I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Anne Manne, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. The article Shane Flanagan has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Rettetast (talk) 12:55, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hi Rettetast thanks for pointing this out, I added some background citations so hopefully this will remain. best wishes, Ethel. Ethel the aardvark (talk) 06:10, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

Hello, Ethel. I'm glad you're diving into editing, but please do ensure that what you add is cited using reliable sources like newspapers, published books, and magazines, especially for information about living people. Fences&Windows 16:21, 16 July 2010 (UTC) ok thanks FEnces, have been doing tiny bits in my spare time or as i discover something during my work & learning the ropes slowly! .. advice appreciated Ethel the aardvark (talk) 02:26, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Australian Centre for Independent Journalism requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Drdisque (talk) 05:53, 30 August 2010 (UTC) hi there dr disque, i have added some information in the subject talk page for this article which I hope explains my reason for adding this article. I appreciate any advice meanwhile. best wishes ethel Ethel the aardvark (talk) 06:14, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Dls cronulla crest.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Dls cronulla crest.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 13:15, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for pointing this out, I have added fair use rationale to the file now, hope this is sufficient. Ethel the aardvark (talk) 18:03, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Bianca Nogrady, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://au.linkedin.com/in/biancanogrady.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:35, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note on this article about an Australian journalist. One sentence duplicated the list of publications that she wrote for - hardly plagiarism, however this has now been reworded to avoid problems with bot search in future. The article is a stub and needs further updating.

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Bianca Nogrady, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://au.linkedin.com/in/biancanogrady, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Bianca Nogrady saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! VernoWhitney (talk) 15:32, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While not a word-for-word copy, the article remains largely a close paraphrase and needs verifiable permission from the copyright holder or rewritten in your own words. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:32, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As an academic, I've always been meticulous about avoiding copying anyone else's material. Because this was a stub article quickly written I included background info of a list of publications from this journalists own source. While in retrospect I should have used third party sources rather than the subjects own material so that content was verifiable, I'm really shocked that duplication of a list of publications was considered plagiarism and have rewritten the content as much as possible. I hope this is now acceptable and that the notice can be removed. Ethel the aardvark (talk) 23:54, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Verno, I see the Copyvio notice has been removed. Ethel the aardvark (talk) 11:11, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! It appears as though you have been directly adding stub categories to articles. Stub categories should only ever be added by templates, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. These templates automatically add any relevant stub categories. Adding the category directly creates problems if there is a need at some later date to change stub category names or to split stub categories. Using stub templates is also recommended as they add prompting messages to editors reading stub articles. Your work in sorting these stub articles is very useful, but it would be even more useful and greatly appreciated if you could use stub templates to do so! (This message is a boilerplate, left here as a courtesy by Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting, and should not be considered personal in nature.) Grutness...wha? 04:11, 31 October 2010 (UTC)][reply]

Thanks Grutness! I have had a look at the page & sample templates - hopefully I got the last one correct, please let me know if there is anything else I should do with stubs.Ethel the aardvark (talk) 01:06, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good! BTW, the list of stub templates is long and convoluted, so don't worry too much if you use a "lower grade" template rather than hunting for exactly the right one (e.g., the less finely-scoped {{Australia-bio-stub}}). As long as it's within the tree of stub categories fairly close to where it's supposed to be it'll be eventually sorted into the right place. Keep up the good work :) Grutness...wha? 04:36, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation

[edit]

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Ginger Gorman moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Ginger Gorman, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
