If you want your article Education Angel not to be deleted from wikipedia, please add reliable sources as soon as possible.Deb (talk) 17:13, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi Deb, you are fast indeed, I am working on the references, thank you for the advice! Ferromario (talk) 18:05, 16 June 2013 (UTC) Mario Hi Deb, I have just added references to the Education Angel voice, will continue improve it over time, please let me know if this work for you or if you have other suggestions. Thanks! Mario Ferromario (talk) 18:09, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- You left a message in the archive of my Talk page, instead of on the current Talk page. If you modelled an article on Acumen Fund, then you must have noticed that the page was tagged as being promotional and not having the references it needed - so why did you model a new article on that? Do you have independent references to demonstrate the notability of Wedu fund? Deb (talk) 18:10, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi Deb, Thank you for this super fast response, I am a bit of a new user so please forgive some mistake due to inexperience, I am catching up as fast as I can! This is a reference I would like to add to Wedu Fund
- - http://www.cue.org.uk/2012/06/14/the-cue-business-creation-competition-2012-winners-are-here/ to certify that it is Social Enterprise startup of 2012 at Cambridge University (the leading UK university)
- - http://www.womendeliver.org/updates/entry/women-deliver-announces-winners-of-the-global-solutions-awards as winner (3rd place) of the Global Solution Award 2013 of Women Deliver, the host of the largest conference in the world on issue related to women and girls, recognizing business models with the impact of addressing major problems for women and girls all over the world. Wedu's cause is education.
- - a mention on the Acumen Fund blog http://acumen.org/blog/our-world/wedu-the-new-venture-of-a-former-fellow/
- - another more recent mention on the Acumen fund blog http://acumen.org/blog/our-world/wedu-the-adventure-continues/ and we have another one upcoming
- - a preview picture from Girl's Globe of an upcoming interview with a Wedu community member https://www.facebook.com/girlsglobe/posts/655228354503041. Girl's Globe is a leading blog for girl's empowerment, partnering with the Nike Foundation (I am girl project) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
- - the first web-radio interview http://www.globalchangemakers.org.uk/podcast/wedu-fund/
Wedu's first global ambassador is Jacqueline Novogratz, here she is on the front page of Forbes few months back. http://blogs-images.forbes.com/helencoster/files/2011/11/Novogratz.cover_.photo_1.jpg
More references will be posted in the coming weeks as the articles came out. Winning the Global Solution Award was a big deal Wedu is getting a lot of interviews including the NY Times (upcoming).
I hope this helps. Any other advice or question? I am here with the genuine intent of answering all your questions. Thank you! Ferromario (talk) 18:39, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- Also, the sources you added to Education angel don't refer to the term or support its existence. Where did you see this term and who uses it? That is what we want references for. Deb (talk) 18:13, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi Deb, the first ever use of the term is from Wedu indeed, you will find the second use in the wecast mentioned above (point 6 of previous reply) and in the upcoming article on the NY Times. The reference I have added are to other organizations to whom the concept is applicable and it is a demonstration of the firm motivation not to create a promotion page, but a genuine neutral description of a concept.
I am here for any other question and thank you for your help Ferromario (talk) 18:39, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- References 3, 4 and 5 are inadmissible because they are blogs. The other three look okay. However, what you say about the "Education angel" concept suggests that it's a neologism and thus does not meet the criteria for a wikipedia article. I'll move Wedu into a sandbox for you. Deb (talk) 09:16, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi Deb, thank you for this reply, can I ask you a couple of questions about: 1- Do i understand correctly that I can prepare the entry for Wedu fund in the sandbox and then republish it? 2- And if so do I have to wait any specific action from you or can I start now just following the link you gave me?
Thank you again, I really appreciate you taking the time for helping me understanding better how this all works. Ferromario (talk) 11:29, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- I have uploaded it here for you to work on.Deb (talk) 11:58, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Dear Deb, I used the page you created here and worked on the page and then uploaded it on the other page you passed me Wedu and now other users are coming and deleting the entry including the JetBlast below and another one I didn't take note of. Did i do anything wrong? Thank you Deb. Ferromario (talk) 18:39, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Wedu
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Wedu, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. JetBlast (talk) 17:46, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi JetBlast, I just had a long conversation with Deb about the content of this page after she already deleted it yesterday and I explained why it should stay providing supporting evidence and she agreed that it can stay. I would like to kindly ask you not to delete the page again. Thank you Ferromario (talk) 17:52, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Actually I said that you need to improve it before you recreate it. I would also recommend that you read Wikipedia:NPOV tutorial, which other people seem to find helpful.Deb (talk) 21:13, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you Deb, from the original version I have learnt how to do the proper referencing and added the one shared with you. The next step it to connect the articles with other articles and I will keep updating the references over time as more become available. Thank you for sharing that tutorial page, it is helpful. If at any time there is a critical specific piece of improvement that you would advice me to implement (like the referencing) please do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you again for your help and have a good day. PS. I am based in Bangkok (UTC+7) so at times it may take me a bit to reply, because of the timezone difference. Ferromario (talk) 04:38, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Dear Jimfbleak I have already been discussing this matter with (see the talk on my user:ferromario) and I am implementing the advices about Wedu one by one as they are risen. So far, I have so far found really helpful when an editor suggests a change before deleting an entry because that gives time to correct or improve the entry. So far I have found the approach of both Deb and JetBlast very helpful.
I understand that you are working in the interest of the community trying to be productive and effective. Your advice on the referencing is really helpful. I cannot implement it now since the page is deleted. Would you please reopen it and I will be happy to implement your suggestions. Thank you.
All the best Ferromario (talk) 07:53, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Just thought i would let you know i am not the one who deletes the articles. I just nominate them for a speedy delete. The final decision is with any admin. Thanks --JetBlast (talk) 09:50, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi JetBlast, yes I realised that, in fact I was mentioning that I believe the approach of suggesting how to change an entry before deleting is very useful in developing the skills of the community. Thank you! Ferromario (talk) 12:22, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- I would recommend you keep the draft article in your user space until you have had it reviewed. I would suggest you use the Wikipedia:Articles for creation process to get a second opinion on your work.Deb (talk) 11:12, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Good advice Deb, good point! Does this mean that editors will also check pages kept in the workspace to give opinions, or should I explicitly ask for one? Thank you! Ferromario (talk) 12:22, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Wedu
[edit]Hi, thanks for message
- You are correct that you need to provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines, but that is not the main reason for deletion.
- it was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Some examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: catalyses the next generation of female leaders... inspiring mentorship... with strong leadership potential... inspiring mentorship... — these may be aims, but they are presented as fact. It's basically just promotional material for an organisation that I assume you are associated with.
- it's all about what the organisation does or claims to do, little else factual. Where is it based? How is it funded? Who runs it? How many employees?
Has it ever received negative publicity? The lack of factual information just reinforces the impression that this article is to promote the organisation rather than be a factual encyclopaedia article. I'll shortly post the deleted text here. If you want me to have a look before you repost, I'm happy to do so. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:35, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you Jimfbleak, this is very helpful! Will work on improving the entry and ask for an opinion before reinstatement. I have been reading different suggestions on how to make it proper, but please do keep sharing more material if you think it is useful. Best Ferromario (talk) 12:22, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Wedu logo vertical.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Wedu logo vertical.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 05:11, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
