Hangon
Any update on the javascript solution? There's no hurry but I think it would be really good. By the way, any idea how to fix this?--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:13, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- Right now, the version I had worked fine, but I'm not sure if the javascript used is up to "standards", if you know what I mean. However, Eraserhead (talk · contribs) was working on another, less complex-code version, but I think there were some issues to fix, still. I'm by no means a javascript expert or professional programmer, so if I were you, I'd ask someone familiar with adding things to MediaWiki:Common.js (check the page history and see which user(s) frequently updates it), ask them to see User:Fetchcomms/hangon.js, and see if they think it's acceptable to enable as site-wide js. Otherwise, I'd check in with Eraserhead to see if he's been able to get his script working a bit more. Cheers, /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 21:44, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Barnstarbob
You had written recently here, in reference to Barnstarbob, that the next time this user called someone an ass, he would be blocked. Here is a relevant recent diff.842U (talk) 11:32, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
- Replied at his talk page. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 15:27, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
- He is at it again with a massive tirade (diff showing the worst of it, but suggest you look at the whole sequence to see the same abuse/redaction pattern). He is also badgering people in the RFC, canvassing via talk pages etc. Please follow through on your promise! --Biker Biker (talk) 07:18, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- b.t.w. I know I should assume good faith, but contributions by 69.14.207.132 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) in the RFC sure look like sockpuppetry to me. --Biker Biker (talk) 17:26, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Doubt it, unless he moved to Michigan and forgot to update his user page. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 17:32, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Good point. Anyway, thanks for stepping in. I also think extending the RFC as you did is a good idea. I tried to encourage him to get involved and to discuss things, and hoped he would do so in a rational manner, but his responses at the RFC last night which included the exact same arguments as before don't lead me to think much will be different. I live in hope.... --Biker Biker (talk) 17:52, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Question
Since you consider it a "widespread issue", what is your exact take on the issue and what do you think is the proper way to go about fixing it? SilverserenC 02:31, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry—I meant I don't think it's a widespread issue. I've clarified this at the VP. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 03:41, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Barnstarbob
Hello. I understand why you blocked Barnstarbob, but I am concerned because he is actively (and, at times, inappropriately) involved in the RfC at Talk:Chevrolet Vega. Would it be appropriate for us to keep the RfC open long enough for this block to expire, so he can get his final comments in before the RfC closes? Your guidance would be appreciated. Ebikeguy (talk) 17:36, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I thought about that, and I was actually just in the process of adding a note about that to his talk page. Can you add a note to the RfC saying it should be extended a week (or until after Barnstarbob is unblocked, whichever scenario happens)? In the meantime, he's free to make non-disparaging comments at his talk page, which you, I, or any other user should feel free to copy to the Vega RfC. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 17:40, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Note added to Talk:Chevrolet Vega. I'll keep an eye on his page and transfer any appropriate comments to the RfC discussion. Thanks for your help. Ebikeguy (talk) 17:51, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Barnstarbob's block expired and the protection on the article just expired. Despite there being an RFC in progress he has removed large amounts of content from the criticism section of the article - justifying his actions by saying this has all been discussed, when clearly the RFC process if not finished. Plus he is still shouting diff. --Biker Biker (talk) 08:42, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

I've been watching RFP/A for a bit, and have added another criteria check to make sure the user is active, as you've been denying a fair few. If a user doesn't get filtered for activity, then be sure to add them at the opt-out page for future runs. Thanks, Noom talk stalk 23:07, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Chattanooga State Article (revised)
Several librarians at Chattanooga State Community College have participated in editing and documenting an article about the college. The article can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1b4orNxMtzIch2Uy6ZmdJhgfYEBWQGoZ1uXpCfuCsG0s
Please let me know if the article meets Wikipedia's standards and if it is permissible for us to put it on Wikipedia.
Thanks for your guidance and review.
Vicky102510 (talk) 13:59, 23 May 2011 (UTC)Vicky
- Hi Vicky, the revised version looks great! A few suggestions:
- "the College" and "Student Life" do not need to be capitalized.
- Don't mention the addresses of each site in the article—that type of information is usually considered too trivial to include in a general-reference encyclopedia.
- I'm confused as to why certain things are quoted, such as “The Tennessee legislature officially recognized the merger in July 1983”. This could be reworded so quotes aren't necessary (In July 1983, the Tennessee General Assembly recognized the schools' merger ...).
- Also, maybe it is just a problem with Google Docs, but I saw some end quotation marks but there was no mark to show where the quotation began (e.g., ... mission.”[26]—but there's no opening quotation mark, only the closing one after "mission").
- For the items listed right after "Over its forty-five year history, the College has achieved many significant milestones:", it's probably better to incorporate that information into the rest of the prose rather than presenting it as a list.
- There are still some little adjectives that make the article seem a little biased, such as "significant milestones", "customized support", "unique campus-based school for bright students who seek a wide range of educational experiences", "engaging and dynamic campus culture", "many opportunities[how many?]", "intensive two-year experience". However, if something's uniqueness is explained—such as with the Volkswagen program—then using "unique partnership" would make sense.
- Overall, there's been amazing improvement and it's wonderful that a group of people have been working together to produce this. I think posting it will be fine once the above suggestions are addressed. Best, /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 23:49, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
WP:USPP Spring Assessment 3
hi Fetchcomms,
Thanks for helping with assessment! There is a new assessment posted here. There are 25 articles in both this assessment and the next/final assessment. There was a huge amount of content that got added this term, hopefully the randomly selected articles will show it to be high quality. You should see some results form the assessments in the coming months. ARoth (Public Policy Initiative) (talk) 19:42, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

While most "this pornstar's real name is . . ." type edits don't pick out a specific person, this one gives a name and high school, and is therefore a specific identification, with no evidence of correctness. Thanks. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 21:49, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Citygarden
On 29 May 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Citygarden, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the US$30 million development of Citygarden (pictured), an urban park and sculpture garden in St. Louis, Missouri, was funded solely by a local nonprofit organization? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

WikiCup 2011 May newsletter
We're half way through round 3 of the 2011 WikiCup. There are currently 32 remaining in the competition, but only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Casliber (submissions), of pool D, is our overall leader with nearly 200 points, while pools A, B and C are led by Racepacket (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions) and Canada Hky (submissions) respectively. The score required to reach the next round is 35, though this will no doubt go up significantly as the round progresses. We have a good number of high scorers, but also a considerable number who are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. Also, an important note concerning nominations at featured article candidates: if you are nominating content for which you intend to claim WikiCup points, please make this clear in the nomination statement so that the FAC director and his delegates are aware of the fact.
A running total of claims can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 23:26, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
