You tagged the article Hippolyte Mège-Mouriés for speedy delete with {{db-bio}}. It seems to me that the article pretty clearly does asset significance or importance, in effect it says that this guy is credited with inventing margarine. Now this may be inaccurate, i don't know, but if it is accurate, it is surely significant. See my comments on Talk:Hippolyte Mège-Mouriés. Why did you think this article ought to be speedy-deleted? Perhaps i can explain the speedy deletion criteria to you a bit if you are finding them confusing? DES (talk) 22:48, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
You said "A good website or article states references, a bad article usually doesn't list references. A downside of Wikipedia is that people can get away with no references. We can assume that it is inaccurate because there is no references because the person didn't want to list references that weren't true (which I believe is a crime to write false references). You can disagree with me but, I don't believe this man is very notable."
- You are correct that a good article lists references. But failing to list references means that that should be added, not that the article should be speedy-deleted. (When i said "I don't know, I merely meant I hadn't yet tried to verify the claims. The person may not be very notable, but assuming that the facts stated are accurate, he is notable enough not to be speedy dueled. You can take this through the regular process at WP:AFD if you like.
- By the way, you need to fix your signature, it is linking to Etten Joe, when it should link to User:Etten Joe or User talk:Etten Joe or both. DES (talk) 23:07, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- WP:MFD and its tempalte {{md1}} are for deelting pages in the user or wikipedia namespace. For articles, pages in the main namespace, use articles for deletion. This can be confusing, but you will learn your way around in reasonable time. DES (talk) 23:11, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
nominating an article for deletion
[edit]1. Go to the page you want to delete. Edit it. Add the {{subst:afd1}} tag at the top of the page.
2. Include in the edit summary the phrase: nominated for deletion: see [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName]] Replace PageName with the title (name) of the article.
3. click Save
4. The resulting AfD box at the top of the article should contain a link to "Preloaded debate" in the AfD page. Click that link to open the article's deletion discussion page. Some preloaded text and some instructions will appear.
5. Replace the U in "cat=U" with the proepr category from the list.
6. Add the reason or reasons why you think the articel should be delted after "reason equals.
7. sign with four tildes (~~~~) Fix your signature first.
