DYK for Walter Kerr Theatre

On 1 March 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Walter Kerr Theatre, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that before being restored as a Broadway theater, the Ritz Theatre was used as a television studio, pornographic theater, vaudeville house, children's theater, and poster warehouse? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Walter Kerr Theatre. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Walter Kerr Theatre), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Conspiracy theories about the Singer Building

Found this article that mentions the Singer Building in an interesting way and thought you may want to add a sentence about it. Here is another source that mentions the same conspiracy theory. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 03:58, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

@Coffeeandcrumbs, thanks for the heads up. I have added that to the article. – Epicgenius (talk) 00:56, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Source review

Hoping to ask a hugely massive ginormous favor from you to do a full source review for the A and B Loop article. I can provide the links, excerpts, my library card (lol) -- whatever you need. I'm combing through the entire article now and hope to have it done by Saturday. Would you be willing to take on the task? I'd be happy to do any work for you in return. --truflip99 (talk) 22:30, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

@truflip99, unfortunately I would not be able to do it within such a short time period. I have quite a few real-life things on my plate during the next few days, so this is a particularly bad time. I could do a full review if I had a week or so, or I could do a spot check with a tighter schedule. I'd still be happy to help you go over the citations in some way though. – Epicgenius (talk) 23:54, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
I truly appreciate it! I'm asking Gog to see if we can extend the arbitrary time limit on FACs and I'm confident he'll let it slide probably. In any case, thank you so much for agreeing to take it on when you have the time. --truflip99 (talk) 19:50, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Just following up! Gog pretty much said as long as there is progress being made on the article and review, should be no problem. Are you still interested? --truflip99 (talk) 16:32, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Yeah. I may have more time over the weekend, but I can start with checking refs 1-15 from this revision. I would appreciate it if you can email me either refs 5-8 and 10-15 or the credentials to access these articles. – Epicgenius (talk) 16:44, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! I can provide my log in so you just have to click the links. How can I email you? --truflip99 (talk) 18:37, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
@Truflip99, there's a link to Special:EmailUser/Epicgenius on the sidebar of this page. – Epicgenius (talk) 19:10, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
I got your email. I will look starting tomorrow. – Epicgenius (talk) 23:49, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
  • Christmas Island AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
  • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
  • Philadelphia GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
  • United Nations Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
  • SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.
  • United Nations Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.

These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. TFA

March songs

Thank you today for Singer Building, "about a building in Lower Manhattan, New York City, that was briefly the world's tallest building and later the tallest to be demolished peacefully. It was first constructed as two low-rise buildings in the late 1890s, which were combined and expanded in the 1900s. The building had an otherwise relatively uneventful existence until 1967, when it was torn down to make way for a larger and less architecturally distinguished structure. The interior was elaborately decorated, as was the facade, and the building in its heyday would have been considered quite innovative. Unfortunately, the Singer Building just didn't have enough space for modern office demands, so it was not preserved."! Nice to know an author as soon as you see the TFA. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:46, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

On the subject of "Fivefold"

I'm doing a rewrite of Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.
My first major handful of edits begins here, but I recently sat down and started finishing the whole article a couple days ago. Question 1: does the fivefold rule mean the article has to be expanded within seven days, or that it has to be nominated for DYK within the seven days of when it achieves five times expansion?
Second question: per this revision, the article prose size (text only) is 7268 B (1211 words). Does this mean that in order to achieve fivefold I would need to make it 35000 B (6,000 words), or am I misinterpreting this somehow? I'm asking this because if I were to do so (it would also be impossible), it would be the size of my other article, Paper Mario. Panini! 🥪 15:19, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

@Panini!, Answer 1: yes, the fivefold rule means the article has to be expanded in mainspace within 7 days. (I say in mainspace because the rule can technically be circumvented by writing a draft in userspace and not relocating it to mainspace until you have an article that's long enough.)
Answer 2: Yes, that means you would have to make it 35,000 bytes. The word count isn't a factor in the fivefold expansion, but prose character count is. You would have to improve it to GA status if expansion is not possible. – Epicgenius (talk) 15:27, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for letting me know! I'm asking because I thought I could give some extra points for the WikiCup while I was at it, but I'll stick with the 35. Panini! 🥪 15:30, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Brooklyn Commons article update

Hi again, Epicgenius. Thank you for your help with the name change of the Brooklyn Commons article. There are a few more updates I would like to make to the page. To make things easier, I drafted a new version of the article at User:Tgreenidge/Brooklyn Commons Draft. In this draft I:

  1. Moved all the notable tenants from the Location section to the final section of Notable tenants
  2. Moved the first paragraph of the History section to its chronological place as the fourth paragraph of that section
  3. Inserted the 2018 purchase of the property right before the mention of the 2022 renaming
  4. Inserted some detail about cultural programming in the Brooklyn Commons Park section.

I included appropriate sourcing where relevant. With appreciation for your review of these changes and my thanks for all your help. Tgreenidge (talk) 13:24, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Thanks Tgreenidge. I will take a look at that soon. – Epicgenius (talk) 13:43, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

New York City question

I was wondering if you could help with this based on your articles. I wrote the article Lucy Feagin recently and the subject founded the Feagin School of Dramatic Art. A source I used for the Lucy Feagin article says that the school was located in the International Building (Rockefeller Center) on Fifth Ave. The Feagin School of Dramatic Art article says that it is located at 316 West 57th Street while linking to a source that says it was on Fifth Ave at the Rockefeller Center. Unless there are somehow two addresses, I'm not sure where the 316 West 57th St part came from. I wouldn't be able to answer such a question if it came up at DYK. SL93 (talk) 02:26, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

I found only one mention of that address here and here for a summer session while everything else backs up the other address. SL93 (talk) 02:50, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@SL93, that is interesting, since both addresses were correct. Originally, the Feagin School of Dramatic Art was housed at 316 West 57th, as can be seen by these sources from 1933 and 1936. However, the Feagin School moved to the International Building in the late 1930s, as can be seen in Allen, Kelcey. "Amusements: Feagin School Students Performance Friday". Women’s Wear Daily. Vol. 58, Iss. 40, (Feb 28, 1939), p. 29.Epicgenius (talk) 16:12, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I think I can make it work with those sources. The March 9, 2022 source I found completely went over that piece of history. SL93 (talk) 16:14, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

Queens Bus Redesign

I do feel like the original redesign proposal should be preserved somewhere-I just don't know where.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 18:07, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

@Kew Gardens 613, I considered preserving the old proposal as well. However, I think it may make the article too large. As it is, the article is already in Category:Pages where post-expand include size is exceeded, because there's so many templates that the reference list doesn't even show up anymore. Perhaps the page needs to be split - I'm thinking either History of bus routes in Queens or a dedicated article about the bus redesigns. Then we can include the old proposal in one of these articles. – Epicgenius (talk) 18:43, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
