Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

You are not permitted to make any edits to any page regarding the Israeli-Arab/Palestinian conflict until you have 500 edits. 331dot (talk) 15:41, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please introduce yourself before speaking, even if you are an automated response generated by someone or something ? Apart from this, why do I have to edit 500 wikipedia pages in order to be able to edit one particular page in which informations are clearly and obviously and non-spontaneously wrong and misleading ? Hi, I am 331dot, a human.(though I did post the above pre-written notice). The Arbitration Committee has designated the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to be a contentious topic, and imposed the requirement to be extended-confirmed in order to edit about it, as a way of ensuring that editors have adequate knowledge of our policies and are able to be civil when discussing edits about that topic. I'm sure that you can understand that there are strong feelings on each side of this topic, and this was put in place to prevent disruption to this project and ensure a collaborative environment. 331dot (talk) 16:04, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, you don't have to have edited 500 individual articles or pages, only have 500 edits. 331dot (talk) 16:06, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is good to know that I am talking to a human not a robot, despite your interactions being suspiciously very quick and more robot-like rather than human. Wikipedia used to be a valuable space for knowledge, and I am personally regretting using it as a propaganda platform for colonialism sympathy. I still do not know why I am receiving the clarification about the number of edits required for being a trusted wikipedia member by you, M. 331dot and not from a wikipedia bot. Discussing with you is a source of uneasiness and numerous worries. I hope I will not have to talk with you once more. Elhoucine Hadden (talk) 16:14, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry to hear that, it's not my intention to cause you worry. I made the notification after you posted to Talk:Israel. You don't need to respond to me further. I extend my best wishes to you nevertheless. 331dot (talk) 17:57, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
