Northern Mariana Islands footballers

Hi Fenix down. I see that you are creating a series on Northern Mariana Islands footballers. Please, be so kind: instead of using the template {{stub}}, use the template {{NorthernMarianas-footy-bio-stub}}. Regards, --Fadesga (talk) 17:10, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for that, it was AWB putting them in there, I presumed as there were v few articles on them that there was no specific stub. Will use in future. Fenix down (talk) 17:11, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Fenix. I am in the process of completing this enormous task of expanding the information of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers' club. I was going to respond to you when I was done so you can value the entire endeavor as a whole. Kindly allow me to finish (I should be done within the next few days). Then we can sit down in a very friendly way and discuss everything. Cheers. Sincerely NYCWikiKid (talk) 16:42, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Fenix, you're right - NYCWikiKid is displaying OWNership issues with these articles and it's very concerning. I have already warned him about editing against consensus by creating duplicate categories (i.e all the ones that are heading towards deletion at CFD) - but he just deleted my message with no response. If he continues then I will block. As for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers' template, I suggest you take it to the talk page - at least then we can demonstrate you have attempted to discuss the matter with him in a public venue. If he continues with this behaviour then we may have to block him. GiantSnowman 09:00, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
I'll repost the message I left on his talk page on the template talk page. Fenix down (talk) 10:19, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Gibraltarian football biography stubs

Hi there. I try to respect other peoples opinion without putting too much effort in trying to "convince" other editors that disagree with me. But in this case, I want to let you know that I believe your vote in this CfD contradicts the guideline for stub-templates. Mentoz86 (talk) 09:33, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

No problem mate, perfectly reasonable point, have changed my vote accordingly. Fenix down (talk) 10:24, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Russian Far East articles

Hi, thanks for your message. I've really only been doing this as I started by working on articles on the Baikal Amur Mainline and Amur Yakutsk Mainline and found that most of the towns they passed through weren't covered! So it's snowballed from there. Most of my article are only bare bones at this point though.

Thanks AaronRichard (talk) 08:33, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

  • Regards the additions to the tables that you've added, my source was just that I've been translating from the Sakha (Yakut) and Russian-language wiki articles. I haven't looked directly at the source, but compare with Анабарский улус on the Russian wiki (I'm guessing you can read at least a little Russian?)

I don't know how you managed that after all these years :), but for some reason your edits were not showing as autopatrolled. I've granted you the autopatrol right so others wouldn't have to spend time reviewing your perfectly fine edits, but if for whatever reason your preference is not to have that right, please let me know and I can easily revoke it. Contested prods

I contested your prods of the Tajik and Malta foreign footballer lists. Endorsed the other two per your reasoning given in the prods their, but the Tajik and Malta ones seem to have at least some independent notability as a list. If you want to take them to WP:AFD I don't feel particularly strongly about it, but I thought that going through prod might not be the best way. Thanks for your work! Recent afd's

First, I'd like to thank you for your support in the afd's involving Nfitz. You seem to be the main person replying to his comments. I'd like to suggest that you stop, though. It's gotten to a point were he either doesn't realise he's being uncivil or doesn't care (see my comment to his talk page and his response on mine to see what I mean). I fear that further responses will simply wind him up event more, and may even provoke him to causing more trouble. On top of that, most of his comments have become so far removed the articles in question that replying is not worthwhile, in my opinion. Any sensible admin will recognise them for what they are. Under these circumstances, I think the best solution is to just walk away. Cheers. Sir Sputnik (talk) 03:04, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

I think you're right seeing his latest round of comments I'm not sure whether he is just confused or doing it deliberately now since he is claiming someone only redirected FOOTYN to NFOOTY in the last couple of days when it has been like that for nearly two years and the discussion is just getting ridiculous. Fenix down (talk) 08:58, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Should lists of notable players be deleted or tagged?

Have provided a response at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:GiantSnowman#Should_lists_of_notable_players_be_deleted_or_tagged_.3F (League Octopus 19:24, 20 January 2014 (UTC))

I thank you for responding FD as it helps me to avoid wasting valuable time. With the exception of Palloiluseura Apollo just delete the lists and let us forget the matter. I have updated the entries for Alan Waddle and Mark Miller. League Octopus 14:30, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
That's alright. I hope you didn't take from this that I am against all forms of such lists, only those which contravene the manual of style by having no inclusion criteria or simply list those players with WP articles. Feel free to add lists for players who have played x games / scored y goals / etc. There is no consensus as to what constitutes a clear inclusion criterion as long as it is something like that. Blackburn United FC

I have absolutley no conflict of interest in editing the Blackburn United FC wiki page, I am merely trying to add fact and detail to the page to provide further information to any potential reader. There is no benefit in this to me and I'm surprised you might infer that there is. However, I am grateful that you have no issue with me ading such detail, although I wasn't aware I need permission to do so - I have added what you seem to believe needs to be included but I would have thought that the brief summary of each notable player would have been explanation enough as to why they had been included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 20.133.0.8 (talk) 10:23, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

I wasn't trying to suggest that you did, merely that there are some people who think that nobody with any connection to an article should edit such articles, so it is good to be aware of this in case. I also wasn't suggesting that you needed any form of permission to make any edit on WP at all. Fenix down (talk) 10:39, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Recent afd's

Regarding your comment in User talk:Fenix down/Archive_3#Recent afd's. You violated WP:FAITH. My comments were that WP:FOOTY referenced WP:FOOTYN and not WP:NFOOTY. This wasn't fixed until January 13, 2014 (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football&diff=590541955&oldid=590199446) only a few days before your comment, and not two years ago. I was using WP:FOOTYN in good faith, based on what was then listed at WP:FOOTY. Since that oversight in WP:FOOTY was pointed out to me, and fixed, I have been using the current standard. Nfitz (talk) 19:37, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

  • @Nfitz:. First of all this comment is just weird, have you been trawling through my talk page archive, looking for something to try to pull me up on,?!? that brief thread is over three month's old. Secondly, have you actually looked at the link? Yes the wording of the link on the WP:FOOTY main page was changed, but the sub-page to which it pointed was not. As you can see from this diff the page discussing notability was changed to indicate WP:NFOOTY on the WP:Notability (sports) had superceded WP:FOOTYN back in April 2012, now nearly two years ago. As such and as I thought was clear to al users, FOOTYN was superceded in early 2012, this was updated at the relevant notability sub-page and the link on the main page continued to point to the correct place showing the correct notability guidelines. There was no WP:FAITH issue, you simply made a mistake. Fenix down (talk) 19:47, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
Actually I was looking for a comment I'd made about an A.D. Isidro Metapán player a few weeks ago using the search term 'nfitz isidro', and about the only hit I found was on your talk page (a red herring, as you'd both been discussing me, and San Isidro in a separate thread on the same page) - but that led me to notice your comment about me. I found the comment in all innocence ... I don't tend to troll talk pages. Yes, there was text I didn't notice at the time at the top of the page. I noted my error in one of the AfD discussions at the time ... I'd scrolled down to the criteria further down, without reading the header. Having at the time not participated in a relevant AfD for sometime, I simply went to WP:FOOTY and found WP:FOOTYN listed under notabilty, rather than WP:NFOOTY, and then applied it, failing to note the disclaimer at the top. Once notified that it was out-of-date, I switched to WP:NFOOTY. It was an innocent and honest mistake. However, you seemed to be expressing doubt in my statement that the change had only just been made, rather than two years ago, so I thought I should clarify that, and provide the diff showing the (then) recent change. Nfitz (talk) 20:02, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
PS, turns out the comment I was looking for, was about a C.D. Águila not a A.D. Isidro Metapán player ... which was difficult to find, given I'd mis-spelled Aguila as Aguilla in the comment I was looking for :) Nfitz (talk) 20:12, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
And your diff showed a change on the main project page that merely clarified the notability criteria that were already in existence, it did not change from saying NFOOTY was replaced by FOOTYN. The change you referred to was purely presentational and had nothing to do with updating notability criteria. Fenix down (talk) 08:36, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
I never said it did. Merely that it WP:FOOTY referenced NFOOTY instead of FOOTYN, and that I hadn't spotted the disclaimer at NFOOTY, leading to my confusion. Nfitz (talk) 01:58, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

I just found out that Dele Alampasu is also a National Honour recipient by the president, as stated here, Could that also be a yardstick for notability? Darreg (talk) 07:31, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Am sorry for doing this to your talkpage, I don't want to go to AFD page directly but tell me what you think about this, Here is a biographical article on the subject. Here is a comprehensive interview with the subject by an independent source and here contains a press statement from FIFA inviting him to Zurich for an event. Darreg (talk) 07:39, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
No problem coming to the talk page! I think the three sources you cite in your second post are good examples of GNG. I can't see in the first article where he has a national honour, do you have the right link? I would advise you to update the article with these sources in and then post on the AfD page what you have done linking to these sources and explaining what they are as you have done above. you may wish to use the {{ping|User Name}} template to draw the attention of others who have currently voted delete. To my mind these are good examples for GNG. Fenix down (talk) 11:33, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks I would do just that. Darreg (talk) 07:21, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Naoussa F.C.

Hello there, thank you for the notification, I'd like to inform you that all the players mentioned as notable to Naoussa F.C. article are consider to be notable as they are some of the greatest players in Greek football as well as they all come from her academies. All of them also contributed to Naoussa's greatest football achievement that it is promotion to Superleague Greece during the 1993-94 season. Also these notable players were taken by the Greek article of Wikipedia.

If there's anything wrong with that and the players still can't be included as notable for them team, then I'm sorry for the disturb.

Kind regards, PanosBonJovi (talk) 15:34, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Fatma Sultan

Hi! Actually, I didn't write the material, another user named, Ines029, created page Fatma Sultan which I turned to a disambiguation page, because we have many Fatma Sultans in Ottoman history and it's confusing. So I created an article named Fatma Sultan (daughter of Suleiman I) and added the same material. I think you made a mistake, because it's not biography of a living person. She died about 440 years ago! So I don't have any idea that it should have source or not. Keivan.fTalk 12:53, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi, just letting you know that I have removed the CSD tag you placed at Tourism in Visakhapatnam as I intend to improve it rightaway. Cheers, ƬheStrikeΣagle sorties 15:09, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Megino-Kangalassky District, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mayya (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of Jabre Capital Partners S.A

Hello,

Thanks for your comment. I’ve added a comment to justify the creation on this page. I know I’ve not put a lot of content right now, so I understand your decision. I definitely can make it better. In the meantime, I’ll update the CEO page with relevant information, if that’s alright. Let me know your thoughts on this! review

what does it mean if my page was marked as reviewed by you? — Preceding unsigned comment added by NickGibson3900 (talkcontribs) 02:25, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

@NickGibson3900: It just means that someone has looked at the page through new page patrol and confirmed that there hard no problems with it in terms of notability or copyright that would suggest a need for deletion or anything else majorly wrong that requires attention. It is however not a stamp assuring notability nor an indication of the quality of an article, just an administrative task. Fenix down (talk) 06:31, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Focus T25

Hi Fenix, I just logged in and saw your message about the Focus T25 page. I tried to write it as non-promotional as possible. I've been getting into different exercise regiments and thought it would be helpful for someone looking for more information about the program. If you could let me know what you found objectionable I would be happy to update it. Thanks, alvb — Preceding undated comment added 19:59, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

The following message was posted to my talk page, but I'm pretty sure it was intended for you. Cheers. Sir Sputnik (talk) 22:34, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

I unprodded Ibrahim Hassan (footballer, born 1990). Perhaps I'm missing something, but lots of evidence he's played for Ismaily SC including a relatively recent photo - [1]. Nfitz (talk) 22:28, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
@Nfitz: thanks for spotting this, I overlooked the ref when I was going through page curation and only saw no appearances in the infobox. Looks fine to me, the article just needs a bit more clarity from the references. Fenix down (talk) 08:52, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

The references that are secondary have add nothing to the article (e.g. Brzezinski's book) and the primary sources seem very unreliable. The way it is written, I think the article was made by fan-boys of the movement. Thought I'd make an administrator aware of that. --Llehsadam (talk) 14:24, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

@Llehsadam: Hi, sorry I overlooked this. Probably should let you know that I am not an admin, just someone who is interested in Russian places! I'm not an expert on this area, though I would probably say the subject is notable, it is certainly something that as an entity, albeit unofficial, has received quite a lot of news coverage where I live, though I am not really able to comment on the reliability of the sources. If you want a more helpfult response (!) I would suggest posting a message on the talk page of Ezhiki, the guy in the talkback box directly below this message. He is an admin and also has a seemingly limitless knowledge on the Russian administrative division framework, so would probably be able to provide some guidance. Urban-type settlements worksheet

OK, I tried to make an Excel spreadsheet into something usable by a person unfamiliar with the database structure (i.e., you :)), but there's just too damn much stuff there that needs explaining. So I tried another approach and created this list. It includes all urban-type settlements (UTS) by federal subject. The left column contains a direct wikilink to the UTS name—that's where the article should be located when the name is truly unique (no other localities with this same name exist in Russia or anywhere else in the world and no other things exist which are known by this name). The right column links to a UTS name disambiguated using rules under bullet 1 in WP:NC:CITY#Russia; i.e., other localities in Russia which are named the same are taken into consideration. The links in the right column may still be ambiguous with non-Russian places or other concepts, though.

A few problems I've noticed:

  • The database treats letters "е" (ye/e) and "ё" (yo) the same. This is for a variety of reasons, the main being that the registries are hopelessly inconsistent and there is no one good source which can be used to determine which spelling uses which letter (well, that's not entirely true, but the procedures I have in place to address this problem are not ready for showtime yet). So far Wikipedia articles with letter "ё" are using the "yo" transliteration only when a source exists which specifically elaborates on this distinction (or where a ru-wiki entry uses "ё", although I've found the hard way this may be too big of a leap of faith to make).
  • Some resulting links, when disambiguated fully and properly, result in truly monstrous results (Urdoma in Arkhangelsk Oblast and Dubrovka in Bryansk Oblast come to mind). While there is nothing that can be done for some of these entries (bar arbitrarily deciding which one is "more primary" and can thus be shortened—a terrible practice), others can in fact be simplified, and others yet may indeed be primary meanings. Also, some jurisdictions (such as Slobodskoy District in Kirov Oblast) may have places with the same name as the UTS, but located in selsoviets. Such places would have to be disambiguated as "PlaceName, XXX Selsoviet, Slobodskoy District, Kirov Oblast", but this also results in the clashing UTS name to use the urban-type settlement division name as a disambiguator where selsoviet name is used for the rural localities (if I've just confused you, just look at the Vakhrushi entry to see what I mean). Those can usually be shortened to "PlaceName, XXX District, FederalSubjectName" or may even be changed to "PlaceName (urban-type settlement)" form, but the exact solution usually needs to be researched separately for each individual case.
  • Entries disambiguated by type use the disambiguator corresponding to the English term of the UTS type. Oftentimes this is too specific and may be replaced with either a "(urban-type settlement)" or "(settlement)" for simplicity. The latter is used for the federal subjects which recognize settlements as urban localities but do not use the term "urban-type settlement".

As always, do not hesitate to let me know if you run into any problems or have any questions (and I have a feeling you'll have plenty of both in the initial stages!). Thank you again to agreeing to help with this! You have no idea how easier it will be to greenlight other perpetually delayed things once this is taken care of. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); June 6, 2014; 17:46 (UTC)

Thanks for the files and also for this set of instructions. I was wondering whether you could provide some step by step instructions for an example so I can get on my way. Looking at your list, for example at Altai Krai, am I right to assume that Stepnoye Ozero is already correctly disambiguated for that area? when I look at what links there, I don't see any links that should be pointing to Stepnoye Ozero, Altai Krai, so assume that nothing needs doing? Sorry if I am missing something here, but would be good if you could outline an example where there are conflicts under points 2 and 3 of Wikipedia:NC:CITY#Russia or other actions that would need to be done repeatedly so I know exactly what to do and don't go and make a raft of changes incorrectly or miss a lot of stuff that needs doing! For example am in right in thinking that Kursk Oblast you have a entry for Tetkino, and that this should correctly be disambiguated to Tetkino, Kursk Oblast. Looking at the administravtive divisions article, Tetkino is referred to simply as Tyotkino andd so would need changing (even ignoring the "e" issue). Are there any other things I should be looking out for other than ensuring the administrative divisions pages point to the right place for UTSs and that nothing links to a "unique" link, when it should be pointing to a disambiguated link? Fenix down (talk) 16:47, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes, some of the included entries would already have been taken care of and can simply be skipped (Stepnoye Ozero is one of them). You might still want to double-check the backlinks as new ones appear constantly, but other than that, if you see a link that's properly disambiguated and there is a well-developed set index to go with it, then it should most likely be OK.
The entries with a conflict under bullets 2 and 3 of WP:NC:CITY#Russia would be any entries where the link in the right column does not lead to a proper target. "Tokur" in Amur Oblast is one such example—while there are no other places in Russia with such a name, there is a village in India and a pigeon breed (and perhaps other things—uncovering more such entries is the fun part!). There is a link to "Tokur, Russia" on the Tokur dab, but since I added it in 2009, there is no record of it in the database (the database did not have any means to track exceptions until 2013), which is why the script linked to the dab page. There might also be quirky cases like "Pogar", which the script did not catch, even though there is a Pogar, Russia set index in place. The reason is that the names are only identical in transliteration; in Russian, one is "Погарь" and the other—"Погар". Luckily, this does not happen very often, but when it does, it can only be caught manually.
Tetkino/Tyotkino is another good example of little quirky things driving the neat algorithms bonkers :) Whenever I have a toponym which may be spelled with either "е" or "ё", I usually collect all entries on a set index titled using the "e" spelling (unless all entries are known to be using "ё", such as on Chepelyovo). So, for this, we'd have a Tetkino set index with two entries: one to Tyotkino, Kursk Oblast (because I know for a fact it's spelled with a "ё") and the other one to Tetkino, Tver Oblast (because I have no idea whether it's supposed to be "е" or "ё"). "Tyotkino", of course, would have to be a redirect to "Tetkino". See Grinevo for a similar example. As you see, much would depend on what other entries should like and how many of them there are. Whenever you stumble upon a situation where having a set index would be beneficial, please feel free to drop a note on my talk page. I can create those pages literally in seconds, regardless of the number of entries they contain.
I'm sure you'll run into other weird situations as you go through the list; I'll be happy to help with specifics if you run into any difficulties. Or, simply use your best judgement. These don't have to be 100% perfect in all aspects. As long as the UTS links lead to proper locations, all is well. The rest will be dealt with on later stages. Note also that for some situations there are alternate ways of dealing with problems, all of which might be equally acceptable. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); June 9, 2014; 17:21 (UTC)

Highway-89 Stewardship Team

This page should not be speedily deleted because...

The Highway-89 Stewardship Team is a model for effective research, education and mitigation in a cooperative, collaborative, cross-agency environment. This group is seriously pushing the envelope and creating a new paradigm. The Team is a consortium of international, fed, state and local agencies as well as NGOs and universities.

Highway-89 between Sierraville and Truckee is an informal Experimental Highway of CalTrans...the first and only one. Thanks to 45 years of effort by the Sierraville road crew, it contains the best data set for road kill to be found anywhere in the world. This data is combined with extensive camera trap data, and radio-collar tracking of the Loyalton deer herd to study herd movements and influence the siting and design of mitigation structures.

A road ecology workshop is held annually at Sagehen Creek Field Station to train land managers to better manage animal vehicle collisions. The Team has provided opportunities for Student and Citizen Science, including trackplate data collection, and biological monitoring through iNaturalist. This wikipedia entry was created to support these education, research and outreach efforts. --Xeliff — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xeliff (talkcontribs) 21:24, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

I removed your prod for Mohd Syukur Saidin. As far as I can see, he had several appearances in the Premier League for Sime Darby F.C. in 2011. Perhaps I'm mising something ... Nfitz (talk) 22:07, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

@Nfitz: What you are missing, as far as I can tell from the soccerway link is that he has only played in the premier league, not the super league. According to WP:FPL only the Malaysia super league is fully professional. Looks like this should go to Afd but would be good if you could confirm whether I have made a mistake before I do. Fenix down (talk) 06:42, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Good grief ... Premier League is the second divison! Hmm, but the team is now in the Super League ... oh hang on. Isn't Soccerway saying he's had 3 goals in recent weeks in the Super League? [2] - I'm not 100% sure about that, but I think that's what it's saying ... though I'd want to check another source ... and I'm just off to bed. Nfitz (talk) 04:02, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
I know, why would the premier division not be the top league! It does seem to say that he has scored 3 goals despite not having a minute of plaaying time! Fenix down (talk) 07:18, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
This article [3] indicates he scored a goal in a game recently for Sime Darby F.C.. The soccerway data must be incomplete. Nfitz (talk) 03:57, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, that looks great to me. Fenix down (talk) 09:00, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

It wasn't a link to a photo, it was a link to an article on the currently arguably biggest ultras site in the world. I've added some references now to newspapers (Jakarta Post) and other websites. Please tell me what, specifically, in the article is a copyright violation. There is paraphrasing, all of which is cited to her website bio. There are very few ways to say "she was born in Miami," "her mother was French," or "she won the competition" without sounding like the original source. PaulCHebert (talk) 13:32, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

There is a link in the box at the top of the article where a bot identified a potential copyright infringement. I note you have made some changes, and perhaps this makes a significant difference, so do feel free to click the button in the box at the top of the article and contest the deletion. I agree that there are certain elements where it is difficult to differ from a source, but perhaps that is indicative of the fact that there aren't that many sources out there and so potentially there are questions over WP:GNG. I would look to find a variety of sources to build an article rather than just one or two. Fenix down (talk) 13:38, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
