Mseilha fort

Hi Eli, the info comes from the panels that are scattered throughout the site and placed after the renovation undertaken a few years ago. I believe they can be credited to the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture. I remember reading the AUB scholars had a hand in it but I can't find a confirmation of that. I also have several nice high rez pictures of the site, but I don't know how to add a gallery to the article. Also, the panels refer to the site as Mussaylha not Mseilha, though I'm not sure how to modify that Artephius (talk) 22:57, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

I'm Lebanese but I live in the US. I visited the fort two years ago. It's fairly impressive in terms of its location and quite uncommon. Also, about writing in Arabic, of course it is up to you if you want to contribute or not, but there is a bit of barrier, at first, in writing in Arabic. When I saw you editing in English, I could see that you were very quick and knew lots of shortcuts, because you are use to it. Where as when you move into the Arabic version, you may end up feeling like a noob, which can be frustrating. Anyway my point is, after a short period, you will find a joy in writing in Arabic, it is hard to explain why, but thats my experience anyway. Paul Bedson

I realise that he as a hard worker on articles to do with Lebanon, but he was not blocked by pro-Christian and anti-Lebanese editors, and his sock puppetry (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Paul Bedson/Archive is completely unacceptable, as is his threat to continue to create socks unless he is unblocked. Please understand that no editor may edit on behalf of a banned or blocked editor (and he's both) or ask them to editor for them. I have not suggested, implied or even thought about editing for Paul and I do not endorse his use of sockpuppets either. Paul's contributions and knowledge in the area of middle eastern archaeology are not matched by any current editor's. The problem with Paul is that he was too passionate and he spent a lot of time and effort trying to prove his _often unacceptable_ POV. I found the judgement over Paul very swift and hasty, some people are hard to convince and I think he should've been given more room to prove his good will.

Doug, i believe in second chances, and I wholeheartedly believe in people's good will and I just hoped that Paul's passion could've been channeled. People grow tired from bickering eventually and I think Paul would've complied... with some patience from fellow editors. I have noticed that Paul was using original research a long time ago, and I stopped following what was happening here because i got busy so please excuse me for jumping in in defense of Paul.

I hope none of the parties involved in edit warring with Paul take my empathy for him as a personal offence; i know firsthand how hard it is to deal with people trying to push their POVs.Eli+ 12:12, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks very much for this good reply and I didn't think you'd be editing on his behalf - I post like that as I don't want anyone ever blocked for not understanding something that they would have avoided if they understood it. Paul did have a number of chances - a lot of us worked with him over a considerable period of time. And his sock puppetry the first time he was blocked for sock puppetry has no excuse, let alone his continued sock puppetry and statement that he will continue to sock puppet unless unblocked. You wrote that this was published in Beirut in 1920, but you didn't provide any information on how to verify this. Could you add that information? If it was first published in the indicated book from 1999, then the copyright expires in the United States on 1 January 2048 (or 70 years after the death of the photographer if that is later and the photographer is identified) per Commons:COM:HIRTLE. --Stefan2 (talk) 07:58, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

I would have loved to take fresh pics to show the current state of the expanded mansion but it is impossible to do so since it has become the French embassy and taking images is not allowed for security reasons. As a final greeting to you, I realized Rony Seikaly, the most famous Lebanese-American basketball player had no page in Arabic Wikipedia. I had attended him playing in Beirut with the Lebanese national side during the time of Elie Mechantaf, Fady el Khatib and Ghazy Boustani. But until today, no article on him... I have added that today. You never knew Fady Maalouf... And Seikaly being into music... LOL Now that's proof Wikipedia does fabulous job in surprising people. The music section of Rony Seikaly in English (which I developed entirely from scratch) is an eye opener. To add more basketball content to Arabic Wikipedia, immediately after Seikaly, I added a page for the player Alaa Abdelnabi, an Egyptian American player that fascinated me in Duke and went on to play in Portland Trail Blazers and Celtics, amongst others. The law school of Beirut was a center for the study of Roman law in classical antiquity located in Beirut. It flourished under the patronage of the Roman emperors and functioned as the Roman Empire's preeminent center of jurisprudence until its destruction in 551 CE. The earliest written mention of the school dates to 239 CE, when its reputation had already been established. The school attracted young, affluent Roman citizens, and its professors made major contributions to the Codex of Justinian. The school achieved such wide recognition throughout the Empire that Beirut was known as the "Mother of Laws". Beirut was one of the few schools allowed to continue teaching jurisprudence when Byzantine emperor Justinian I (pictured) shut down other provincial law schools. The school's facilities were destroyed in the aftermath of a massive earthquake that hit the Phoenician coastline. It was moved to Sidon but did not survive the Arab conquest of 635 CE. Ancient texts attest that the school was located next to the ancient Anastasis church, vestiges of which lie beneath the Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Beirut's historic center.
