January 2024

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Viewmont Viking. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the main body of an article. Generally, any relevant external links should be listed in an "External links" section at the end of the article and meet the external links guidelines. Links within the body of an article should be internal Wikilinks. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. VVikingTalkEdits 14:54, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry I don't know how to message you on your talk page so I'll just send it here. You not only removed the external links but also removed THE ENTIRE LIST OF HOSPITALS ALONG WITH THE LINKS, I'm sorry but I'm just wondering how on earth you become a Wikipedia admin. ExoField (talk) 15:16, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not a Wikipedia admin - and if you want to add the hospitals back without the external links feel free to do so.--VVikingTalkEdits 15:19, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why didn't you add it back yourself? If you can bother with removing useful links that are meant to guide people why couldn't you do something simple as this? And it says on the guidelines to use common sense sometimes to override certain rules. The reason I linked external links in the body was because these hospitals don't have a wiki page, so I linked their official website. ExoField (talk) 15:22, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What you should have done is remove the links, not the entire list of hospitals. I know you're just doing your job or whatever, but you're only making it hard for other people ExoField (talk) 15:19, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And you are just making it harder by adding in spam references. We or at least I am a volunteer here, I do not get paid to edit, and I'm not going to spend my time doing what other's think I should do, especially new editors who by their own admission "The reason I linked external links in the body was because these hospitals don't have a wiki page, so I linked their official website." don't know the processes of wikipedia. Really what should happen is all hospitals that do not currently have an article should be removed from the list, unless you can guarantee it is all inclusive.--VVikingTalkEdits 15:27, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Spam references? Excuse me? They're links to *official websites* and there are thousands of wiki pages with links like these. You decided to come and remove the most useful information. Imagine someone is in an emergency and wants to look up hospitals in their area and this wiki page shows up. Thanks for your contribution and guidance ExoField (talk) 15:33, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you make personal attacks on others again, as you did at List of hospitals in Pakistan, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. JeffUK 15:35, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, sorry, lost my cool there. ExoField (talk) 15:43, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made a change to an article, King Edward Medical University, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 07:15, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thanks. ExoField (talk) 07:25, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

hey

[edit]

I noticed you have been editing some health-related articles, and I wanted to say that a bunch of us hang out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine. You're welcome to join us. It's also a good place to ask questions about finding good sources for medical content or writing style. There are also groups like Wikipedia:WikiProject Hospitals, if that sounds like a better match, but I think it's a very small group. Feel free to put any groups you're interested on your watchlist, or stop by to say hello some time.

P.S. It sounds like you might want to read about how to create a Wikipedia:Red link. Most modern hospitals qualify for a Wikipedia:Separate, stand-alone article. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:22, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ohhh, thank you so much for reaching out, I'll be sure to check all of this out! ExoField (talk) 21:35, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

List of medical schools in Pakistan
added links pointing to Swat and Nowshera
Nowshera Medical College
added a link pointing to Nowshera

Hi, thank you for the warm welcome. I was wondering if these two articles qualify: Upper Swat Canal and Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology.
I made these two articles a day before I registered for the competition.
I'd greatly appreciate your response on this.
Thanks. ExoField (talk) 16:40, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey ExoField, thanks for creating those articles! Those articles are certainly within the scope of the contest, as they are directly related to Pakistan. Please note that you would have to submit the articles through some kind of review process to be eligible for points — see the scoring page for more information. Since you only created them yesterday, you can submit them to Did you know? for about six more days; if they appear on the Main Page, you will be awarded points! I hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 17:01, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, I'll keep that in mind! I'll let you know if I have any other questions. ExoField (talk) 17:39, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, can you please review Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology again and see if it's satisfactory. Also, just the first paragraph of the History is taken from the official website.
I'm eagerly expecting a response.
Thank you. ExoField (talk) 18:35, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey ExoField, apologies for the delay — I didn't have time to get around to your question yesterday. I can see there was a bit of confusion below about that article, but it's now back in mainspace, and the close paraphrasing issue seems to have been addressed; thanks for doing that! In the future, please do not copy text directly from sources, as that is a violation of their copyright. Only small quotes may be used, and they must be attributed to their source. (An exception would be reusing text under a free license, but that has its own procedure.) In any case, these articles are still within the seven-day window to nominate them at Did you know?, which can then be claimed for points in the DCWC if your hook appears on the Main Page. Let me know if you have any other questions! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 16:31, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All right, I will keep those points in mind, thank you!
Regarding the delay, it's no problem at all, you were the event coordinator after all. ExoField (talk) 18:00, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions to Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability, it is promotional and reads like an advertisement and you may have a possible Conflict of Interest. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. — Saqib (talk I contribs) 21:55, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please resist the temptation to toss the article back into the main namespace. How about submitting it for review and letting someone else be the judge?Saqib (talk I contribs) 22:07, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, I understand. ExoField (talk) 22:36, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, regarding the first point, I think eight references, with seven being secondary references are more than enough to establish notability? I'll work on it more however.
Second point, I think there's just one sentence in the entire article which sounds potentially promotional (and it was taken from a primary source), will be fixed soon.
Regarding the conflict of interest, I think you've misjudged the situation, I do not receive any personal benefit from adding this article to the mainspace, nor am I related in any way with this article. I simply looked up "Universities in Pakistan" and saw this on the list, without a page, then did some research and found it to be a much more significant institution compared to many others which have a Wikipedia page.
And finally, this article has been reviewed twice before. Thank you for reading. ExoField (talk) 22:35, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
reviewed twice before? But I don't see that!Saqib (talk I contribs) 23:03, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I’m not sure what it is, but you need to submit it for review. Hopefully, you can see the Submit the draft for review button.Saqib (talk I contribs) 11:21, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.

The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on its talk page. Most new articles start out as Stub-Class or Start-Class and then attain higher grades as they develop over time. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

Since you have made at least 10 edits over more than four days, you can now create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for creation if you prefer.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation.

If you would like to help us improve this process, please consider leaving us some feedback.

Thanks again, and happy editing!

DCWC September update

[edit]

The Developing Countries WikiContest has now been running for two months, and we've seen tremendous improvement in the encyclopedic coverage of several underrepresented areas from a wide range of editors! DCWC closing update

[edit]

The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points, Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place Thebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions; Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place Tuvalu BeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months, Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Generalissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!

In addition to his spot in the top three, Tuvalu BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)! India Magentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.

The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Ixtal (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs).
