Novels WikiProject Newsletter August 2006

The Novels WikiProject Newsletter
Issue III - August 2006
Project news
  • In the northern hemisphere this is traditionally the season for holiday's - if you are due for one - enjoy the rest.
  • Quiet work is going on trying to improve the coverage of Infoboxes in Novel articles and adding vital information to those Infoboxes. Those that make the most contribution do get noticed!
  • We now have a Collaboration of the Month (see below).
  • Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction) should be looked at. It was adopted recently, but discussion is still going.
Member News
  • The project has currently 114 members, 10 joined since the last newsletter in early July 2006.

Collaboration of the Month
  • Announcing our new Collaboration of the Month which for the month of August is The Mystery of the Yellow Room. This is our first and has already been worked on seeing substantial change (and hopefully improvement). Please get involved and submit other novel titles for future collaborations. If this is successful we can really improve these articles and we may increase the frequency of the title change.
Current debates
  • New book related notability proposals are to be seen at Wikipedia:Notability (books), if you have not seen these do take a look. The debate and level of change has slowed so thi may mean that a concensus is near!
  • Discussion about adding two new fields, Film adaptation and Based on film, to the {{Infobox_Book}} template is going on in the WP:BOOKS talk page.

RfA Standards

Um, False Prophet, is there some reason you reverted back my changes to my RfA Standards, or was this a simple error? Thε Halo Θ 00:10, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

That's quite alright, I put it back up ;) If there's anything I can help you with in the future, please, don't hesitate to contact me. Yours, Thε Halo Θ 11:20, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

WoW comment

Yeah it may have been a little premature... maybe 2 or 3 months ago... I wasn't going to leave because of the just wait or more contribs or even the pathetic didn't answer the questions as good as he should (why is that a reason to oppose?). I left because of the We might be admining WoW here comment. And then some people obviously believed it because the last vote on my RfA was oppose per all above. GangstaEB help me improve! 11:53, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Seau - Pats Roster

I understand all the jazz about only posting 'official' information, and am glad to see Seau officially labeled 55 on the template now, but I do take offense at being told my edits 'compromise the integrity of pages'. The NFL official team sites are notoriously slow to update when compared to breaking-news blogs, especially one with the integrity of Mike Reiss'. I believe it fair to invoke Wikipedia standards and rules, which you did earnestly and in truth, but to invoke 'the integrity of pages' was a low blow, and a mark of arrogance. 24.60.119.35 03:03, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

RfAery

I don't entirely understand the comment on the RfA subpage. Is this for me as I am now, or would this (If passed) "kick in" when I confirmably registered. 68.39.174.238 01:47, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

"dismissed" as in, voted down, or what? 68.39.174.238 02:49, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
From what I've heard, its impossible to give an IP powers without granting them to all IPs, so I'm not sure how a this would work... wait untill the software caught up with it? 68.39.174.238 03:15, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
