Help me!

I have done an article on Microsoft Word, but am having trouble moving some photos at the end... can I upload the entire article even with the spacing of pictures not perfect, and be able to correct that in the "sandbox"? Also, should I put my full name on the sandbox title or the name of the article?

Wikipedia and Word unfortunately don't mix well. You can copy-paste the text you wrote into the sandbox and fix the layout with subsequent edits. Pictures are a much more difficult issue; those you will not be able to copy-paste at all, and their use on Wikipedia raises issues of copyright because with some exceptions explained in the non-free content criteria, Wikipedia only accepts freely licensed content. I would advise you to focus on the text for now and to leave the images for later. Regarding the title, you have three options: You can use your personal sandbox which is linked from the "Sandbox" link at the very top, you can create a new sub-page of your user page to hold the draft with a title that reflects the article title (so if your draft were about John Fakename, you could make it "User:Elisabet Stacy-Hurley/John Fakename"), or you can use the Article Wizard to create a draft whose title will be something like "Draft:John Fakename". Personally I would advise you choose either the linked sandbox or the Article Wizard because either will add a pre-loaded message box to the draft that has instructions on how to submit it for a review by an experienced editor once it's ready. Please help me with...I have placed all my footnote numbers after the appropriate sentence.... and added numbers preceding the corresponding endnotes (References) at the bottom of the article... will this be enough? or do I need to change something else? No. Very much so no. I'm trying to clean up some of the relatively minor formatting things and I'm coming across phrases like Thanks to God’s glory, he survived and painted. This is not encyclopaedic, nor is He found it soul stirring to ride into battles.... Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a best-selling biography. See WP:NPOV and WP:YFA. Please stick to facts and facts only. If it's not supported by an independent reliable source, remove it.
On the subject of references, please see WP:REFB Section 3.1 for more information on adding inline references. References should be about Blalock and should not be directly connected - how is anyone supposed to verify what's on his DA Form 2-1? The references don't have to be online, but they do have to be published somewhere (magazines, newspapers, books, etc).
Also, you list all of these images, but there aren't any. Why include "See Figure 1" if there's no Figure 1? It makes me very suspicious that you're just copying and pasting from another sources, which is not allowed; all text must be written in your own words (if these really are your own words, my apologies, but it needs to be said).
There's a lot more work to be done on this draft, but there are always editors willing to give advice. Hello Primefac....I appreciate your assistance and will try to take care of the things you suggested. I just would like to clarify with you the question you have about the images that are not there. I was told by another editor when I was just beginning to not try to insert them until my text was completed and approved. I inserted the captions to make it easier for me to find where I had planned to place them, and editors to see I have plans for images as well. I had the text and images all completed in Word, before I found out that I could not just copy and paste the entire thing. I plan on uploading my images to the Commons as soon as the text is completed. Also, these are all my words...I've been interviewing many and researching for over a year before I got to this point. I will continue working on this project until I can get it approved. I will go to the Teahouse again after I work on the footnotes as you recommend. Thank you again. I know nothing about Visual Editor. Anyway, some of your "references" are not references. They are supposed to state where you got the information. Some of them are just notes and should be in a separate category called "notes". As for the one photo I saw, there should be more of them if there is going to be a gallery, but I'm not sure you should do that. It's probably better just to do the one without a "gallery". Here's the code for a sample infobox for a person. You could include the same information for Dennis Blalock and put his photo there.

Thank you for your suggestions....I have not been able to add the infobox as you showed, but will try again later. I did change Resources to Footnotes again....will make necessary changes later also. I had managed to get two paintings in, but will add more after I find out how to add the infobox with Blalock self portrait and info. I did a quick check of the article's history, and where you say you added an info box, you did not. I'm not sure what that was about. Anyway, there are guidelines at MOS:IBX and you can have any parameters that are included, but you don't have to have them all. You can't add new parameters except by suggesting that for the infobox template, and then whoever can do that might add them if they are useful.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:47, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've not had much time the past few days to try again....""tis the season"...but will try again seriously after Christmas. I'm getting back to work on the the Dennis Blalock article ....having trouble trying to learn how to add a infobox on the right side of the contents box. I did manage to add the Fig.1 Self Portrait of Dennis on the left, , but want it on the right within the infobox. I also want to add the Born, Died, Nationality, Education, Known for, and Movement information in the box as well. I think I will be able to do that myself. But I'm using Visual Editor as I'm having trouble understanding the Wiki language. Please help me with... Adding an infobox big enough to add the image and text. I have added {{infobox artist}} to Draft:Dennis Blalock, with the parameters for birth, death, and movement, derived from the existing draft. You mentioned wanting to fill in the education parameter. That is for formal education above the secondary level, or apprenticeships,such as study under another artist, or for art schools. I didn't see any of those listed in the draft. Thank you VERY much DESiegel....and getting that infobox is a wonderful help to me....I'm hoping I can now add the remaining images myself. I think I can now, and understand the minor changes you made, except I didn't understand all the apostrophes either side of titles....? I had tried to make them in Bold text temporarily, but apparently that didn't work. But I can work around that. I want to add Blalock education and although he was primarily autodidact (everyone who got to know him agreed he was truly a genius), he did attend Univ. of Maryland when he was in the service in Zweibrucken, Germany. I will go back and add a bit about his Univ. education when he was in Germany too. Will I be able to add anything to his infobox myself? Really appreciate your help thus far. To edit the infobox in the visual editor, edit the draft and click the infobox. You should get a box that says "Template / Generated from Infobox Artist" and provides yo9iu with a button labeled "edit". Click that and you will get a form on which you can modify the content of the fields already set up, and add additional fields. Note that an infobox can display only the fields designed into it -- you cannot add additional fields oin the fly.

Oh, to draw my attention to something here, include {{U|DESiegel}} or {{ping|DESiegel}} as part of a signed comment. Those will cause me to be notified of the edit. Images

Image titles in nWikipedia article do not normally include such designations as "Fig. 1" and "Fig. 2". This is because a Wikipedia article is not a static document. Images can be added and removed at nany time, and we do not want to have to renumber the other images, and any mentions of them. Instead, images should be referred to by caption or description. For a painting, the caption should usually include the title, if the painting has a title. If the year when the work was painted is known, that should be included. A sentence such as Many students and friends believed he was a genius and ‘renaissance man’ and are determined to preserve his legacy. should be included only if there is a published source in which a specific named person expresses this opinion. That source must be cited inline directly after the sentance. Similarly, a sentence such as Those who stuck with him learned much (and appreciated his painful honesty) and found him to be, underneath it all, a really kind hearted person who truly wanted his serious students to succeed. should not be included unless a cited published reliable source says this. In general, opinions and judgements should not be expressed unless they are attributed to a specific named source, and supported by an inline citation. Quotations

A direct or indirect quotations, such as Unlike most artists who sought recognition, he believed his work would “end up where it was supposed to be” (a Taoist perspective). . or He also said he would never paint another magnolia in his life…. and he didn’t., or He said he guessed God must have decided it was not their time yet. must each be cirted to a published source in which Blalock is recorded as having said that. Forms such as Some feel that... or Some say that... should not be used. Instead name specific persons who can be cited as feeling or saying that, or a reliable secondary source that says that a group or a general consensus holds that view, such as According to Expert Smith, many critics feel that.... Verifibility

Wikipedia's verifibility policy means that all facts stated in an article must be verifible by a reader. While obvious details need not be cited to a source (see You don't need to cite that the sky is blue), most significant details should be supported by a citation to a published reliable source. This does not include unpublished eyewitness or family accounts, nor oral communications to the author of the article. Wikipedia articles must be supported by published sources that readers can, in principle, find and verify. Unencyclopedic detail

Not everything that happened to Blalock is relevant for the article, even if it can be supported by a reliable source.. For example, the exact details of his memorial services are probably not relevant.Look at articles about other artists to see the level of detail commonly used. Hello DESiegel....thank you again...sorry I'm a bit late in responding...just started making a few of the changes this afternoon....but will need to do a bit of checking about citations and quotes. I got many from published sources, some from other people and many are directly from my communications over the years with Blalock (do I need to add my name after those?). Also, I have 7 videos by two people who interviewed him over the years. I got some of my info from those, but need to review them again to be more specific. I will try to make it encyclopedic, but must tell you that J.M.W. Turner was one of his favorite artists and I thought I would use his article as somewhat of a template to go by. Of course there is no comparison in many ways, but there is a comparison in their passion for painting. I will try to gather more quotes soon (and begin adding more images). Hello again DESiegel, recently I found someone near me that said she knew about 'visual editor' and could help me install my pictures. I was very anxious to get the images in there. I went to her home and brought my images on a cd and we sat down together to get them all placed. I was delighted when she got it looking very good. Placement and sizes were what I wanted. I did not ask her to print it out for me, but planned to as soon as I got home. I was so disappointed. Apparently her Apple computer and my HP are not compatible... or her "visual editor" knowledge was not compatible with Wiki's. I thought perhaps I could make the corrections myself, but could not. I got terribly frustrated again. Seems like everything I tried to change goes back to what it had been. I've started back again... I removed the "Fig.s.", and added the single quotation marks to the titles...and have reread what you told me...and have a couple more questions. Dennis Blalock never put dates on any of his paintings...at least none that I am aware of so cannot add dates, and many of the photos were sent to me by the owners of those paintings...so the only ones I have those dates are the ones I photographed....in 2017 I think. Also, I have many testimonials sent to me that I requested from about a dozen people who knew Dennis well....and I could quote from those. Would they be acceptable? Also have a number of videos that were of Dennis being interviewed in his studio. Can I quote from those? Also, under Verifibility, you mention citation about published sources... but "does not include unpublished eyewitness or family accounts, nor oral communication to the author of the article." Hi Elisabet Stacy-Hurley, formatting does not seem to be the main issue left with the draft. Other editors seem to have expressed concerns about verifiability, and in a previous message above, you seem to have acknowledged a) a personal connection to the article subject, which leads to a noticeable conflict of interest, and b) usage of unpublished sources or oral communication, which, as you correctly found in the policy, is not acceptable for a Wikipedia article. As the question seems to be missing the actual problem, I'm marking this as "answered" for now. Hello, ToBeFree, I appreciate your response, but I think things have gotten a bit complicated. I hope you and I can get it cleared up. I had to take a break from working on this bio due to my health...but was just recently about to get back to working on it when I received an email from 'DGG' regarding the changes he had made to the bio. Upon looking at the major changes (deletions) he had made I was very surprised and tried to email him back to discuss it. However, I did not hear back from him ...either with Wiki email or talk page. And even though I did not like all the deletions, I resigned myself to accepting them except for a few sentences that had been deleted that I thought were important. and a few words added to match the footnotes that I had there. I could agree with those...but then I knew I had some more work to do on it. I had wanted to discuss all of this with him, but got tired of waiting...thought he might contact me again so that we could. Anyway, I read about what you wrote about quotations...I understand about verifibility, published sources...but I was told that verbal information from family, and verbal information told to the author (me) were permitted. Is this incorrect? Also, I want to reassure you regarding "conflict of interest". I have been working, researching and writing about Dennis simply because he should remembered. Many of the people who knew him well encouraged me to do this. I knew Dennis for over twenty years it is true, but I assure you I am doing this for no other reason. I get no pay from anyone and am not affiliated with any organizations or company. I know more about Dennis' later life than his family. Of course his wife knew more, but she died before him. That is why I stepped up to the plate to try to get this bio done (for an enclyclopedic entry on Wiki). I am sure that many years from now his many works will be known and appreciated, but it will be much harder for an author to be able to find much information about his life. I hope to be of help now. I'm sorry that you're finding so may roadblocks thrown up in the way of your getting this article published. I'm afraid I'm going to raise a few more.
This request about adding "DD Form 214" is not going to be done because your references 3-5 are to primary sources that we do not ordinary allow as references on Wikipedia.
Furthermore, you have large sections of your draft where either no source is mentioned or an unpublished source is given. Help me!

Please help me with... I was trying to move some text and lost a image of "Shadow Fire" that was illustrating that text....Koi (Japanese carp) hobbiest. It was to the right of that title. I have tried to find the picture that was there, but cannot find it again. Please help me get it back. I am trying to improve my article on Dennis Blalock...by deleting the "fluff that I am told there was too much of. I would also appreciate any suggestions as to what else I should do. Thank you.
