[edit]Thanks for uploading File:IanTBensonCanada.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

[edit]Thank you for uploading File:IanTBensonCanada.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:22, 26 February 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Image licenses
[edit]Ewoll, Wikipedia only accepts photos where the copyright holder has explicitly granted a license under an acceptable free content license, such as the GNU Free Documentation License or the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license. Apart from such a declaration on the copyright holder's part, there is no tag to choose because no such license exists. Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission has instructions on requesting copyright permission and Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries has a letter that the copyright holder can use to provide us with the necessary permission. Correction Made: Unsure how to delete originally uploaded file
[edit]Thank you for the information and advice. I have uploaded another photograph which is under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license. I am however unsure how to delete the file that I originally uploaded. I am aware that it will be deleted automatically, but I would prefer to remove it myself if this is possible before the time. It does not violate copyright, but is not in alignment with current Wikipedia:Media policy. (Ewooll (talk) 05:40, 1 March 2011 (UTC))

[edit]As a talk page stalker, I saw your note on Orange Mike's talk page. I'm sorry to see that nobody has given you a "Welcome paragraph", so I will add a standard one just below which will give you some useful links. But Orange Mike's message is exactly right - plunge in and do things. You will make mistakes, but don't worry - that's how one learns. There is a useful guide at WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle to how Wikipedia works - if you see a change you think will improve the encyclopedia, be BOLD and make it. I like the similarities to academic writing, but it is the inner workings of the system that I find challenging. This will be an interesting journey. How do I get an article reviewed?
[edit]Hi I recently finished editing my first article. The original article was graded as "start class". I have done significant revision to the article and would like it to be looked at again in terms of grading. How do I do this? As it's a biography, look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Assessment, where there is a section "Requesting an assessment." Add it to the bottom of that list. New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
[edit]Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
[edit]Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
