Moved article to your userspace

[edit]

Hi! I moved the article for WrappedHersheys.com to User:Eromansky/WrappedHersheys.com. The issues stated for the deletion was that the article sounded promotional and there was no notability established for the company. I thought I'd explain why this is so.

As far as promotion goes, it doesn't have to be along the lines of "this company is the greatest thing since sliced bread and will cure cancer". Things can come across as promotional even without that. Part of this is because the article reads more like it's an outline for a personal paper/essay or a journal entry rather than reading very encyclopedic. If this was the only reason up on the speedy, I'd probably have declined it because while it does come across as something you'd read on a website for the company, it isn't so overly so that I'd push the "delete" button right away. It looks like for the most part you dealt with the worst of it, although it still needs some work.

The bigger thing that pushed the envelope is that there's no notability established. Simply being in existence isn't enough, nor is the company being moderately or overwhelmingly successful. All that success means is that it's more likely that the company would be covered in reliable sources. I'll be honest and say that showing notability for corporations per WP:CORP is quite possibly one of the hardest things to do, as many businesses only really get coverage when they're doing some of the standard business stuff such as starting up, announcing the opening of a new store, and such- which is pretty much stuff that you can't really use to show notability. Articles about a company's start up are helpful, but for companies that doesn't show a depth of coverage in the long run to show it's notable.

As far as sources go, the ones currently on the article can't be used for notability purposes. The first one is a press release, which is released through the company itself. No matter where a PR is released, whether it's on CNN or on a PR website, it's still considered to be a WP:PRIMARY source and isn't considered to be able to show notability. In general, primary sources are frowned upon as sources, especially press releases. Where the second source flounders is that it doesn't actually mention the website "WrappedHersheys.com" at all. It mentions the founder, but it never expressly mentions the website you're trying to discuss in this article. We can't really keep articles on one source unless that source is claiming something along the lines of the company winning the Nobel Prize (ie, something so overwhelmingly notable that it'd keep on that basis alone), so this wouldn't be enough to keep an article even if it did mention and focus solely on the company.

That's also another thing about the source. While it mentions Carson relatively much, the article isn't actually about the company. It's about soldiers overseas getting chocolate. If this were to come up for deletion via a deletion discussion, someone could say that this source isn't really usable as far as establishing notability goes. It's the type of source I'd generally try to avoid using because it's not really a good solid source. It's something I might use to sort of embellish an article ala putting a cherry on top of a sundae, but I wouldn't really ever feel comfortable claiming notability with a source like this. It's too easily argued against as it being a weak source.

Now all that aside, I did look for sources and couldn't find much that wasn't a press release, trivial mention, or an otherwise unusable source. You'll still be able to work on this in your userspace, but before you move it into the mainspace you'll have to establish notability first. I'll be honest when I say that when I looked for sources, I couldn't really find anything under the website name or its original name. Not enough to show notability, in any case. Even so, this userspace entry will be slightly easier to edit, as it can't be deleted as easily as it would be if it was in the mainspace. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 17:47, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I undid your move of this article to the userspace, as the userspace you sent it to (User:WrappedHersheys.com) doesn't actually exist. The article may now be found at User:Eromansky/Sandbox. Please be mindful of the comments at the deletion debate and in the section by Tokyogirl on this page. Thanks. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 20:49, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
