Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Indocetus, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Punjab Province (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

IP hopping, block evading contributor from Indonesia

36.74.192.0/19: They have not used this range since August 16, and there's useful edits coming from that range. 36.74.184.0/21: blocked for one week. 125.164.0.0/18 is already blocked; the block wears off tomorrow. The top 4 edited articles/category are already semi-protected. I have also today protected Category:Prehistoric canines, Stereotypes of animals, List of catgirls, and List of fictional marsupials. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:33, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

OK, thanks a lot. Every small obstacle counts. In the end, I suppose, persistent reverting is the only thing that works. --Fama Clamosa (talk) 15:51, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Yes, and it actually does work, so please be patient. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:37, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Some More Wiki-Watercooler Gossip

It looks like that Indonesian IP tries very hard to come up with the most stupidest ideas to make a category out of, like "prehistoric aquatic organisms"? Either way, thanks for helping stem the latest outbreak.--Mr Fink (talk) 15:55, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, and yes, I can see no indications (1) it cares whether those edits are reverted or not or (2) that there is a reason to AGF (after all). It's all so silly, random, and immature. All there is to it is reverting I suppose. --Fama Clamosa (talk) 16:06, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

You can just tag it as {{db-housekeeping}} since you made it by mistake and it's uncontroversial. I've done this for you. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 20:36, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

OK, thanks. Yet another template in my vocabulary then. :) --01:27, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Clarification tag referred to "Mysticeti". Suggest link and/or explain. Kind regards, Lesion (talk) 00:05, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Mysticeti redirects to Baleen whale, and the latter is mentioning Mysticeti and explaining the word's etymology. I'm not sure I understand the problem. --Fama Clamosa (talk) 03:20, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Size comparison image on baleen whale page

Hi. The term "great whale" includes the sperm whale, not just baleen whales. It also traditionally excludes the two species of minke whale. There also appears to be a mistake in the labeling. Minke whales (labeled blue) don't get that size. It should be labeled a Bryde's whale. SHFW70 (talk) 19:00, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for correcting my English. Baleen whales are often referred to as the "great whales". My caption didn't say this is correct, just that it is common. The illustration is not mine, I simply found it on Commons. A assume your are correct and maybe it should be removed and replaced. (P.S. Don't miss my comment on Talk:Baleen whale#Life history.) --Fama Clamosa (talk) 16:24, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Publisher vs work field in citations

Hello, thanks very much for the reference you added to Brenda Fassie. However, the work field is better than the publisher field for newspapers like The Independent, because the former field puts the newspaper title in italics (which is the standard formatting in this situation). I only discovered this minor issue relatively recently myself. Graham87 03:39, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for pointers, Graham. I'll try to remember it. --Fama Clamosa (talk) 07:49, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Recent revert on Aquatic Ape Hypothesis

It's just personal retribution against me, ain't it? Blah, whatever.

So you are from Belgium? --Fama Clamosa (talk) 18:59, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
Ha, no such luck, no.--CEngelbrecht (talk) 19:36, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
I saw it necessary to report you for vandalism against Aquatic Ape Hypothesis. You may dislike the topic and feel it's off the rockers, but you can't let personal distaste trash an entire Wiki article. If this idea is wrong, a balanced presentation, including various imagery, will only support that at length.--CEngelbrecht (talk) 18:54, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Aquatic Ape Hypothesis

I can only assume from this contentious claim that you think you have wider consensus than might be found on the subject's talk page to arbitrarily remove illustrative pictures and text. Can you point me to that "community consensus on a wider scale" which endorses your deletions? If you fail to do so, I will reinstate the edits you have removed, and hope you will take the time to argue for the deletions you wish to propose. Alfietucker (talk) 18:31, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Even to an AAH advocate, it should be apparent that AAH is FRINGE. Notwithstanding all the ARGUE or the CONSENSUS on that page, it should be apparent to you that there is no general acceptance of AAH. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and should describe AAH as FRINGE. Any "alternative views", if mentioned, should be described as FRINGE too. --Fama Clamosa (talk) 19:03, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Even allowing that AAH is "fringe", it is the encyclopaedia's job to present the arguments of that hypothesis (indeed, to give a reasonably full exposition of its subject), and then debunk them. What you appear to be doing, on the contrary, is deleting material without discussion. btw WP:POV, which I assume you are referring to in this edit comment, applies to comments or slants provided by the WP editor, not to published opinion which is duly credited as was the case of the text you deleted without discussion. Will you now be so good as to provide the "community consensus on a wider scale" you claim you have? Alfietucker (talk) 19:11, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
There is no need for a "community consensus" and it is certainly not "the job" of Wikipedia to "present arguments". AAH is FRINGE and it should be described as such. And that is it. Please stop POV-pushing Wikipedia. A place anyone can edit is not your venue. --Fama Clamosa (talk) 19:23, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
"A place anyone can edit is not your venue." With due respect, you appear not only to misunderstand Wikipedia policies, but even its ethos - let alone to ignore the fact that I have been editing here since 2006 and, I dare say, have earned considerable respect for my work here. Further, I can only assume from your latest reply that your claim that you have "community consensus" is itself based on an assumption - you are very welcome to put it to the test if you so wish; either that, or come to the talk page as I have previously suggested. Alfietucker (talk) 19:34, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
"Community consensus" again? Have you been pushing a POV since 2006? Should I waste the rest of my life arguing on "that" talk page? Just accept that AAH is FRINGE and should be described as such. --Fama Clamosa (talk) 19:48, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
It was you - not I - who first linked to this policy with your edit comment here: if you don't like what it says, I suggest you read the policies you link to more carefully. Alfietucker (talk) 19:56, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Typo?

It looks as though a copying error may have crept into your Huxley quote. Are you sure he said "I myself always learned sometimes by lecturing" rather than "learned something"? Cheers from a lecturer who always learned something, Awien (talk) 13:42, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for asking.
That's the quote as I found it. I found it in Primate Anatomy (Preface page xiii, pdf page 14). Also note the sic in the quote. Fama Clamosa (talk) 16:02, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Not sure if this will come through, but the original was indeed "learned something", as can be seen in the facsimile:
https://archive.org/details/a588317300huxluoft
Awien (talk) 17:30, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes, it came through - p. vii Awien (talk) 17:37, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
OK, I stand corrected. Again, thank you. Fama Clamosa (talk) 03:28, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
Not your fault the quotation had got messed up before it reached you. But now it's fixed, the sic can go.
(Also, just for the record, whoever added that sic in the first place put it in the wrong place - it should come right after the incorrect word that one is quoting correctly from the source. And if we're going to be totally perfectionistic, there actually is a small hiccup in Huxley's syntax: the to at the beginning of the second sentence, "and to those . . . ", shouldn't be there. That's the sort of trivial slip that it's considered appropriate to correct without comment, rather than call attention to with a sic).
Your friendly neighbourhood pedant, Awien (talk) 12:13, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
Again, thank you for pointing all this out. When I think about it, it's a bit embarrassing to (1) invite people to use inline citations ("Please...") and (2) fail to deliver that on the same page. :P Fama Clamosa (talk) 16:17, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

AAH rewrite tag

Hi, as you put a rewrite tag on the AAH article, would like to hear from you which elements need to be improved. To me, except a few points of disagreement (e.g. lede image which has been removed), the balance and the reliability of the current article are OK -- short sections for Thesis and History, a detailed Reception acknowledging its overwhelming rejection / silence, and a Further Research showing independent developments, all contents reviewed by secondary RS. ChakAzul (talk) 10:36, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Yes, I think we agree on most points. My tag is probably redundant as, by now, most POV-pushers are gone and you are actually cleaning-up the page. In my view, Wikipedia should describe AAH as controversial but still not pseudo-science. --Fama Clamosa (talk) 17:15, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Sorry to complain, but the edits you reinstated were pov. The editor removed material using academic sources calling them pov. For instance the author of one of the books was Ian Shaw (Egyptologist) writing in a Cambridge University Press book still used several times in the article. In fact they wiped out the entire Arabian Peninsula section. I think I probably added quite a bit of that and I avoid fringe like the plague. This seems to be pov editor. See[3] and [4] - note the focus on the Horn of Africa. Any chance of self-reverting? I really don't want to get into an edit-war. Doug Weller talk 12:46, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

unexplained removal of sourced content

Why do you follow my edits and remove all the content without any explanation? 14.36.226.183 (talk) 17:55, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Tomahawk (missile) does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! • Whatever your issues with the IP users are, you need to use clear edit summaries if you believe your reverts are justified. If you do not, or if your reasons are not justified, you are risking being blocked for disruptive editing. Also, you shouldn't use rollbacks to make reverts that are not clearly vandalism without using edit summaries. That can be grounds for losing your rollbacks permission. - BilCat (talk) 18:36, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Disruptive editing

If you have a good reason to undo an edit, you state that reason in the edit summary. If you do not have a good reason, then you don't undo the edit. 176.35.218.33 (talk) 09:15, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
