical music stubs. As you will see there are over 20 or them but I think the total is more likely to be around 40 or 50, because there are so many country-based ones. Hope this clarifies our problem to some extent! --Kleinzach 09:00, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your message, and yes, let's go ahead on the basis you suggest. We can see how many of the unassessed articles we're able to cover. Perhaps we can do another 50-odd articles in a test run first? --Kleinzach 22:43, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
I've checked the sample and it looks fine. What do you want to do next? Maybe finish all the 'classical' stubs? That would be fine by me - or perhaps you prefer another process? Thanks. --Kleinzach 05:26, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Please see Classical music stubs for the range of stubs involved here. Best. --Kleinzach 22:53, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Need Review Help

I am looking to create a new article for Abaca Technology Corp, an anti-spam provider. I do in fact work with the company. I was told that the best way to get some info is to get adopted or consult with some experienced folks.

Would definitely appreciate some help/feedback/comments or some direction. And hopefully get this posted

Can you adopt me?

Draft on my user page

Thanks in advance

Autoassessment code bug

Hi there, remember I was reusing your code for autoassessment. There is a bug I couldnt solve, ( like this ) When there is , it adds the new class without removing the old empty |class=| like . Is there a way to fix this ? I tried but couldnt fix it , can you help ?

The bug of it not removing the old class= is cause it wasnt designed to.. Reedy 10:22, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
:P I know..I tried to fix it but didnt work out. Btw this is the current code I am using . Reedy, can you help plzz -- Tinu Cherian - 10:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject tagging

Hi Richard0612,
Earlier this week I created WikiProject Magazines, after I noticed a large number of magazine article stubs not grouped into a particular WikiProject. Now that I've created the WikiProject all that is left is for these articles to be tagged with WikiProject Magazines. I noticed that your bot (Bot0612) is an 'auto-assessor of articles' and a 'WikiProject tagger'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your bot seems to be the perfect one for the job. Let me now if you're interested in helping out. Thanks, αЯβιτЯαЯιŁΨθ (talk) 22:22, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Arbitrarily , Looks like Richard is busy in real life and havent edited for over a month. If Richard couldnot help in another 2-3 days, please drop a note on my talk page. TinucherianBot may be able to help you out with the same task , if Richard is busy. Thanks to kind Richard , he had also shared the auto assessment code with my bot. -- Tinu Cherian - 04:47, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
